Rafael walked into his office feeling uneasy for some reason, the last time he had this kind of feeling something bad had happened and he didn’t like to think of that happening today of all day, today was the day he gets to know if he can successfully run his own good mine, he has put so much into this that if the plan doesn’t fall through he might not know how to handle the lost, this is why he hated to have to need approval to do something, people in power tend to play with your feelings, he just wishes they will let him do his thing in peace.
He tried to concentrate on other works but then Josie called, ever since after that date they have grown relatively close, they haven’t seen each other since because they were both busy but Josie made it a habit of calling him each day that when she doesn’t he does and it sort of became a routine.
“Rafael,”
“Hey, good morning Josie how was your night?”
“Cool, I wanted to ask if you will like to meet up later tonight, we haven’t seen each other in a while,”
He wanted to say yes, he really wanted to but he had so much now that he might not be the best company.
“I am sorry Josie, I can’t make it tonight, maybe some other time?”
“Alright sure, let me know okay?”
“Okay,”
He said and dropped the call, he went back to work and was immersed in it until a knock on the door distracted him.
“Good morning sir,”
Armani greeted as she entered his office, she looked sort of sad today, he remembered Caleb telling him they met and wonder if things didn’t go well, he hasn’t heard from Caleb since the weekend and that was unlike of him.
“Mani, what’s up, your face isn’t so bright?”
“I am fine, I just have a slight fever but I have taken some drugs,”
“Oh but a fever can’t make you look this sad, is it Caleb?”
He asked, she looked shocked at first but quickly covered it up with a forced smile, he should let her be, it was none of his business.
“I am sorry, I shouldn’t have asked,”
“No, it’s okay, I guess he must have told you seeing as you guys got a lot closer recently,”
“Yes he did and you should know that he is working hard to make things right,”
She let out a small sad laugh at his word.
“I don’t think Caleb and I can ever be together, our worlds are too far apart and I have a lot more to lose,”
“What do you mean?”
He asked, he knew she wasn’t talking about now but something like in the near future.
“Forgive me for saying this but you and your wife, you had a similar background or should I say you both have a lot of influence, when things didn’t work out, it was easy to break it off and she went back to her family and well you went back to work and yes people talked about it but soon let go and your wife seems to be doing well for herself right now and you are too,”
“I know all these, what does it have to do with you and Caleb?”
He asked wondering where she was going with all these details if only she knew just how hard it was for him to move on from the only woman his heart has ever beat for.
“The opposite will be the case if Caleb and I become a thing again, not to mention he is currently doing a business that is doomed to fail,”
“Why will you say he will fail? He won’t,”
He cut her off defending his friend, he was doing his best and he didn’t like her talking down on his efforts in his presence.
“I don’t mean to be offensive but that’s it and that’s what I told him when he told me his plans of leaving his parents, Caleb is not like you Rafael, I can call you that right?”
“Sure, we are talking as friends,”
“Thank you, see the thing is Caleb can’t do shit on his own and I already told him that, I am not about to go through another moment again, it was so hard to endure before, how much more now, I can’t do that, I have so much to lose, plus his family hates me, I can’t be with Caleb even if my heart wants me to, we have too much stopping us, his family being a major factor, I don’t have a problem with being with him and watching him build his life but his family, they messed up with my life before and I lost so much, I can’t go through that again, I just can’t,”
She said, he understood her now, Armani had too much on her plate, her sister was still sick and she was the one paying the bills as far as he can remember and there are two younger brothers who are both in Uni too, he was sure she also pays for their academy, that’s why he tried his best to pay as much, three times more than any assistant will receive in Florida.
“I understand you Armani, but I and Nicole’s case aren’t as easy as you think it is, I am having a hard time moving on from her, I mean she is the first woman I fell for and might be the last, it may look like we are both on top of our game but emotionally I am not fine yet, I still feel the loss of what we had, I don’t know about her, she seems to have moved on, I am just saying it’s not as easy as it looks,”
“And I am saying my case with Caleb will be ten times worst, let’s keep that aside that’s not even what we should be talking about, it’s shouldn’t have been brought up, I am sorry,”
Armani said looking worried again.
