“Good afternoon Rafael,”
His secretary Rose greeted as he walked into the office, ten days later, he had a meeting outside the office, when he had left, Rose wasn’t the one here, he had a lot of secretaries and two personal assistants, Rose just got back from leave and was looking good, she was his oldest secretary, in her mid-forties but you can’t tell unless she told you, she looks really young too.
“Welcome back Rose, good to have all my favorite workers back, first Armani now you too, I thought you guys abandoned me,”
“Why will I do that? I can’t work with anyone else,”
“Good, it’s good to see you here again, I hope you had a good rest,”
“Yes, I did, your wife is here,”
She revealed that was a shocker, Nicole? In his office, that was new, she never drops by not even when he asks.
“Natalie?”
He said when he saw her, he was sure that wasn’t his wife even though they had everything in common with her, he just had a feeling that this wasn’t his woman, first, she wasn’t greeting him like she used to do and secondly, her eyes, they didn’t hold the emotions that his wife’s eyes hold each time he looks at them, definitely not his wife but her identical twin who was supposed to be his wife, who had ran away on their wedding day.
“Wow, you can tell us apart? That’s so hard for people even our parents can’t,”
Natalie responded he smiled, happy that he didn’t make a mistake, he wondered what she wanted and why she came to his office as his wife.
“Welcome back, what brings you here?”
He asked gesturing for her to sit back down, she sat down and thanked him.
“I came to say hi, it’s been so long, and you have changed so much, I don’t need to ask you how you have been because I can tell you have been good,”
“Yes, you can say that,”
“I am sorry about what happened, I know it might be too late to apologize,”
“No need to apologize, Natalie, whatever you and your twin did got me the woman I love and I am thankful for that,”
He replied, he wasn’t going to act like he didn’t benefit from it if he had married Natalie he was sure all these wouldn’t have happened, he knew he wouldn’t have fallen for Natalie and would have gone with the original plan of taking her property, he knew he could never have what he has with Nicole with Natalie, it would have been deadbeat impossible.
“Is that so?”
“Yes, it is, so don’t apologize, I hope you can get back on your track, good luck,”
He said. she stood up to leave and he saw her at the door, just because they thought she was his wife, he went back to his office when she got in her car.
“Your twin dropped by at my workplace,”
He told his wife later that evening as they prepared for bed
“Wow, really? She said she had somewhere to go when we met but she never told me she was going to your office, she doesn’t really talk to me, I think she hates me or something,”
“I am sure she needs time to get used to everyone again,”
“I guess so,”
Nicole said, he nodded, he wasn’t sure why Natalie didn’t tell her twin but since she didn’t do or show any bad intentions, he was just going to assume she really wanted to apologize for deceiving him and running away on their wedding day.
“Yes, she came to apologize, I was surprised but I could tell she wasn’t you, one because you never visit my workplace even when I ask politely, two, she didn’t have those eyes,”
“What eyes? Nat and I have the same eye color, that’s not the best way to try and tell us apart, it will get confusing,”
“No, I am not talking about eye color but the emotions your eyes hold for me, she didn’t have those, and also, she didn’t seem as excited as you are when I am around, she just sat there, staring at the magazine even after I walked in, she didn’t even get up,”
“Huh, if she had done all that would you still have been able to tell us apart?”
“Yes,”
“That’s, a lie, even our parents can’t,”
“I am telling you that even if you guys are to wear the same clothes and everything I can still tell who is who, I know whom my heart beats for, and besides, how did you think I found out about you not being Natalie, someone who knew the both of you told me,”
He revealed, she looked at him in shock, he realized he didn’t tell her before, in fact, they have never talked about it.
“Who is that? I wondered how you knew but I guess I didn’t ask because I didn’t know how to ask.”
She replied.
“It’s James, he said he knew you guys when you were younger and he was sure I married you instead of your sister, of course, I didn’t believe him until I asked you and you just went, that’s when it all clicked.
“I don’t even know who you are talking about, I honestly have a bad reputation of not remembering people except we are really close,”
“It’s fine, James and I aren’t that close either, in fact until I met him in Hawaii, we didn’t see each other for years,”
“Wow, so I am the one who let the cat out of the bag, after all, if I had just denied it you might not have believed him?”
“Yes, but I am glad you did,”
“Me too,”
She responded.
“And I guess now we have to tell the truth right?”
He asked, that was the part he wanted done and gone already, he wanted the world to know her as his woman, he was tired of keeping shut when people address Nicole as Natalie.
“Yes,”
“It’s going to be hectic for a few days after the big reveal but don’t worry, because I am going to be here, if it gets too unbearable then we can just either travel far or maybe spend the next couple of months inside our mansion, just us, the staffs, and our baby,”
“God, what did I ever do to deserve you?”
“You helped your twin,”
“That’s not enough, you are too good for me,”
“I am just going to shut up because I can’t disagree since you won’t let me,”
He said and kissed her to keep his mouth shut…
