“So how do you know about today?” Zachary Irwin asked after he heard everything about Steven Irwin.
“After I saw the video of Mommy on the Internet, I followed the source of transmission to find the Internet cafe, then I saw the surveillance and knew that everything was uploaded by Alice Cox. After that, I checked Mommy and Alice Cox’s information and found that Alice Cox had everything blank, and Mommy did get a room today.
You go back to The Shine every day, it is impossible for Mommy to get a room, if she did, then someone kidnapped Mommy, only Mommy was forced to get a room, he could take those videos.”
After Steven Irwin finished, it was his turn to ask, “So, you guys tell me, who is that person? Why did he do this to Mommy?”
“You stay out of these things! Your job is to study and play!” Zachary Irwin knocks Steven Irwin on the head with a chestnut as he picks up Jane Gardner and heads back to his room.
Ignoring Steven Irwin behind him, who was screaming that it wasn’t fair and that he would find out.
Jane Gardner and Zachary Irwin return to their room.
Jane Gardner hung her arms around Zachary Irwin’s neck, her eyes closed as she felt his heartbeat, and she was glad, too, that Ron Lee hadn’t done anything to her.
Otherwise, she didn’t know how she would have faced Zachary Irwin.
But even if it really didn’t happen, she still didn’t dare to face him as she did before.
“Tonight, I want to sleep with Steven.” Jane Gardner saw Zachary Irwin’s burning eyes and she wanted to go.
Unwilling to force her, Zachary Irwin pulled her into the bathroom, helped her shower, dressed her, and sent her to Steven Irwin’s room.
“Good night!” He planted a kiss on her forehead and turned to go back to his room.
Jane Gardner watched Zachary Irwin go to his room. She didn’t go to Steven Irwin’s room, she simply packed her papers and clothes and left The Shine temporarily.
She was going to ask Lily Benz if what happened back then, was as Ron Lee said.
She also had to ask Lily Benz if she needed her to continue to make a match for her or not, given her condition today.
She couldn’t tell Zachary Irwin about the latter, and she still couldn’t tell him about it now.
Jane Gardner remembered the address Zachary Irwin had brought her to last time, and in the wee hours of the morning, she pushed open the door to Lily Benz’s hospital room.
Lily Benz was sleeping, she heard the sound, opened her eyes and saw it was Jane Gardner, her eyes startled, “What are you doing here?”
“There’s something I wanted to ask you.” Jane Gardner typed the words out and she turned to her, “Is my real father’s name Ross Lee?”
Lily Benz stared at the three words on Jane Gardner’s phone screen as if they had power and she couldn’t take her eyes off them.
“How do you know?” Lily Benz averted her eyes fiercely, and she met Jane Gardner with a complicated expression.
Of all her expressions, the one of hatred was the strongest.
Jane Gardner told Lily Benz all about meeting Ron Lee, and what he had told her, and she looked at Lily Benz’s still complicated expression, “Is it true what he said? Ross Lee has been cheating on you as a mistress, and even returned to his family and abandoned you and me after he knew you were pregnant! ”
Lily Benz held on for a long time, and finally, her eyes flushed, “Those things, if I could, I would never want to mention them again in my life! Jane, you go with mommy, let’s find a new place where no one can find us, and mommy will pay you back what she owes you these decades!”
Lily Benz knew that Jane Gardner had Steven Irwin now and could not leave everything behind to go with her.
But that’s what was in her heart. As soon as she heard that Ron Lee had found them and thought that Ross Lee would soon find her too, her first reaction was to hide, to run.
She hated him!
Hated him for giving her the oath and for cruelly and callously throwing his oath away.
She swore that unless she died, she would never see each other again in this life!
“So, it’s all true! I really am your illegitimate daughter out of wedlock with him.” Jane Gardner had always wanted to know who her real parents were, and then she learned about Lily Benz, and now she knew about Ross Lee.
She didn’t know what kind of feelings she should use to face her biological parents, and she closed her eyes.
1
She closed her eyes and opened them again, “How is your condition today? Do you still need me to make a match? I’ll get the doctor to arrange it right away.”
Lily Benz looked at the fading Jane Gardner, and the guilt she felt grew stronger.
She wanted to say something, but in the end she said nothing.
Jane Gardner was in the process of getting a match when Zachary Irwin arrived.
He looked at Jane Gardner, and his face was one of monstrous anger.
“After all this time, you never let go of the idea!” Zachary Irwin never expressed his objection to her going to save Lily Benz from the beginning to the end; what he objected to was Jane Gardner hiding from herself, hiding from herself, and going quietly.
“I’m sorry.” Jane Gardner’s reluctance to tell Zachary Irwin five years ago was to give them each a period of time in which she also happened to be there to save Lily Benz.
Five years later, she didn’t tell Zachary Irwin last night because she was afraid he’d stop herself.
“You claim that I don’t believe you, but you never actually believed me either.” Zachary Irwin smiled bitterly, he admitted that he had been wrong before, but when he saw her again after five years, he really held his heart to be with her.
He had also relearned a lot about medicine since what had happened to Steven Irwin, and he knew that a bone marrow transplant would not hurt Jane Gardner as much as he thought.
If she really wanted to do that, he would support her.
“Maybe, between us, there will always be something.” Jane Gardner staggered past Zachary Irwin as she took the report to Lily Benz.
Zachary Irwin watched Jane Gardner walk away a little, and he clenched his fists as he stood in the doorway, not following her in.
In the back, Jane Gardner’s match results came back and she and Lily Benz had a bone marrow match.
After Jane Gardner received the results, she went back to Dragon City to finish the few scenes left on the set before returning for pre-transplant preparation.
She knew she had a cold war with Zachary Irwin, but she didn’t want to go to him to make up. She knew in her heart that it had been so long and she wasn’t pregnant.
“Mommy, your heart hurts for Grandma, Daddy and I can understand, and we will not stop you from saving her, but have you ever thought about how sad he is when you don’t say a word to Daddy!”
Steven Irwin saw Jane Gardner coming to pick him up from school, and he came up to her with his little face all serious.
Jane Gardner knew Steven Irwin was mature-minded and capable.
She smiled bitterly; she was so involved these days, so involved that she was on the verge of forgetting her vows.
Ron Lee’s presence jolted her awake, and she remembered her vows to Ivel Day, thought of the promises she had made to herself.
She knew that she had been stalling for time, that she coveted Zachary Irwin’s embrace and would not leave him, but she could escape for a moment, not for a lifetime.
She couldn’t conceive a child, she was destined to be separated from Zachary Irwin, and since she had to be separated sooner or later, she could simply take advantage of the bone marrow donation to Lily Benz and leave him in name only.
These words, she could not tell Steven Irwin, she touched the back of his head, “When mommy is well, mommy will come to you, in the meantime, you and daddy get along well.”
Jane Gardner finished and asked Steven Irwin what he wanted to eat and what he wanted to play, she wanted to spend more time with him before she left.
“Did you come back this time to say goodbye?” Zachary Irwin got out of the car behind him, and he stared at her, his eyes hidden with an anger that no amount of suppression could suppress.
