The one who took their statement was an inexperienced, young police officer. As Summer and Jessica played the victim, the police were looking at them in doubt. No way the two little women could beat the daylights out of the two big guys.
Nevertheless, even if the police knew that it was Summer and Jessica who did that, they would most likely shut their eyes to it. They despised these hooligans, too. Sometimes, it takes more than persuasion to make one see reason, and a little violence would go a long way in knocking sense into the wicked ones.
The two men were indignant. One of them said, “Officer, she was the one who hit me! I swear!”
“Where is the proof?” one police officer asked with a face solemn.
It was a difficult question. Although there were CCTVs outside the changing room, there were none inside. The culprits who hired the two men to photograph Jessica had cleared everyone off the scene beforehand. Where were they going to find witnesses?
“It is the police’s duty to find proof!” The man was not happy.
Summer looked at the man and said matter-of-factly, “You can always sue us in the court of law.”
The man shot her a glare and said not a word. It was not worth the trouble to sue the two women. Even if won, the amount of compensation they were going to get would be tiny. They were just hired to do the job, and they did not want more trouble than they were already in.
At last, the two men had to spend half a month in the police lockup on top of the beating from Jessica and Summer.
…
Leonardo had come together with Carl, but he had not said a word during the entire time.
On the way out, as Summer walked past him, Leonardo suddenly grasped her arm. She tried to pull her hand back but to no avail. Looking up in irritation, she wanted to burst out.
Just then Leonardo said unemotionally, “Are you all right?”
After the misery of last night, Summer did not look at her happiest now. “What do you want from me? Let me go!”
It was the most annoying when this man willfully kept standing in her way. When you like someone, you would find him look elegant even when he is picking his nose. But when you are not, you would see him as an eyesore no matter what he does.
There were a thousand and one emotions wrecking him. Two seconds later, As Leonardo let off his hand, she went past him to the outside.
At the main lobby, Summer saw two policewomen surrounding Jessica, chatting away with her. Summer went within earshot and heard what they said.
“Don’t be worried. We will teach them a lesson!”
“I hate people using such despicable means…”
“Is your new movie hitting the screen next month?”
“Can’t we take a picture together?”
Summer stood at where she was. As the two policewomen were still on duty, they hurried off after taking a photo with Jessica.
“You have fans everywhere! They even offered to help you out!” Coming up to Jessica, Summer teased.
“Yeah.” Jessica put her hand around her shoulders. “When are you going to get away from the inferno of Jarrett Group and concentrate on screenwriting?” That said, Jessica smacked herself on the head. “Look, I almost forgot! I took your script to a director, and he seemed to like it. But since you’re just a rookie, he will surely haggle over the price.”
“Really?” Summer could not hold back her elation. “Price is negotiable.”
Summer had started writing screenplays since her university years to earn some money. But the price was low and the money she got was barely enough for her pocket money. She had tried her hands in short films, online drama series, movies, and custom theme writings. She liked thrillers. And as the thriller genre was becoming popular in recent years, and also because Adams was a thriller actor, she had written a thriller screenplay. It took her countless hours in researching and half a year of writing, and the script was yet completed.
“Many movie directors are calling for more thriller stuff. I will get more of them to look at your work, and you might have more options. Who knows, it could turn out to be a big hit!”
As Jessica shot her mouth off, Summer laughed.
Carl, who stood silent, suddenly said, “Summer, you can pass me the script, I’m going to let our movie directors take a look.”
Carl may have had the best intention, but Leonardo was still his boss. Thinking of that, Summer shook her head as if wanting to keep a distance. “Thanks, but no thanks.”
Speaking of which, Summer realized that Leonardo had not come out with them. Just then, she got a new message notification on her mobile phone. Taking it out, she took a glance and saw that it was Leonardo.
“I need to take care of a few things. You guys, please wait for me in the car.”
Why did he need to send her this message? It was not like she was going to wait for him. Summer showed the message to Carl and said, “Leonardo wants you all to wait in the car.”
It was only then that Carl sensed something wrong in her tone of voice. When he got a call earlier in his office, someone, who obviously did not know Summer, told him Jessica had run into trouble in the studio, that she was accompanied by a friend. He knew without a doubt at that moment that the friend was Summer. That was why he had called Leonardo. At that time, he was just as worried as Leonardo was. Grabbing his jacket, he had hurried over with him. The first thing he did when he arrived was looking for Jessica. It was only now he realized that Leonardo had not been talking with Summer since the moment he arrived. They were at war again.
Jessica signaled Carl by kicking him on his leg. He got the message and immediately went outside. Jessica held Summer and walked her out of the police station.
“You two haven’t come to terms with each other yet? Is it about the party?”
“No.” Summer shook her head. “It’s about something else.”
Seeing Summer knitting her brows together, Jessica could not help but do the same. She then said cautiously, “I think Boss is a nice man.”
Summer wondered what made Jessica think so. She just smiled and said matter-of-factly, “In contrast, I think Carl is better.”
Jessica shook her head as if words choked in her throat.
Summer let out a sigh and stopped in her tracks as she started to speak in an envious tone of voice that she had never displayed before. “Carl might not look the most dependable, but it is brazenly clear that all he wants is you and no one else. But look at Leonardo, can you tell if all he wants is me?”
Summer got Jessica on this one. Although she thought Leonardo treated Summer well, and Leonardo was a good man, she had a hard time telling how deep his feelings were toward Summer.
