CHAPTER 171 (74)

Rian and Lucas
After plenty of struggling, Ava finally gave up trying to fight him. Lucas had clearly proven that he wasn’t going to leave until she at least allowed both of them to talk. She then decided to let him say what he had to say so he could be on his way when he was done.
He allowed her a few minutes to put on her clothes, before she returned to sit on her rocking chair in front of him, waiting for whatever it was he had to say. Seeing that he had her attention, he took a deep breath before he began.
“I would have come.”
She didn’t understand what he meant by that. He saw her expression and decided to break things down for her.
“I know with the way things happened, it might seem that it’s only because I didn’t want you to get married that I came here, but that’s far from the truth. It might seem otherwise, but I still would have come here for you, Ava. I still would have come to get you and our child.”
“And you thought the best way to establish that fact was by sending me anonymous gifts.”
“I’ve always wanted to keep in touch in some way. That last note I sent you was because I was finally finding the strength to come here, until I found out about your engagement. It’s true that me finding out about did hasten my decision to come, but I would have still come anyway. I would never leave you and our child here for long.”
“Are you the one who gave Daryl the orders for me to be caged like some prisoner?”
“I told him to give you the best treatment, not to be fully caged, but just enough protection to be safe. I’m sorry, Ava, I only wanted the best for you and our son. I couldn’t contain myself when Nani told me it was a boy. And you don’t know how heart wrenching it was for me to find out you were getting mated to someone else, you have to call off that engagement Ava. The way you were with me just now only proves that you don’t love that guy, whoever he is.”
She shook her head firmly, “no… if that’s why you came here, then sorry… no… not sorry to disappoint. I won’t be calling off my engagement.”
He smirked, coming closer to her then, “do you think he’ll still agree to marry you after what we just did? A day to your wedding for that matter?”
Ava rolled her eyes, “if you slept with me thinking that it would ruin my engagement, then you’ve only wasted your time. I know I made a mistake by cheating on Rian with you, but I’m willing to let him know about it before we get married.”
“So that’s his name… Rian… does you make you as desirous as I do?” Lucas whispered asking.
“This isn’t about desires Lucas. It’s far from it, I’m going to tell him the truth; I at least owe it to him.”
“And how do you think he’ll react when you tell him?”
“I don’t know, but I do expect that his reaction would be far from yours if it were you, because he’s a much different person than you are. He’s not you, he sees my flaws but doesn’t even act like they are there. This will hurt him, but he’s got a more forgiving heart, something you lack.”
“Ava… I’m not going to say this again, but I won’t be able to take it if you choose to go ahead with the wedding. I’ll… I’ll crash it.”
Ava faced him squarely, standing her ground. “No threat of yours will make me change my mind, Lucas De’ Clan. And I’d like to see you try to stop this wedding.”
“Ava…”
“Get out of my room!!! You’ve had the talk you insisted on having with me, and now you know my final answer… now get out!”
She’s told him her final decision, Lucas knows he won’t be giving up, but for now it’s time to leave her alone. He turned to leave, and as he headed out the door, opening it, he met a younger, much smaller wolf standing in front of the door. The omega looked shocked to see him.
What could this guy be doing in Ava’s room so early in the morning? The sun hadn’t even come out yet! He’s definitely not from this pack; Rian has never seen him here before, so where did he come from? And what had he been doing with Ava in there?
Lucas had his own questions in his mind, including why Ava was receiving visitors so early in the morning, but when he put two and two together, he realized that this must be Ava’s mate-to-be, the one she was supposed to get married to today.
“Who are you?” Rian asked him, though having a smaller and more slender body frame than the alpha standing in front of him, it didn’t seem to ease his level of boldness.
Lucas only shot him a dangerous glare, but it was either that Rian didn’t pay enough attention, or he was too stupid to comprehend.
“I asked you a question,” Rian repeated as he looked inside. Ava was seated on her chair before having seen what was going on, she got up with slight discomfort.
“Rian…”
Rian nudged his head toward Lucas, asking her, “who is he, Ava? And what was he doing in your room in the early hours of our wedding day?”
Ava knew that if there was ever a time for Rian to know the truth, it had to be now. She had to be honest; no lies, no pretending.
“Rian… this is Lucas De’ Clan. He is the father of the child I am carrying.”
