The thing has made a huge sensation.
Avril’s agent, Serena, finds me and apologizes, “You know that Avril has always been arrogant. Could you forgive her?”
I smile politely at her and say, “I’m sorry, I don’t know. I never knew her before. How can I know her personality?”
Serena did not expect that I would answer back, and then she says timidly, “It’s her grandfather who spoils her? The Chan family is protective of their children. I am afraid that today’s event will disturb her father. I don’t think it good to let him deal with the matter in person.”
I know what she means. Serena is trying to suppress me with the Chan family. I know her identity from the beginning. If I am afraid of it, I would not make troubles.
“Mr. Chan?” I deliberately fall into the trap, and ask, “I really don’t know about it. Could you tell me more?”
Serena says weirdly, “Carson Chan is Avril’s grandfather. Did you get me?”
Of course. I surely know the Chan family and the Orlando family.
I laugh, “Of course. What do you want me to do?”
“You make a statement that it’s because Avril has two scenes but she couldn’t pass it, so she asks you to practice it with her, understand?” Serena arrogantly says, “When the gossip passes, you will get benefits from the Chan family.”
“I see.” I sneer at her, “Do you think I really do not know Avril? Do you think I dare not touch her? Now that I’ve done it, I’m not afraid of anything.”
“Good,” says Serena, “You’ve been fooling me!”
“It’s a shame that a lady should be taught to be so arrogant! I don’t know what’s on the mind of the Chan family. If she is my child, I will definitely take good care of it.” I stare at her.
She understands what I mean. The matter could only be suppressed by the Chan family, but Avril couldn’t avoid being scolded. It is such a shame for a rich family to cultivate an arrogant descendant.
“Well, I hope you remember what you said! Let’s wait and see!” Serena turns and walks away angrily.
I’ll see what you’re going to deal with me.
Now the gossip is in favor of me, which is exactly the opposite of what happened in the morning.
Avril is smart. She immediately issues an announcement saying that she and I are good friends, and the previous friction is practicing the film.
After work at night, a crowd of reporters gathered outside the studio.
As soon as I appear, a crowd of people gather around me and offer me the microphones.
“It is said that the reason for your friction is that you are practicing films. In fact, you have a good relationship, right?” The reporter’s question hit home.
I smile and say, “If they say we have a good relationship, then we might have a good relationship.” I have been a journalist before, and I deeply know that the answer would make them excited. This sentence is very meaningful, and I laugh meaningfully.
The reporter is immediately excited, “Can you say a little more?”
“It’s hard to define my relationship with Avril.” I say with a smile.
Just a few sentences are enough for the reporters to stimulate them to write whatever they want to.
James’s car is parked not far away, and I get a chance to leave with security guarding me.
“Are you the one that did all these?” James shows me the today’s hot searches.
“Yes.” I say, without hesitation.
James looks at me up and down. “You’ve really changed a lot. I wouldn’t even know you.”
“What’s the good of being coward?” I feel sore, and bow my head.
If possible, who would want to become like this? Everyone hopes that they can be angels, but things often go athwart. We are helpless.
“But whoever you’ve become, I would still like you.” James says. His eyes light up when he looks at me.
My heart jumps fast. He says these love words a million times, but each time they make my heart flutters.
The unhappiness of the morning has vanished.
When we get home, Ella runs to me, smiling, “Mom!”
“Mother, do you know where I have been today? Dad took me to the playground. Dad says it is my private playground! It is so great!”
Ella dances with joy and my heart is shaken again. If we are a real family, would we always be so happy?
“What’s on your mind?” James leans over me and puts his arm around my shoulder. His voice is husky and sexy. “Are you thinking that would it be good for us to live as a family?”
I look up, being caught off guard, “You…”
“Am I right?” James smirks.
I smile helplessly.
But what about the agreement? He won’t love me anymore one day.
The gossip worsens, and the result is that Avril’s violence can no longer be pressed, which forced her to open a press conference, and apologizes to me solemnly.
