CHAPTER THIRTY NINE
I wiped off the tears that had been falling freely down my face. I hate the fact that I’m torn in between two things I love the most. I kept running until I got to the end of the road. Now, I’m standing in front of the two paths.
“Either way you will have to lose one.” Daniel’s words echoed in my head and I gulped, trying to figure out what to do next.
Taking the right path would lead me to my Dylan, the man whom I treasured more than the entire universe and had more memories with. My existence was based on him and I couldn’t imagine another day without him let alone lose him forever.
Taking the right path, I will get to the pack house in no time, I will be able to warn the entire pack members and Derek will be able to help stop everything ahead of time. Speaking about time, I’m out of time! I barely have up to forty minutes to round up whatever I chose to do.
I shut my eyes remembering what Raymond had taught me, back then when we used to be together, he said we could find answers and solutions just by merely shutting one’s eye and thinking. My mind flashed back to Raymond but I am not sure I have much time to think about him. After a few moments of silence, I opened my eyes, a drop of tears escaped my eyes as I knew what was right to do at the moment and who I should save first.
************************************************
I’m a bit certain what the time is but I’m sure I barely have fifteen minutes left. I reached the pack house just in time as Derek was having a meeting with some business partners..
Everyone saw me panting and breathing heavily, the pains mixed with the loneliness I felt inside my heart.
I knew Dylan would be proud of my decision even after his death. The mere thought of him dying sent cold thrills down my body and I resolved if there is still extra time left then I would risk my life trying to save Dylan.
I would forever remain grateful to Daniel for what he did for me tonight and I would never be able to pay him back. I ignored everyone, hurrying up to the pack office and that was when some guards tried to restrict me from going further.
“He is having an important meeting and you won’t be able to see him at the moment.” The grumpy guard warned, from the look of things he was the chief officer on duty, I’m able to detect it though I have barely visited here before.
“Sir, it’s urgent. This is a matter of life and death.” I explained.
“Whatever it is can wait until he is done!” The man scoffed.
I pleaded further, my words choking as I thought about the little time I had left. Dylan was in danger, hell this man is making it more difficult for me, I say, anger suddenly overwhelmed me and I looked up to see his indifferent expression.
“Excuse me but I’m not letting you get in my way. I’ve come quite too far to be held back by you.”
I lurched myself towards the door in a swift action and fell right into his arms.
“Nice try, now will you leave or do you prefer being kicked out?!” That seemed like a command rather than a question. I gulped down, turning around to leave but my next actions surprised him.
I lurched myself towards the door and even though his arms were there to grab me, I managed to dodge him completely, causing me to push the door so hard, it flew open.
I raised my face excitedly. I had finally managed to get attention but my face turned blank the moment I saw he was nowhere to be found. It’s rather an empty room and before I could say Jack, the man caught me and started dragging me away.
“Let me go, Idiot!” I spat at his face but he didn’t let go.
I screamed unto my voice even as I was being dragged out causing Derek’s assistant to come out and check what was the matter.
The second she saw me, she flashed a quick smile and asked the guard to let go of me. She invited me into one of the rooms and asked a series of questions.
“I don’t have time to explain that we have to leave, and an attack will be launched any moment from now.”
“Derek is having a serious meeting, you can’t interrupt him.” she replied.
“Rogues have invaded our city.” I whispered in the calmest manner possible.
Sabrina choked as she laughed out, “and what do you know are rogues? Who told you about this my pretty human friend?” that certainly didn’t sound like a question, it was more of a reminder that I’m human and shouldn’t listen to a made up story but I’m certain about what I am saying.
“Sabrina, I swear I’m not making this up.” my voice cracked and I don’t know any other means of proving I’m saying the truth!
“I think you need to rest.” she speaks politely.
“We are all gonna die, I can’t watch that happen. They even took Dylan along.” tears raced down my cheeks and Sabrina held me down.
“Relax, rogues aren’t real and nothing has happened to Dylan, you just need to have a proper rest.”
I’m disappointed Sab thinks I’m dumb! I just told her about Dylan and she thinks I’m joking with something that involved Daniel’s life.
She was about to call out to one of the girls in the block to take me back to the pack when I stopped her.
“Give me one more chance to prove what I saw.” I pleaded.
“Kenzy please don’t make it harder than it should be.” I’ll talk to you later.
“He said it was time to visit his old pal Derek.” I blurted.
Sab’s face turned pale immediately as she took off her reading glasses and repeat herself.
I narrated everything that happened to me in the forest, she panicked and began calling Derek but he didn’t respond. Sabrina and I found our way near his conference hall and started waving towards him through the window
It takes a long while to get him out and explain everything, we all took the elevator down to make arrangements for safety but just when we are exciting the elevator my eyes fall on Daniel, he is holding Dylan like a prisoner, I gasped the moment I saw him dripping in blood and fumed at Daniel who held him like he was some kind if toy.
“Hello brother, it’s quite a pleasant honor to meet you again.” Daniel directed to Derek who had been shocked halfway to death.
