Wedding off
Upon hearing her words, Rian stared at Ava sharply with mixed feelings of dismay and shock. He was finding it hard to believe what she’d just said.
“What do you mean by the father of your child? Why is he here now? Today? Where’s he been all this while?”
It was Lucas’s turn to speak then, “when you saw her bump, did it never occur to you that someone else was responsible for that? Did it never occur to you that someone else had her first? Or are you just so daft…?”
“That’s enough, Lucas!” Ava yelled at him. “There’s no need to be insulting him like that!!!
“I don’t blame you,” Rian spat back. “You abandon such a beautiful woman and child and walk out of her life, now you come here to claim rights that you do not even have, rights that you threw away. What kind of wolf would you call yourself? If she’s already yours as you claim, why did you leave her all alone for so long? Did you expect that she’d just be available for you whenever you like?”
Ava was getting tired of all this. This argument was all because of her, what she could have avoided. If only Lucas hadn’t come. If only she hadn’t let him have his way with her. She felt like kicking herself then as the quarrels between the two wolves continued.
“What kind of mate are you? You’re so evil. I watched Ava, she was so lonely here, bored up to the extent that she would take many long walks till her legs got tired. I honestly thought you were dead, because I asked myself what kind of alive mate would do this to his partner? I might not know you all that well, but I know that you are evil, for what you did to Ava and her child, you are nothing but evil!!”
Lucas clenched his fist, his head slowly beginning to boil with rage at Rian’s words. Ava saw this, and held nothing but fear in her heart for this omega.
“Rian… please… I know that you’re upset, but please… stop it! I beg you, Rian. Stop it for your sake!!!”
As Ava kept pleading, something random caught Rian’s attention behind her then. He noticed the bedroom in her chambers, looking so different from how it usually was; so disorganized. He didn’t need anyone to give him further information as he saw the sheets on the ground. Ava was never one to leave her room looking so messed up, unless something had happened here not too long before he came, something that Rian prayed would only be a what he was imagining.
He didn’t waste time in asking her then, letting out the question at once, before Ava began wondering the reason for his sudden silence.
“Did you sleep with him, Ava?”
Ava’s look held confusion and sadness, she sure wasn’t expecting the question. “Rian… why are you asking that?”
“Damnit! Answer me, Ava. Did you sleep with this… good for nothing wolf?”
Lucas growled, “if you open that mouth of yours to insult me again…”
“I wasn’t talking to you!” Rian barked boldly, not budged by Lucas’s threat, nor large stance. The only thing he seemed interested in was the answer that Ava was about to give.
Ava didn’t know when the tears started running as she confessed, her tears were the only thing that gave Lucas the patience to deal with Rian’s attitude, “Rian… I… I’m sorry… I…”
He let out an empty laugh, “so you did, huh? When I saw him coming out of your room this morning, I prayed that my eyes would just be deceiving me. I prayed that I would just be the one imagining things. No… I told myself. Ava would never do something like that… but of course, I thought wrong.”
He was about to walk away, Ava then ran past Lucas and reached for him, stopping him by tugging his shirt from behind, “Rian… please, don’t… please don’t go…” she cried. “Please… we’ll work it out together, we can still marry…”
“Get your hands off me, Ava. You are nothing but cheap! And you have no ounce of decency in you…”
Ava released her grip then, taken aback by Rian’s words, “so now insulting my mate was not enough for you, you insult me too. Truly, did you ever bother to ask me or yourself who the father of my child is? You just kept moving fast… you kept on pushing this marriage forward but you never thought to ask me of my true feelings! You rushed me into this, Rian! I am sorry for what happened, but you are equally to blame as well.”
“Do you even listen to yourself? So, I am equally to blame that those legs of yours couldn’t close… you’re nothing but a slut… and that bastard you’re carrying…”
Ava then moved out of reflex, she didn’t know what sort of action prompted her, was it anger from Rian insulting her mate, herself or her child? She couldn’t tell, but she sure felt a lot better when she saw his hand print on her check; the impact from the slap she landed on his face. Her actions surprised Lucas, but then it reminded him the reason why he fell in love with her in the first place, he didn’t hide his smirk then when he saw Rian nearly lose balance as he clutched his face in his left hand.
The sun had come out, and the Daivie wolves nearby that had woken up gathered at the scene, surprised to see an alpha and omega contending for the same woman. How bold Rian thinks himself to be. How could he be so careless about his life like that?
Ava didn’t care about anyone watching; her mind was filled with anger and hurt with the way Rian had spoken about her son, she could have forgiven anything he said about her or Lucas, but not her unborn son.
“Get out! I never want to speak with you again!” She growled at him.
Rian realized then that he’d gone too far with his words… Maybe it was the slap that made him see just how much he’d hurt this woman he claimed to love. He calmed himself and began to beg.
“Ava… I’m sorry if I said anything rash… You can’t blame me… anyone who was as hurt as I was would have said the same thing…”
She cut him short, not needing any explanations from him, “get out Rian… this wedding is off. Thank you for letting me see the kind of person you are, thank you for telling me your mind, before I made the biggest mistake of my life…”
Rian went on both his knees, wanting her to see his sincerity. He really loves her, he just didn’t know what came over him when he said those words, “Ava… please…”
“She said you should get out, or are you deaf?”
“I WAS NOT TALKING TO YOU!” Rian growled. “Why don’t you just stay out of matters that don’t concern you!?”
She is my woman. Anything involving her will always concern me. Now get out before I lose the last ounce of patience I am holding with you.
Rian got up, “I don’t even know where you came from… because of you… my wedding got cancelled. Alpha Daryl must hear of this…”
“Oh, alpha Daryl WILL hear of this alright, including the nasty things you said about me and my family.”
Rian found his words difficult to comprehend, but then he shrugged it off, not wanting to let it show. He speaks like he is of high ranking, even his appearance says so, but Rian knows better. Who does he think he is? Deceiving everyone with such demanding presence? Surely, he can’t be an alpha…
“Contending with you is a waste of my time,” Rian spat as he walked away. “I won’t let this go, we will be meeting in court soon, where alpha Daryl will be judging our case…”
Lucas ignored him as he placed his attention back on Ava. She was still crying… holding her hand to her chest, before she suddenly dropped to the ground, exhausted from all the yelling.
“Ava…” he ran to hold her, quickly hoisting her up as he took her inside her chambers, shutting her door behind him, from the prying eyes of those who’d gathered.
