Turning on the light and taking her mobile phone, she was ready to leave.
Leonardo complained that he was tired. So was she.
In such a circumstance, letting each other cool down was the wisest thing to do.
However, Leonardo was not going to let her off just yet. He got out of bed at once and went up to block her path. “Please don’t make a fuss at this hour of the night.”
“You’re the one who’s making a fuss.” Summer looked up at him, her expression just as cold as his.
He pinched his brow with his hand, his eyes looking tired. “Is it because of what happened this morning?”
She said nothing. Things in the morning were just a trigger.
Both of them had been too busy lately.
She could only see him if she woke up in the middle of the night even though they lived in the same house.
She waited in anticipation to have dinner with him in the Golden Cauldron, but he came late.
She did not make a fuss about it since he had explained to her that there was a minor accident on the way.
The moment she became upset because she and Adams were trending online again, he made it sound like it was her fault.
She could take it no more. In relationships, the woman only cared about the man’s attitude most of the time.
“It’s late at night, I don’t want to talk about it now.” Summer truly did not want to talk about it.
She needed to go to work tomorrow, and Leonardo had been super busy lately.
She just wanted to give both of them some space and let things cool down.
Then they could sort it out.
Not sleeping together during this cool-down period was the best choice.
Otherwise, she was worried that they would quarrel.
“Okay,” said Leonardo, his face expressionless.
Sweeping her up in his arms, he carried her back into bed and hugged her tightly in his arms. “Now, let’s go to sleep.”
Once again, she realized that reason did not work on this man.
She was woken up from her sleep the next morning and greeted by his deep-set dark eyes the moment she opened hers.
“You awake?” While he spoke, he traced his large hand around every curve of her body.
“What are you doing?” She reached out to stop his hand, her groggy voice sounding a little childish.
Leonardo’s brow twitched. He came down to kiss her on her red cheeks, moving slowly to the back of her ear.
He was breathing heavily when he said, “I’ve been too busy. We haven’t gotten the chance to have a workout.”
“Last night, we just— ”
“It was the night before last.” He cut her off, his slender fingers sliding past her belly and moving down under.
Her breathing started to get heavy too. “Make it fast, I’ve got to go to work…” She was still worried about work at that moment. It showed how busy she really was.
Leonardo was a lot gentler this time, but over-the-top gentleness could be a torment.
He was also more patient than he was at any other time.
In the end, when she could not help letting out a soft moan, he lingered just outside of her, stopping short of penetration.
While she was almost out of her mind with ecstasy, he preyed on her vulnerability.
“Do you still want to sleep in the next room?”
“No…” Gritting her teeth, she was shivering with delight from his torment.
“Good.” He penetrated her.
The tight feeling that wrapped around him sent him into a euphoria.
He moaned with delight, his gentleness taking a backseat as he was now impatient and hungry like a wolf.
She was now helpless under him, receiving every stroke of his wild motion.
Still in a trance, Summer seemed to remember that she and Leonardo were still, technically, at war.
Yet somehow, she was in his arms. She fell asleep again before she could work out why.
Leonardo carried her into the bathroom and bathed her.
She became worked up midway. “I need to work,” she said in a trance.
“I’ve called and got you a day off.” He was rubbing body wash over her, his voice gentle.
She acknowledged, then drowsily closed her eyes again.
Carrying her back into bed and tucking her under the duvet, Leonardo sat on the edge of the bed and stared at her.
He had not been getting much sleep lately, but with Summer in his arms, he could finally sleep soundly.
As soon as he could not feel her in his arms, he would wake up and draw her back in.
Last night, when he drew Summer back in after he could not feel her in his arms, her first reaction was to push him away.
She never did that before, and it flustered him a bit.
He had been too busy lately. The only time they could see each other was when they were in bed. When they finally found some time to have dinner together, he met a minor accident on the way. When he finally made it to the Golden Cauldron and saw Summer’s disappointed expression, he was very upset. However, he could not help it.
Working in the Emerson Group, there were a thousand and one things to do.
He needed to centralize all the powers in his hands so it would be more convenient for him to investigate his mom’s case.
When he saw that Summer and Adams had begun trending online again the next morning, his mood went from bad to worse, and he started to put his foot in his mouth.
Summer was very mindful. Even if she was angry, she would appear terribly calm instead of making a scene.
It would be easier for him to coax her if she did, but she was extremely calm and rational.
She even wanted to go and sleep in the next room because she said she needed to go to work the next day.
Not sleeping together? There was no way that was going to happen, not in this life.
His mobile phone rang suddenly. It was Michael calling.
“Why are you taking leave?” asked Michael.
“I’m not feeling well.” Since he just had an intense “workout”, even his voice was a little husky, making it sound as if he was ill.
“Take care, then.” Michael did not ask further.
As the line went dead, Leonardo smiled in self-deprecation.
He was thinking that Summer must have cast a spell on him; he would be lovesick whenever she was not around.
…
Waking up all groggy, Summer smelled the aroma of rice and dishes.
She opened her eyes and saw Leonardo laying a spread on a small table in the bedroom.
She liked to see him in casual home wear because it made him look less intimidating but gentler instead.
It was a gentleness that only she could see. But then, how did she end up in bed with him?
Noticing that Summer was awake, he smiled at her. “You’re awake! It’s breakfast time.”
Summer did not want to look at him. Was this the man’s way of cajoling her? By making love? She suddenly bounced up from the bed and asked, “What time is it?” She needed to go to work.
“I’ve asked for a day off on your behalf,” Leonardo said.
She had only been on her job for a few days. She was taking leave because of this? Checking the time, she noticed it was past ten. It was too late.
It felt weird to sit face to face as they had their breakfast.
Summer hesitated before she asked what had been on her mind for a while.
“What do you make of your elder brother?”
