“I didn’t need a superpower to know that you have kidney problems. It’s written all over your face!”
Charles was distressed. He didn’t think that there would be a nosy person even in the toilet. He had indeed gone to many hospitals for treatment – in fact, all hospitals in Spring River City – but it wasn’t any better. His wife also had a lot to say regarding this issue of his.
What most important was, it was something challenging for a man to speak about. He couldn’t simply ask around for ways to cure it.
So, Charles asked in a low voice, “Can you cure it?”
Brucille cleared his throat, “Of course, I specialize in this. I’ll put a few needles into you and prescribe some medication along with it.”
Charles grabbed Brucille’s hand, “I’m just letting you know that I’m the director of the Food and Drug Administration in Spring River City. If you dare lie to me, I’ll make you pay for it.”
“Mr. Wong, this is such an important matter. How can I make irresponsible comments? We’re both men, and I can understand your difficulties.”
“Can you really cure it?”
“Well, come to my wardroom. I’ll insert you a few needles, then I’ll give you a prescription.”
Charles was afraid that Brucille was speaking nonsense with him, so they exchanged phone numbers with each other. As they came out of the bathroom, they came across Aaron Liu, who was a urology specialist.
Aaron stopped them and said, “Mr. Wong, I’ll give you a detailed examination today. Also, I think we should try a different treatment for you.”
But Charles replied, “Dr. Liu, there’s an emergency at the department. I’ll have to leave first, but I’ll be back another day.”
Then, in fact, he followed Brucille to his wardroom. After being injected with a few needles by Brucille, Charles took a prescription and left.
…
Thinking that Tyrion should be awake, Brucille went to the wardroom next door, feeling rather uneasy. It was just as he expected, Tyrion was awake.
Brucille looked at Tyrion with a mixed feeling. If he hadn’t been reborn, Tyrion probably would have become a vegetative patient. Now that he came to think about it, Brucille considered it as paying off the debt on behalf of the original host for the body he was currently in.
“Dad, how are you feeling now?”
Tyrion, of course, felt better, but he felt bitter too. His comrade, Owen Yip, was so brave in the past. Who would have thought that his son would be such a spineless coward?
In order to keep his promise to Owen, Tyrion married Monique to Brucille. He didn’t ask for Brucille to be more excel than most people, thinking that living a normal peaceful life would be good enough.
However, it had been two years. Not only did Brucille not make any progress, but he also had gradually brought shame to himself and the Ching family.
Brucille had slowly turned into a man who lived off a woman and her family. And only Tyrion, who had been in the army, could understand the vexation and hatred he felt towards a weakling who couldn’t live up to societal expectations.
Tyrion let out a long sigh and mumbled, “I’m okay. But, judging from the situation, I won’t be discharged any time soon. We’ll have to ask Henric about it. Since you’re feeling better, maybe you should go home and clean up the house.”
“Okay, Dad. Then I’ll go back home first,” Brucille said, and he turned to leave Tyrion’s room.
Looking at his back, Melissa said with displeasure, “Dad, what do you think of him now? He almost killed you, but he didn’t even apologize to you!”
“No need to make such a fuss. I’m sure Brucille didn’t mean it.”
Since he had brought it to himself for insisting on marrying Monique to Brucille, Tyrion couldn’t complain about Brucille now.
After getting changed, Brucille exited the wardroom. He didn’t bother to think about the payment since he already knew that Tyrion used to be the assistant dean for the hospital. Plus, it wasn’t like he had any money.
Speaking of going home, Brucille found no keys in his pockets when he searched for them. So, he could only take a taxi to the place where Monique worked.
However, as soon as he arrived at the Neighborhood Health Service Station, he saw Monique being dragged into a Hummer by a few people. He hopped back into the taxi and asked the driver to tail them.
Meanwhile, it was nerve-racking for Monique to sit in the Hummer. She didn’t know that the patient she treated before, Pedro Ann, was the founder of the Ann Enterprise.
If Pedro was at the death’s door because of her mistake, she would be in big trouble.
…
Donald Chao, the dean of the hospital, was standing in front of the emergency room, and he was hot under the collar. When he saw Monique coming, he jumped to scold her, “Monique! Why are you so reckless just like your father?”
“How can you prescribe medications before finding out the exact illness of the patient? Painkillers aren’t something to take lightly of. And you should know that Mr. Pedro is the founder of the Ann Enterprise and has a pivotal role in it.”
Just in a few words, Donald shifted the blame to Monique. Meantime, Monique was very upset. She had registered for the hospital’s entrance examination to become a working doctor in it. If Donald had a low opinion of her, it would be impossible for her to pass the exam.
Monique felt wronged, “Mr. Chao, I thought it was just an ordinary headache -”
Donald scoffed, cutting Monique short.
Brucille also got off the taxi and came to stand beside Monique, and he asked in a low voice, “What’s going on?”
Although Monique was a little impatient, she still answered, “Mr. Pedro has a migraine, and I only prescribed him some painkillers last night. But now his condition gets worse.”
Unexpectedly, Brucille said, “Don’t worry. I’m here.”
“You?”
Monique thought he was joking.
Brucille stepped forward and said, “Mr. Chao, reprimanding Monique won’t help to cure the patient. Why don’t you let me in to take a look at him?”
Donald sarcastically retorted, “You’re that worthless son-in-law of Tyrion, aren’t you? Who are you to speak in medical situations? Don’t you know Tyrion retired because he almost killed a patient because of a wrong prescription?”
After his reminder, Brucille finally understood why Tyrion had retired early.
And he rebuked seriously, “Mr. Chao, I hope you can think things through. Whatever is going on with Mr. Pedro has nothing to do with my father-in-law. Please don’t involve him in this.”
Donald knew it was inappropriate to discuss the matter in this circumstance, so he replied, “Andie had just called the police. Since you’re the one who caused this, you can explain yourself to the police later. I’ve also asked for help from an expert in the Province Hospital. He’ll arrive shortly too.”
However, Brucille insisted, “Mr. Chao, I’d think that you have an ulterior motive if you don’t allow me to take a look at Mr. Pedro. Are you planning to put the blame on Monique after Mr. Pedro had passed away?”
He was quite blunt, and he angrily continued without a pause, “I believe Dr. Ching wasn’t wrong in her diagnosis, and Mr. Pedro definitely has some other illnesses. I’m willing to try.”
Upon hearing this, Donald laughed, “You must be joking! Didn’t you graduate from a technical college? If you think you can treat someone, what’s the point of so many of us going to the medical school?”
Seeing that things had reached this stage, Brucille could finally see that Donald had a prejudice against the Ching family, and he was trying to make things difficult for them.
Due to his status as the dean of the hospital, Monique tugged on the corner of Brucille’s shirt and brought him around, “That’s enough. Don’t you know you aren’t capable of anything? You’ve made enough mess for me.”
“You shouldn’t let this go. This isn’t your fault! What’s the point of putting the blame on yourself? Even if you agree with it, I won’t!” He said.
Monique’s eyes turned red from anxiety, “Enough! Since when I allow you to intervene in my matters? You think you’re a what? A superman just because you survived the accident?”
Hearing that, Brucille was about to implode with fury. He was frustrated to realize that Monique was simply unreasonable. She didn’t even trust her husband!
Brucille reminded them, “According to my assumptions and calculations, Mr. Pedro is very likely afflicted by other diseases. It has been dragged out for far too long. If he’s not treated immediately, he’ll be dead before the expert is even here.”
