“What happened?”
The doctor asked looking at his hand.
“I mistakenly hit it somewhere and it is so fucking painful,”
He said as the doctor helped him remove his shirt, he saw that his hand was bleeding again, Nicole didn’t even hit hard enough for him to be bleeding this much.
“This is why I told you to look after yourself but you claimed to be fine, now we have to do a restitch or it might get infected and that’s not good,”
The doctor said to him as he placed a call across, it happened so fast, one minute he was watching the doctor give out instructions to whoever on the other side of the call, and the next minute, he saw himself falling, his head spinning and he couldn’t control himself, he heard the doctor yell for someone and that was all he could remember.
When he woke up again, he was back on the bed he had run away from, with the doctor, not the one he was with earlier but another doctor fixing something on the drip near his bed.
“You are awake, you stubborn man, you nearly killed yourself,”
The doctor said with a frown.
“What time is it doc?”
He asked, he felt like he has been asleep since forever.
“Nine pm, you had a re-surgery which can be very exhausting and since it within the same day, you went under anesthesia twice and that alone, well you must be very strong seeing that you are awake already, it would have taken longer than this.”
The doctor explained, Rafael didn’t know much about what he was talking about and didn’t care either, he just wanted the damn thing to wear off completely so that he can be fine again, he wanted to go see Nicole again but remembered that she told him not to come back until he has rested enough and was okay, of course, he had his rest but the woman had been mad at him for neglecting himself, he didn’t want her worried about him again so he was going to make sure he was perfectly fine before he shows up near her again.
“Doc? How soon can I be discharged?”
He asked the doctor who looked at him puzzled.
“Hmm, you are not on admission remember? You said not to sign you in as an inpatient, you are more like an outpatient and can leave anytime, why do you have something to do?”
The doctor asked.
“Yes, something really important,”
“Huh, so long as this something important is not strenuous than it all good, all you need to do is let this finish and rest a little more you can leave by morning,”
He said, Rafael knew most of the doctors here well even though he wasn’t here regularly just once or twice yearly to visit the children’s ward, he gave a lot of funds to the hospital so he was like an honorary owner if the hospital which is why just if the doctors talked to him like their own, he managed to build that kind of relationship with them, he didn’t know the value of it before, just felt like he was doing the normal thing but now looking at it with a different eyes the eyes of the man who has finally found life, it felt like he has been secretly seeking connections with people and wanting to relate with them, he saw his relationship with people in a whole new light, he wasn’t the loner he thought he was, since the news broke out last night, he has gotten calls from different people via his secretary than he could count, these were people he didn’t trust and never thought they had that kind of relationship but they cared, he realized he had a lot of people who cared and that he wasn’t a loner as he had thought but he had just locked himself away and prevented himself for seeing that all these years, he wasn’t going to do that anymore, he decided to sleep off the rest of the night.
“Thanks, doc, I will spend the night here and leave tomorrow,”
“Okay, good and in case you want to know, they are both fine,”
“Oh, I know, I saw them earlier,”
“Aha, okay, have a rest then,”
He said and left, Rafael closed his eyes when the doctor left, it wasn’t hard for him to fall asleep…
The next morning, he was up and out of the hospital as early as six am, first, he went home took a bath and made something for himself, then he went to the flowers shop and got some beautiful flowers, and asked his driver to take him to his parent’s graveside, he hasn’t been there since he took Nicole to see his parents, he dropped the flowers on both of their tombs and stood looking at them.
“Mom, dad, thank you for bringing me to this world and giving me the best you could, I still hate you guys for leaving so early and putting me through hell but I am on the way to healing, I am sorry if I didn’t understand you guys before but I do now, I understand everything and I hope you both are happy up there because I plan on being happy for the rest of my life, I am going to be a dad soon and I want to be the best dad for my child, my children, I am not going to be the kind of parents that you guys were, I am going to do better, just wanted to say I don’t hold a grudge anymore and I truly wish you guys are happy,”
He said and stood there for a couple of minutes more, before turning his back and walking away, his next stop was to a ring shop, he needed a ring to ask Nicole to marry him, he would get a better one for their wedding, he just didn’t want to ask empty-handed, he found the perfect simple gold band, got on his car and headed towards tine hospital determined to make Nicole his again, he wasn’t going to leave her side even if she turns him down…
