Even though the video was doing so many things to her, she still tried to keep her cool and smiled at Tom who was waiting to take her home. That very day, he decided to take her on a dinner date which further complicated things for her because she was eager to get home before her anxiousness bursts out in front of Tom.
Throughout the dinner, he was laughing and smiling more than usual maybe because he was anticipating the inauguration day and she tried her best to match his smile while trying hard not to pick on the food in front of her.
After a walk to the restroom, she decided to push the thoughts aside and just enjoy the time with him because there is a probability she would be resigning and fleeing to save his face on that day. He had worked hard for that day and she wouldn’t allow her own past ruin it for him. Since they have just little time before the inauguration, she will have to use them wisely.
She pressured him to go on dates with her every day, buy her things and also was unusually touchy with him. He was forced to ask her why she was so hyped but her reply was that she was happy to be with him each passing seconds.
They went on ice cream dates, coffee dates, shopping and finally a dinner date on day prior to the inauguration day. He pulled up in front of her house late at night after everything and she slowly reached for his hand.
“Tomorrow is finally the day. I hope and pray everything will work in your favor” she prayed with a wide but sad smile which made him concerned.
He was forced to ask if anything was going on with her but she just shook her head in denial while trying hard not to cry. She hugged him and clung to him for several minutes before slowly reaching for his lips for a kiss which he gladly gave her.
“If this becomes a success, I have a gift for you” he informed her and she asked what the gift was but he told her that it was a topmost secret he can never reveal until the time has come.
She went inside after reluctantly bidding him goodbye but she didn’t enter the elevator, she hid behind the huge door and watched his car roar to live before zooming off. She didn’t know when she ran after his car in tears but he was not looking at his mirror so he didn’t see her, she ran till her legs were worn out and she fell on the street.
Never in her life has she ever cried that much, her heart was shattering into pieces but there was nothing she could do about it because he would want to choose her instead of the position he had been working towards all his life and if that happens, she will hate herself the more for dragging him down.
After gathering the strength to stand up and head home, she met her mother who had packed every of their loads. She had earlier booked a flight for them to Boston, their hometown where she would hide for the rest of her life.
Earlier at the office, she had given a trusted friend her resignation letter and told her to help her hand it in after the inauguration. Throughout the night, she didn’t sleep and kept crying so much. Every memories they had made kept flowing through her head, everything in her wanted to run to him but she kept restraining herself, it was a sacrifice of love that she has to pay.
The following morning, she dressed up in the gown Tom bought for her earlier which was meant for the event and took pictures with it. She spammed Tom with the caption of her wishing him good luck. He couldn’t resist her beauty and called her to hear her voice, she lied that she was on the way when he offered to come pick her up because she was on the way to the airport.
She scheduled her break message to him to after the inauguration before getting on her flight to Boston and trashed the entire phone in the airport bin.
Back at the hall, everyone kept arriving at the company for the inauguration and Joseph pulled up in a well-tailored wine suit with a white shirt underneath. The smile of his face was wider than usual and one could tell that he has been exercising and taking care of his skin than usual before that day.
He marched into the hall and the employees all scurried to the side because of his picky attitude which might prompt him to declare every small thing as offensive. The chairman was also escorted in while the executives followed, they all greeted the chairman before they all had their seat.
Tom’s mom, Anita helped him knot his tie specially that day as she gushed at how hot her son was in the suit she ironed herself. After wishing him luck, she bid him goodbye at his car and left to finish up her chores.
Mr. Joe offered to give him a ride to the venue but he declined and told him that he felt like driving himself. All evidences he was going to use against Joseph was in the envelope sitting beside him so he was sure every of his plans would be a success.
He was halfway into the journey when he discovered that something was wrong with his brake pad all of a sudden. He wanted to stop the car for safety but nothing was working, before he knew what was going on, one of the tires at the back burst with a loud noise making the car unbalanced. He realized that the more he struggled with it, the more the damage on the car so he tried keeping calm until a truck appeared from nowhere and he lost control.
He crashed into the truck and his car summersaulted continuously three times before falling into a deep ditch. Thanks to the quick intervention of people, he was brought out and rushed to the hospital but he was covered in blood which clutching unto his phone that had Amber smiling in the pictures she sent that morning as the lockscreen.
After waiting for some minutes at the company, everyone kept grumbling about how Tom was running late and keeping others waiting.
“He’s just a mannerless bastard, how could he even think of making the chairman wait? I told you that he was never fit for the position but you insisted on giving him a slight chance. Can you see him now?” Joseph lamented from his end of the table.
His phone had been taken by the paramedics as he was being administered first aid to so all the calls that were coming in were not picked and after the several attempt to reach him and even Amber failed, the chairman declared that they should start without him.
All the executives Tom thought were behind him readily voted for Joseph who kept an evil smirk on his face throughout the voting process. The voting lasted for few minutes after the Chairman speech and Joseph was declared as the winner.
With a loud howl, Joseph stood up and clapped while laughing wickedly for his new achievement before mounting up the stage to give his inauguration speech. As soon as he was done, one of the Shellhouse Mall’s employee rushed in with tears in her eyes to announce Tom’s accident.
The hospital had called into the company after he was brought in and the staff went in to inform everyone as the news came on the TV. Some of the employees rushed to check him at the hospital when the HR announced Amber’s resignation, everywhere was busy and filled with confusion because everything was happening at a flash.
Anita was setting the fridge at home when the news about the accident came on. She didn’t know when she threw the food in her hand away and went to the hospital with her apron still on thanks to Mr. Joe who drove her there.
The sight in which she met her son was devastating, he was lying almost lifeless in his room when she came in. The doctor came in to talk to her after being notified of her presence and he was declared unconscious for now.
Joseph and Chairman Holland came by to the hospital to check up on him and when they heard he might never wake up, Chairman Holland instructed them to remove him name from his family register because he would not have a useless person as a son.
Joseph also declared his position at Shellhouse Mall vacant while also announcing that the mall would be scrapped soon, everything was working perfectly for him and it was the world he had dreamt of.
Anita went back home after two days to change her clothes and also packed some things she would need to nurse him at the hospital when she met all her belongings already packed to a corner.
“We were never wedded so we don’t have to go through the stress of divorce so take your useless son and get out of my house” Chairman Holland declared to her astonishment before throwing her a file containing a house deed.
“This is what I can offer you as compensation for cooking and cleaning my house for the past years” he added and with spite, she tore the house deeds right in front of him.
“Whatever made you think you can do this to me and my son will be the same thing to cause your downfall. I and my son will never go down like this and he is never useless, he will wake up and live his life even higher than he had done in the past. When that time comes, I will be here to show you the proof” she declared while crying bitterly before stomping out of his house with her luggage and she was called that Tom woke up already but with no memories of the past years.
He was a blank human paper.
