Nicole told herself not to listen to what he was saying, not to give herself false hope, he didn’t really miss her, he was lying.
“You had too much to drink Rafael, stop talking already,”
“How could you just leave me like that? You don’t call, you don’t do anything, do you really hate me now Nicole? Is that it?”
Rafael asked, Nicole knew he was drunk and talking like this due to the influence of alcohol.
“Just sleep it off Rafael, you will be fine in the morning, you are at home right?”
“Home? Where is home? I don’t have a home anymore Nicole, you left me,”
“I didn’t leave you Rafael, you are the one who broke things off with me remember? You are the one who asked for a divorce, who brought the papers and who signed it first,”
“Come back to me Nicole,”
“Rafael, stop it, just stop okay, you are not being fair to me right now, you are just thinking about yourself Rafael and it’s not fair, you might wake up tomorrow with no knowledge of this but I have to carry on with the false hope I am giving myself right now, it might take days or even weeks to forget this conversation while you won’t have a single memory of it,”
She let out.
“Nicole, I am going through a lot right now, can’t you just come to me today? I need you here,”
He said, she couldn’t ignore the sadness in his voice, thinking about it now, he might have called because he needed someone to talk to, she didn’t know what happened to him but he seemed to be having a hard time.
“Where are you right now Rafael?”
“At Jokers,”
“And you are alone? You shouldn’t be alone, you have people with you right?”
“Nope, I have no one, you left me, remember?”
He responded and she eye-rolled.
“No, that’s not what I remember, stop saying I left you, you were the one that left me, go home Rafael, and sleep it off,”
“I don’t want to, I am going to stay here all night long,”
He said, she hung up then, it wasn’t her business what he choose to do, he should never have got her involved, but then she realized the last time something like this had happened and it had landed him in the hospital, she didn’t want that to happen again, she hurriedly got off the bed, quickly changed to a pair of Jean and a top and ran out of the house with her phone in hand, she got into her car and drove towards Jokers, she honestly didn’t want to do this but she didn’t have a choice, if she doesn’t go to him and he gets into an accident like the last time, she would blame and hate herself for it, she would just get him home and go back home and pretend like this whole thing never happened, she was just doing an old friend a favor and that was it.
She found him looking all drunk at the club, he was alone and looked so lonely.
“Raf, why are you here alone? Why are you so drunk?”
“She came,”
Was all he said as he staggered towards her, she caught him before he could land on the ground, she looked around for his bodyguard or driver but there was no one, the idiot man has the ability of going off without them sometimes, she asked for the help of one of the staffs and they helped her get him in the car, she thanked them and drove out of the club towards their old mansion before remembering he didn’t live there anymore.
“Rafael? Where should I take you to?”
She asked, he opened his eyes and whispered a few words that she couldn’t make out.
“I didn’t hear you, Rafael? You better talk or I am going to dump you off on the road,”
She yelled hitting him hard enough to get him to his senses, long enough for him to input his new address in the GPS before going back to mouthing different nonsense, she drove towards the direction of the GPS and was surprised at how long it took them to get there, at first she had thought he made a mistake and had almost given up but continued, now she stood at the gate of a rather small looking house wondering if he had indeed given her wrong information, the house was so small compared to the mansion or the penthouse, she seriously couldn’t associate the house with him but then she saw Salvador, on the signpost, that was his signature way of stating ownership, she let out a sigh and got out of the car to begin the difficult job of taking him into the house.
“Why did you have to drink so much,”
She let out after successful dragging him into the house, it was a tug of war to get the password out of him, she wondered why he didn’t have any security, there was no way the security at the far beginning could cover the houses in the area, even though she hadn’t seen much houses, it looked like a reserved area.
Would you like to take a bath or do you wanna go to sleep?”
She asked, he wasn’t listening to her, she decided to get him some water maybe that will reduce the alcohol in his system, she had no idea if that will work, she wasn’t used to drunk people and had never been drunk but when she brought the water, he refused to drink.
“Nicole,”
He called out her name, she looked at him, whatever happened to him must have been so bad, she took her phone to check if she would find anything online but there was nothing, so what happened that he had so much to drink? he suddenly stood up from where he sat took off his shirt and looked in her direction, she swallowed at the sight of his body, the body she knew so well and at one point had been hers, she looked away and dropped her phone, when she looked at him again he was standing closer to her.
“Nicole,”
He whispered her name in a way that sent a trail of shivers down her whole body, she walked away from him shaking her head, she didn’t like the way he was looking at her.
