At the sound of her mother’s footstep approaching her room to check up on her, they split apart and bounced to the edge of the room where they both put on their clothes they took off in a flash. She placed the pictorial magazine on her dressing table in his hands as he pushed him into the chair and her mother came in at that instant.
“You should open the door if you are inside instead of making me go through the stress of passcode. Why do you keep stressing me?” her mother ranted and immediately her eyes landed on Tom, her lips folded itself.
She was not expecting to see anyone at home with her not to talk of Tom because she knew they had been in an argument for weeks. Her feet retracted themselves as she went back to the door as quick as she had come.
“You said you won’t be coming until tomorrow, why are you here?” Amber slammed her and she had no choice to but to stop and answer that the doctor attended to her quickly so she just thought about coming home instead of sleeping over.
“Ah I see! I will visit your room once I see him out” Amber assured her before motioning for her to go out but Tom stood up to greet her and ask about her health.
“As you can see, I am doing fine now so you don’t have to worry about me. Don’t bother to run away because I am here, just pretend I am invisible and enjoy your time” she responded and Amber countered immediately.
“What do you mean enjoy your time? He was on his way before you came in?” she shouted defensively which only made her mother snort.
“I never said anything” was her mother’s response as she stuck out her tongue before going out and closed the door.
Tom could only smile at the scenario in front of her and signaled to her that he should be on his way. She walked him down to his car and they both hugged each other tight before he zoomed off. As she went back in, a fresh breath of relief came out of her nose as she happily hummed and punched the passcode in only for her to meet her mother waiting for her in the living room.
“What are you doing here and not sleeping?” she screamed in horror but her mother only slapped her shoulder while calling her a sly snake.
“What did I do? I mend up with him like you wanted” she whined.
Her mother only went inside without giving her a reply but she was grinning, they coming back together caused her so much happiness that she could not even explain.
TWO WEEKS LATER
Everything was going well with their relationship and work ever since they reconciled and they were working tirelessly to get evidences. Thanks to the strong connection of Amber, she was able to lay her hands on the stock manipulation documents of Holland Chemicals, evidence of bribery of the officials and also link to the paper companies created for slush funds.
“Something insane is surely going on in the group” Tom exclaimed as he went through all the documents that was tendered to him.
He also got the list of executives that were ready to support Joseph and make him a chairman once he marries Stephanie. Days passed by as he tried raking the support of other executives to his side with the strong support of Amber who gave it her all.
Everything was set and he was able to gain most of the power in the group to his side as the inauguration day that was set by the chairman to make Joseph the president of the entire group was fast approaching.
About a week to the set date, Tom came to drop Amber at home after a long day of work and she met Emily waiting for her in front of her house. She wanted to ignore and walk past her but Emily clung to her and before she could even lash out at her, Emily dropped to her knees and started begging profusely.
Amber who was confused at her action had to step back for her a while in order to grasp whatever was happening right now but Emily only crawled closer, she was a crying mess.
“If you are here to apologize then you don’t need all these, I cannot say I have forgiven you but as you can see, I am busier than carrying all those past and ugly incidents on my mind” was what she said to her but Emily kept shaking her head and crying.
It was then she knew there was more to the issue at hand. Emily finally opened her mouth and the first thing that came out of her mouth was “Please help me”. At the mention of those words, she was not sure whether to hit her first or kick her out from her presence because she got angry from within.
The shamelessness of Emily was making her puke. She had never for once apologized to her ever since the issue happened between them, she even packed out of the house when she travelled without discussing anything with her. Whatever gave her the assurance that she would help her just because she’s crying for one was what she could not comprehend.
“Help you? Do you realize who you are talking to right now?” was her next statement but Emily ignored all that.
She only kept tugging at her clothes while holding her left ankle firm. All attempts of Amber to shake her off proved futile so she decided to pretend like she would listen to her first just so she could lessen the hold on her leg.
“Okay, what exactly do you want me to help with?” she asked and just as expected, Emily did let go of her leg but not her clothes.
“Please save me! Eddy is after me” Emily cried and Amber raised her brow in disgust. What does she want her to do with that? Why is she coming to her if Eddy is after her? Those were the questions she was about to ask her before Emily went on to explain her plight.
She scrambled to bring her phone out and scrolled to it for a while before playing the sex tape Eddy sent to her. At the sight of the video, Amber staggered to the back. What in the world was that? Why would anyone even do that?
“What is he planning to do with this?” she asked, her lips trembling as she managed to find words.
“He will release it on all sites if I don’t do what he says” Emily responded, trying not to hiccup or stutter.
Amber questioned further about what exactly Eddy wants her to do but she replied that he haven’t said anything except them coming together. That was the first time Amber would be hearing that they were not together anymore as Emily explained that she broke up with him when she caught them cheating on her and even had to run away because of him who kept threatening her.
“Come inside first, we have to be cool headed about this” Amber stated, finally inviting her inside.
Amber listened to Emily’s story about how manipulative Eddy was and how everything had affected her school. She went ahead to explain that Jamie and Mark were the ones that came to pick her from the house when she was half dead while she was away but Amber didn’t let all those touchy story get to her.
All she decided to do for her was help her get Eddy arrested before exposing the video in order to save her face. Things might have happened between them in the past but that didn’t change the fact that they were once friends who were close like a sister.
“I will have to involve our CEO in this because only his connections can make this work speedily. Are you satisfied with that?” she asked and Emily nodded heavily. She was up for anything as long as her video doesn’t get spread on the internet.
Amber promised to help her out before she finally left for the night even though Amber told her to wait till the next morning because it was late. The shame was too much for her and her conscience wouldn’t allow her sleep comfortably in the house so she declined.
The preparation they were making was so hectic that she didn’t have the opportunity to bring the issue up in front of Tom. They finally finished the set up four days to the set day and she decided to bring it up when they are on their way home.
She finished her work and went to the restroom to freshen up before leaving when a message dropped on her phone. Her phone fell from her hand as she opened it to see her own sex tape playing in front of her with a message from Eddy telling her to never show up at the inauguration if she doesn’t want to see the video on the hall’s full screen.
She had also fallen into his trap.
