Chapter 205 Hurling Rotten Eggs at You

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

Summer was startled. Just then, the bodyguards came to her rescue, blocking out the journalists. “We are not giving any interviews.”
Tim got out of the car and escorted Summer into the Jarretts’ residence. While going in, Summer could not help glancing back.
Despite being held back by the tall bodyguards, the overzealous journalists kept pushing and squeezing with cameras on their shoulders.
It was to the point that their hair got messed up and their faces were screwed up. The flashes from the cameras still blinded Summer even from a distance.
The world had no shortage of rubbernecks. They cared not about what the truth was, they just saw what they wanted to see.
They did not care if things would affect a person dearly. There was no such thing as empathy.
If you wanted to do something about it, you had to go at it alone. Summer thought to herself as she walked into the living room of the Jarrett mansion.
Since the incident, except for Lynn who had to return to the office, no one dared to venture outside. The maid saw Summer and ran back in to inform the family members.
When she got in, Karen and Alexander were coming down the stairs. Karen immediately saw her and called her out.
“Mom.” Summer looked down, greeting her with an expressionless face before looking up and greeting Alexander. Standing behind him, Karen began to speak cautiously while they were in the living room. “Please take a seat, I’ll go make some tea.”
Summer sneered quietly at Karen. After what happened to her, Karen showed no concern for her. All she cared about was buttering up Grandpa Jarrett.
Karen had been walking on eggshells for all her life as she tried to please Lynn, Vicky and her brother, and Alexander at the same time.
She pleased everyone but her own biological daughter. She never thought of giving her a word of comfort after all that had happened.
It seemed that she was habitually ignoring Summer.
After Karen left, Alexander started to speak, “I know what has happened online. I have forbidden your elder sister from going out. She doesn’t know what she’s doing even though she’s this old!”
He sounded like he was disappointed with Vicky, but he probably said that to appease her.
“I want to see her.” The purpose of her visit today was to see Vicky.
Alexander did not reject her request but asked a maid to bring her upstairs to Vicky. Arriving outside the room, she could already hear Vicky’s furious yells.
“Let me out!
“You b*tches, bastards! I’m going to teach you all a lesson when I get out! You better get out of my sight by then!”
After ranting and raving for a while, Vicky stopped, apparently tired.
A maid bowed her head and greeted Summer when she saw her approaching.
She nodded lightly. “Open the door,” she said.
It seemed that Alexander meant what he said; Vicky had been confined to her room, locked from the outside and guarded by a maid. The maid opened the lock and door, then Summer walked in.
Vicky was sitting on the sofa. Her eyes were glued to her mobile phone, and she had a sweet smile on her face, not noticing that Summer had come in.
“What are you so happy about?” Summer squinted at her.
Too immersed in her little world, she was shocked and shaken when she heard Summer’s voice. Her expression changed, and her eyes seemed to burn into Summer. “Are you a ghost? Can’t you knock on the door or something before you come in?”
Summer said nothing and just went up to her.
Vicky put down her mobile phone with triumph written all over her face. “Yo, so it’s you, the most hated person on Earth. How dare you still come out here? Aren’t you afraid that people will hurl rotten eggs at you?”
After saying what she wanted to say, her lips curled up in a triumphant smile. Her face then turned a little eerie.
“That’s why I’m here, looking for you.” Summer smirked, her expressionless face not showing any hint of fear.
That was what Vicky hated most about her; she hated to see Summer tough like Iron Man. She wanted to see Summer collapse in despair and go crazy.
“How can you be so shameless and still act as if nothing has happened while people out there are calling you a slutty mistress?” Vicky almost forced the words through her teeth.
Summer stood in front of Vicky, looking down at her while she was sitting on the sofa. “Now, tell me what the certificate of marriage is all about.” The clothes she was wearing belonged to Jessica, and they were of an expensive brand.
Her getup consisted of a sweater under a cool-looking rivet leather jacket, making her appear cold on a whole. When she looked down at Vicky, a powerful sense of presence exuded from her.
Vicky looked at her and subconsciously made a Freudian slip. “It was Ad…” But she came to her senses all of a sudden. Why did she have to tell Summer the truth? She thought she had gone mad.
“All you need to know is that the certificate of marriage is genuine, and you, Summer, will be a slutty mistress forever!” She made sure Summer heard the last part by emphasizing it.
Summer did not turn a hair, but her hands that were dangling on either side had clenched up in fists. “I know the answer even if you refuse to tell me.” She took a deep breath, gradually calming down. “It was Adams who gave it to you.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Adams is an actor. How could he get his hands on those photos? You think too much,” Vicky quickly explained.
Liars always avoided eye contact, and Vicky was no different.
Summer thought Vicky was wrong; nothing was impossible in this world.
She had previously thought that a person like Adams would not have taken interest in Vicky.
Yet, it turned out that they had banded together to hit her and Leonardo below the belt.
Shooting Vicky a sideways glance, Summer sat down across from her. “It seems that Adams doesn’t particularly like you. You don’t even know who he really is.”
She had noticed that whenever she mentioned Adams, Vicky would appear nervous.
Vicky’s feelings for Adams were real. She had never seen Vicky have such a nervous reaction toward other men who she had slept with before.
“This is my room, so get out of my sight!” Vicky pointed at the door as she barked at Summer.
However, Summer had not a hint of anger on her face. She got to her feet slowly. “Goodbye, then.”
She went there just to confirm her suspicion; she wanted to know if Vicky and Adams had joined hands.
Since she had gotten her answer, there was no reason for her to say. Adams must have handed the certificate of marriage to Vicky and made use of her.
