Chapter 204 If She Loses So Much as a Hair

“Go and get some rest, then,” Jessica urged.
Summer got up and went into the bedroom. As she closed the door, she got a glimpse of Jessica looking down at her mobile phone with her brows knitted together, big time. She was probably reading through the comments.
Closing the door behind her, she was now alone in the room. With her back against the door, she slid down onto the floor, tears rolling down her cheeks without her realizing. She was not particularly sad, just feeling drained.
She had envied others for their parents and families ever since she was little. After she entered the film academy, she started to write screenplays, supporting herself with what little money she got from her works. Only then did she not feel so envious of others. Living on her own was not that difficult at all, she had figured.
After marrying into the Emerson family, Leonardo pranked her with the “Douglas” identity. She was angry when she found out about it, but Leonardo won her over; she could not resist him. She had been craving for warmth and love.
Perhaps, it was because she had never been loved before. Once she found someone nearby, she could not help but fall head over heels in love with him.
However, love could make a person become greedy. She found that she was not the most important person to Leonardo. He was using her to test Adams. It turned out that she was only someone he could risk losing.

Summer did not know how she fell asleep and when she woke up. After the night passed, she felt a little better, but things had affected her extremely.
With her being labeled as a slutty mistress, how was she going to pursue her career as a screenwriter?
Even if she could achieve fame, people would always remember her as a mistress first.
However, she would never give up on her dream of becoming a screenwriter or identify herself as a mistress. She was the first to marry into the Emerson family.
Taking out her mobile phone, she browsed through Weibo for a while. People were bashing her everywhere online.
Although she was mentally prepared for it, she still had a lump in her throat when she saw the critical comments with her own eyes.
“Summer, wake up and come out for breakfast.” Jessica called her from the outside. She sounded a little cautious, though.
“Coming!” She turned off her mobile phone, slapped on her sandals, and headed out.
She saw Jessica standing outside with a glazed look in her eyes when she opened the door, and she smiled at her. “Come on, let’s have breakfast.”
Jessica followed her. Seeing her traumatized condition last night, Jessica was very worried and was thinking of comforting her today. Little did she expect Summer to come out as if nothing had ever happened.
Sitting at the dining table, Jessica started to speak. “Summer—”
But Summer interrupted her. “I’m going back to the Jarrett family later.”
“Why are you going back there?” Jessica was startled, putting down her chopsticks.
“Vicky must have something to do with the certificate of marriage. Both Leonardo and I don’t know about it, but I’m sure the Jarrett family knows something.”
Gulping down the last of her milk, Summer stood up. “You can carry on with your things if you want. I can go back on my own.”
“But—” Jessica was still a little worried.
“Those are just fabrications. The truth will prevail.” Summer smiled. “It will be over soon.” Things would be over, although she still could not work out something surrounding Leonardo. However, that did not matter now. Solve the issue at hand was more important now.

Summer changed into a set of Jessica’s clothes before she left, complete with a pair of sunglasses and a mask. After she was done, Jessica went up to her with a poker face, still trying to comfort her. “It’s sort of like giving you an advanced experienced of what it means to be a celebrity.”
Walking out of the neighborhood, Summer noticed that Tim was at the gate.
“Mrs. Emerson,” Tim greeted. His hair was a little messy as if he had a bad night’s sleep.
“Why are you here?” she asked with a frown.
“The young master has asked me to wait for you. If you wish to go somewhere, I can give you a ride.” Tim nodded, his voice respectful as ever.
Summer looked inexpressive and said nothing. She just found Leonardo to be scarily clever, so clever that he knew she was going back to the Jarrett family.
“Thank you.”
This was a special situation. It would be good to have Tim fetch her, plus she could avoid a lot of trouble.
Once in the car, she took out her mobile phone and visited Weibo again. A few trending topics relating to her had been deleted. Even posts about her were gone from major online forums. However, there were still some screenshots of the trending topic being circulated around.
“It’s said that Vicky, the second child of the Jarrett family, was supposed to marry the son of the Emerson family. She was the elder sister, but the younger one ended up marrying into the Emerson family…”
“The younger daughter? Didn’t people say she was ugly and dimwitted?”
“Who knows? Maybe the rich have unique tastes.”
“Maybe the two sisters are sharing the same young master.”
“You will never know what the rich are capable of.”
“It’s not like the two sisters are all that innocent…”
Summer felt angry when she read those comments, but she comforted herself by saying that these people were nobody to her, and she felt a little better.
A phone rang in the cabin all of a sudden. It was not hers, but Tim’s. He glanced at Summer in the rearview mirror as he answered the call. It was Leonardo.
“Is Summer in the car?” Leonardo’s voice was hoarse after a sleepless night.
“Aye,” Tim answered.
“I’ve sent bodyguards over. Keep your eyes peeled. If she loses so much as a hair, don’t think about coming back anymore.” His voice was low as ever, and there were no hints of a threat. Yet, Tim still broke out in a cold sweat.
“Understood.”
As soon as he hung up, Summer handed him a tissue paper. “Is the air-conditioning not cold enough? I can see you sweating.”
No, he was not hot, just scared, but the next second, Tim spoke against his conscience, “Thanks, Mrs. Emerson. I feel a little hot here.”
Soon, they arrived at the Jarrett’s residence. Two other cars were parked at the front, and Summer wondered who was visiting. Following that, a group of men, dressed up in suits like those bodyguards in Leonardo’s mansion, got out of the two cars.
They went up to her and opened the car door.
“Mrs. Emerson,” they all greeted.
“What are all of you doing here?” she asked as she got out of the car.
“Waiting for you,” the bodyguards said in unison as if they had rehearsed it before.
She suddenly found that all of them looked somewhat stupid. Just then, a group of journalists lunged out from the treeline across the road.
“Mrs. Emerson, may I have an interview with you?”
