The corner of her mouth arched in a smirk. “You’re afraid to answer the question, because deep inside, you know you are only approaching me because I look like Rachel.” Douglas had told her that Rachel’s surname was Hill.
Everything Leonardo did and his care for her was not because she was Summer but because she looked like a woman named Rachel. He had been looking at the other woman through her all this while. He had transferred his feelings for another woman to her. She did not really own anything. Everything belonged to the woman named Rachel.
Even though Summer had gotten wise to it, she still hoped to hear a negative answer from Leonardo. She hoped he would say ‘No.’ But he did not. Instead, he turned around and left in anguish.
Summer lay on the bed, eyes on the ceiling so that her tears would not roll down her cheeks.
…
It was Monday when Summer hobbled with a walking stick to her office in Jarrett Group. Since Jarrett Sr. was back taking the helm, the entire company was in a hive of activity; everyone was busy.
Despite injuring her leg, they still assigned her tasks, albeit less demanding. Time flies when you are busy. When Summer finished work, it was already 7. 00 p. m.
Her colleagues were talking about where to have their dinner. Seeing Summer was still here, out of courtesy, they asked her, “Summer, do you want to join us?”
“Yeah.” Summer replied with a smile.
Their expressions froze for a second as if her answer surprised them. In the end, Summer did not manage to go out with them because Jessica had called, needing her to send clothes over to her.
Sensing something not right, she asked, “What happened?”
“It’s a long story. I’m now trapped in the changing room, naked. I don’t have any clothes with me, and someone could be coming at any minute.”
Jessica sounded calm, but still, Summer’s heart missed a beat. “Send me your location. I’m coming to you right away.”
Jessica suddenly remembered when Jessica first joined the entertainment industry, she always complained to her about how rookies being pranked and how shameless those people were. Once, Jessica even had said that she wanted to quit, staying at home and doing nothing could still make the best things of her life. But she still ended up going to work early in the morning the next day. It was all because she enjoyed acting.
You can keep your life simple if you keep your desire to a minimum. But once you have your eyes on something, more expectations, you will have to expect your life is a bumpy ride. Just like when she decided to accept Leonardo, her life was destined to be a rough journey. Even if she would be hurt, falling, and abandoned, it was her choice. Would she be able to return to the starting point if she quit now? Summer did not know; she did not want to think about it now.
She quickly went into a departmental store, grabbed a few pieces of clothes, paid, and hurried out.
…
The place where Jessica was shooting commercials was an ad hoc studio. Even the changing room was a temporary structure, not very safe. Arriving at the place, Summer sneaked in and looked for the changing room.
“Jessica.” She shouted out in a whisper. At last, she found Jessica in a tiny changing room in a corner.
“Is that you, Summer?” Jessica’s voice sounded a little husky.
Summer had felt the low air temperature in the changing room the moment she came in. Those people had even turned off the heater, determined to freeze Jessica over. She tossed the clothes inside. After a moment, Jessica said, “Damn it, my fingers are numb from the cold. I can’t even put on my clothes…”
Summer suddenly thought her worries were unnecessary. She went in to help her with her clothes. Once done, Jessica was all smiles.
“I will surely marry you if you were a man!”
“Perish the thought!” Summer hissed. “If I were a man, I’d have chosen a woman like me.”
Jessica rolled her eyes, and just as they were about to get out, they heard voices talking outside.
“Which changing room Jessica is in?”
“Let’s just check it out one by one. It is so cold inside, she’s not going anywhere with no clothes.”
“Those bitches are freaking creative with their pranks!”
“I’ve seen Jessica’s movies; she has definitely not done any face job. Her body line is just gorgeous. Who knows, we might get a chance to feel her up?”
Jessica could no longer hold back her anger at this point, lifting her feet about to lung out. But Summer stopped her and said to her in a whisper, “Wait for them. When they come near, we will give them the good news and then only call the police. If you go out now, you will only scare them away.”
Still snorting, Jessica held her horses. It did not take long for the two men to find the changing room where Jessica and Summer were. The men came in tandem with the man at the rear holding a camera. By now, Jessica could no longer hold back, lunging out and punching one man on his face. The man with the camera turned and wanted to flee. Raising her walking stick and hopping out, Summer hit the man on his head. It did not take much effort before Jessica subdued the two men, one in her hand, the other under her feet.
“Those people who hire you two to take nude photos of me must be idiots! They are just making a meal out of it.”
Hearing what Jessica said gave Summer the heebie-jeebies. Fortunately, those plotted to screw Jessica were idiots.
…
They called the police and went to the police station.
The policemen looked at Summer and Jessica, then the two men who were beaten black and blue still tried to work out how this could happen. The combat strength of the little women should not be taken lightly.
Before they finished giving their statements, Leonardo and Carl had arrived.
Carl came in, his hair messy, wearing an overcoat with one side of the collar of his sweater underneath folded inward and the other side folded outward. He had obviously been in a hurry. Running up to Jessica, he asked with concern, “Jessica, are you all right?”
“I’m fine, just scared…” Jessica replied with a quavering voice.
Summer had heard such a voice from her just now, but she still could not help getting goosebump on her skin.
“It’s all right now. I’m going to teach them a lesson!” Carl had no doubt of what Jessica said.
“This is a police station,” a policeman warned.
Jessica looked at the policeman, sniffing. With a helpless voice, she said, “Officer, we didn’t hit them. They tripped and hurt themselves.” Barefaced liar.
“Yeah, officer. How could we two women overpower them? Especially when my leg is in this condition…” Summer almost believed in her own lie. But what was more important was, the policemen believed them.