She is so arrogant as before, and so is Serena. How could they compromise?
“Are you satisfied?” says James suddenly, glancing sideways at me from time to time.
I know it’s James who is controlling the matter. He worries about me. Although his words are malicious and I make him unhappy, he still couldn’t let go of me. He is not willing to leave me unhappy.
When I come to the studio again, it is obvious that many people’s attitude towards me become kinder. Strangers come to get close to me, and acquaintances are more enthusiastic.
Avril, on the other hand, would do nothing except stares at me fiercely.
It’s true that James has helped me a lot.
When I am lost in thought, the mobile phone rings. It’s a strange number.
“Miss Carl, may I have a word with you? This is James’s fiancée, Salome.” The voice on the phone is soft and lovely.
I remember the arrogant and defiant look she looked at me when I first met her. So, what did she ask me out for today? To help her sister seek justice?
“OK.” I agree.
“Let’s meet at the cafe on New Road.” says Salome.
I arrive at the cafe on time.
Salome jumps to her feet when she sees me.
“Hey, Carl.” She looks at me nervously.
I raise my eyebrows, thinking that this woman is really a hypocrite.
Salome says apologetically, “I know what happened with you and Avril, but she did a really bad job. I’m sorry.”
“There’s no need for you to apologize.” I say, “She’s apologized, and I’ve accepted it. I’ll let it go.”
“That’s good.” Salome smiles.
I don’t know what she is going to do with me today.
She wants to say something, but hesitates.
I frown. “What do you want?”
Salome looks at me and finally says, “Are you really Carolina?”
Now I know why she wants to see me today.
“Yes.” I say.
“I know everything about you before.” Salome becomes upset. She looks at me with jealousy in her eyes.
“I have always thought that there is someone in James’ heart. His engagement with me is only a family marriage, but I want to know who she is, so I look into his past.” Salome looks at me in pain.
“And then you know all about me and him?”
Salome nods. “Yes, and at the same time I know he is never going to love me in his life, but…”
“There are so many obstacles between you already,” she pleads, grabbing my hand. “It won’t end well for you! Look at me! I’m the right person for him. I’m the only one who can help him stay where he is! Did you know that your last blow to Isabel puts James at a disadvantage! The best thing to do now is to let him marry me!”
She grabs me hard, and she looks at me with eagerness.
What am I going to tell her, saying that James and I aren’t really that in love, or that James doesn’t have to marry me and it is just his temporary possessiveness?
But I could not say these words, because in my subconscious, I want to get James’s love.
“I’m sorry, I can’t let him go.” I refuse.
Salome looks at me piteously and says, “I’ve really liked James for years. Can’t you just fulfill me? Please!” Salome prays to me.
I remain unmoved.
“Carolina! Don’t you know what you used to be? You’ve been married! You’ve hooked up with other men! You let your parents die! And you fall in love with the murderer’s son and gave birth to a child! Don’t you feel sorry for your parents? Don’t you feel restless every night?” She yells, pointing at me.
She is right. I am afraid that one day when I met my parents underground, they would lash out at me and accuse me. I always avoid my feelings for James, but I am so attached to him in my heart.
I love him.
“Yes, you are right, but I still love him. I will never leave in my life except when he drives me away! Isabel and I will be at odds forever over what happened to my parents, but it has nothing to do with James. I know it.” I’ve been venting my anger on him.
“Have you spoken your mind? Salome smiles at me. “You seem too selfish and complacent.”
“I will leave you with nothing.”
Salome gives me an evil smile.
I don’t know what will happen next, but I have a bad hunch.
That night, my whole life story is exposed, and even Neil, who is in prison, is exposed.
I’ve been married; I’ve cheated on in marriage; I am a single mom; I faked my own death, etc. All information about me has been exposed.
For a moment, I seem to lose all hope.
There is a good chance that, as Salome says, I will really lose everything.
