Chapter 171

Book:The Billionaire's Bartered Bride Published:2024-6-2

Monday, two days after her confrontation with Rafael, Nicole went to work because she had to not because she wanted to, she had work that she couldn’t finish because she had left when she had angrily gone back home, she would have gone to Aron’s studio if she had been in a good mood but she wasn’t so she decided to work in her office instead, she told one of the staff to bring a drawing board and the other things she needed to her office where she spent almost all of her Monday in, she only left when she had to eat lunch and then again when she had to go drop something off at the airport for an overseas client, she didn’t want to bother anybody with it so she had gone herself, she passed by Rafael’s office, looked up at it as she waited for the light to turn red, she could go there and talk to him, all she needed to do was make a turn but she didn’t, she drove right ahead without looking back, when she came back to the office, she met Kris there, she was crying.
“Hey Kris, what’s going on?”
She asked the teenage girl who looked up at her and went right back to crying.
“Hey, Kris, what’s going on?”
She asked sitting close to her.
“It’s my parents,”
She cried out throwing herself into Nicole’s arms, Nicole held as she cried even harder, Kris was a strong kid and for her to be crying this much means she was really hurt. she hoped her parents were okay, she let the little girl cry in her shoulders.
“I am sorry, I shouldn’t have done that,”
She apologized after about fifteen minutes.
“It’s fine Kris, wanna share?”
She asked.
“They are getting a divorce,”
Kris revealed fresh tears gathering in her eyes.
“Oh, my God, Kris, that’s so sad, I am so sorry,”
She said holding her hands.
“My parents, they are horrible, how could they not think about me and my siblings? Like, aren’t we important to them? Don’t they know how their separation would affect us?”
She asked crying, Nicole couldn’t say she understood what she was going through yes she has experienced divorce but it would be from the parent’s point of view, not Kris’s, and she would say that it wasn’t easy for her at all.
“Kris, I am sure they have their reasons maybe they tried to work it out but it was just not working out,”
“My parents never try to work things out, they were always fighting always arguing, they never care about our feelings, I don’t know why they got married if they were going to live their life fighting but still at least our family were together, at least I had both parents, but now, I am going to join the numerous list of kids at school whose parents are divorced, I hate it, Nicole,”
She cried.
“I don’t know what to say, Kris, I had both parents growing up, they weren’t the best but they were cool and now they are doing better and trying to make it up to me, I wish you will try and understand your parents a little,”
“I wish I can Cole, but they are not just separating, but they are separating my siblings and I too, my dad is going away with my brothers and my mom is going to stay back here in Florida with my sister and me, I can’t stay without my brothers, they can be a pain in the ass but they are my brothers and I love them,”
The young girl said crying all over again, Nicole didn’t know how to console her, she was also separated and if she had kids maybe her children would have felt this way too, it wasn’t nice to watch, it made her sad just what divorce could do to kids, which is why thinking hard and making sure the person one is with is the one he or she wants to be with, the kids get all the consequences and watching Kris cry, she felt pain for her, being separated from one’s siblings wasn’t nice either, she experienced that for a few moments with Natalie and it had been hell.
As much as she sympathizes with Kris she still felt for her parents, it must have been hard for them to make that decision too.
“It’s going to be fine Kris, just don’t give up, you can always go see your dad if you want to be with your brothers and there is an option of video calls and other things,”
“That doesn’t feel the same, nothing beats waking up each day to my whole family even if we barely talk,”
“I know, I understand,”
“Thank you for understanding Cole, for being here, you are the best boss ever,”
The young girl said hugging her again. She patted her back.
“I am glad I could be of help,”
She said as the young girl stood up, wiped her tears, and smiled at her.
“I should get going, mom said to come back home early today,”
Kris said.
“Sure, if you need anything call me okay?”
“Sure, thank you,”
She said and left. On her own again Nicole sat there looking at a spot and running her mind through a hell lot of things are the same time.
“You are too young for this Cole,”
She said to herself as she stood up and went to sit by the drawing board, she needed to get her job done.
She spent the rest of the day working in her studio and only looked up when the clock clicked six pm, she decided to call it a day, most of the people already left so she bid goodnight to the ones left and walked towards her car, still in a bad mood.
“Natalie?”
She said as she checked her text, as she entered her car and started it, the text simply read “meet me at the complex, I will be waiting for you,”
She dropped the phone and changed direction, Maybe Natalie wanted them to go home together, she dove towards the said complex.
