Chapter 19

Book:The Billionaire's Bartered Bride Published:2024-6-2

Rafael checked his watch for the hundredth time, his bride to be was late, over an hour late, he tried her line again but it still wasn’t going through, people were already seated, her parents were here too, everyone else was here except her and her sister, what the fuck was going on? He thought, pacing up and down in the room he had rented at the chapel. He just spoke to her parents and they couldn’t reach her nor her sister. What kind of game was the bitch playing?
“Hey, man any progress? The priest is starting to ask questions, have you been able to reach her?”
Caleb who was acting as his best man asked as he entered the room, Rafael bit his lips and shook his head.
“Nothing, I can’t get through to her, her parents sent someone to check the house but they aren’t back yet.”
He explained, hoping this wasn’t what he thought it was because if it turned out to be it, he would make her pay for bringing shame to him, he won’t stop until she crumble completely, her family and their business won’t be left out from his ruth, he would make her pay.
“What are you going to do? Seems like your bride decided not to show up,”
Caleb said and for some reason, Rafael felt he was mocking him.
“What do you mean by that? She will show up, don’t talk nonsense, and get on my nerves,”
He warned.
“Hey, man I am just stating a fact, she is more than an hour late, her phone can’t be reached what else do you need for you to know she bailed?”
“Just shut the fuck up Caleb, I need to think,”
“Alright, I will let you be, what should I tell the priest, dude is pretty impatient,”
“Tell him to wait, fuck it, I paid for his time, he better wait if he still wants to keep his chapel,”
He said dialing her number again, this time it was ringing, he silently prayed for her to pick up.
“You are ruthless man, don’t think of destroying a church and a priest of the highest, it won’t end well,”
“Shut the fuck up,”
He yelled at his best man who raised his hands in surrender, the phone was still ringing but the bitch wasn’t answering.
“Pick up, pick up,”
He said but the call ended without her taking it, he tried it again, he couldn’t face this shame, he would lose a lot if she doesn’t show up, he knew the media would already be blowing up due to her latest what more if she doesn’t show up, he almost gave up on her taking her call when he heard her voice in tiny over the phone.
“Where the fuck are you Natalie and why haven’t you been taking your calls? You are late?”
He fired at her, his best man standing up and walking close to him at his words, he waved him off pacing up and down in the room, she was talking but he couldn’t make out what she was saying.
“What are you saying? I can’t hear you,”
He yelled.
“I said I am on my way, I will be there in less than ten minutes, something came up,”
Hearing her say she was on her way drained most of his anger but she still had a lot to answer for and she better has a good explanation as to why she was late.
“Be fast, we are all waiting for you,”
“Okay, I am close to the church, tell my dad to wait for me at the entrance,”
She said and the call ended, he turned to Caleb who was looking at him eagerly waiting for him to say something, he smiled.
“I told you she will show up, help me tell her dad she wants him to meet her at the entrance for the match,”
“Okay cool man, you were right, I am sorry I jumped to conclusions, I will go and do my duties now,”
Caleb said and left, Rafael rearranged his tie and checked his reflection in the mirror, whatever made her late had better be believable, or else he wouldn’t take it lightly with her.
“Let’s go get married,”
He said to himself as he exited the room, he walked down towards the main chapel and was met by Anita, the lady who is Natalie’s bridesmaid, he had met her before when Natalie had introduced them, he couldn’t figure out why she made her the bridesmaid because it was clear they weren’t good friends, he didn’t care though.
“Anita,”
He acknowledged when she got closer.
“Rafael good to see you, you look good,”
“Thanks, where is my wife?”
He asked. They will be married in a few minutes so he could call her that.
“She just got in but the entrance of the chapel is blocked by newsmen and bloggers, she can’t enter,”
She revealed.
“What? What are my security men doing? Why did they allow them to get do close?”
“Well, I don’t know, I just know that your fiancee, oh I mean the wife is trapped outside and they ask me to come to tell you to do something, the crowd outside is no joke for real,”
She said shaking her head, she looked tired.
“Okay thanks, I am on it,”
He said and walked off while calling his chief security.
“What the fuck is going on Luca?”
He asked when he picked up.
“Sir, we have the situation under control now you don’t need to worry,”
Luca informed.
“Get my wife into the church this minutes and keep those hungry bastards off the gates, tell them I will sue them if they don’t behave themselves, and I mean every word,”
He barked out.
“Okay, sir, sorry for the delay she will be there soon,”
Luca said and he ended the call, he went to the chapel and beckoned on the MC to kick off the ceremony, there was no time to waste as they already waited a lot of time, they were supposed to be married by now, he waited for him to be called still looking out for when she would show up, when they said the groom should come in, he walked up to the alter with his best man following behind him, he stood and faced the crowd, they all looked curious, he didn’t know half of the people there as they were invited by Natalie and her family, the only people he invited were his business associate and staffs, he didn’t have any family members present, he didn’t have a family to begin with, after his parents died none of his extended family members had bother to pick him up and raise him, he had gone into foster care until he had turned sixteen and ran away, shaking off the useless thoughts, he concentrated on the present as they announced the entrance of his bride, he waited for her to enter, he couldn’t figure out what he was supposed to feel apart from the initial anger and frustration he felt when she didn’t come at the right time, he felt nothing, no excitement nor wedding rush, it was just like a normal day, just like signing a new business deal or acquiring a new property, that was what Natalie was, getting her means he would get access to her property and he would make good use of it, if anything goes wrong after they marry, he already got everything covered, the bitch had signed the prenuptial papers without reading through it properly and there were a lot of clause there that favours him, not his fault if she didn’t take her time, he did tell her to but she had said she trust him, he told her no one should be trusted but she had laughed it off and signed, at least he tried to warn her, the door open and his new investment walked in with her father.
“Yes, come to me,”
He whispered smiling, here comes his new achievement, of course, not her but the property attached to her…
