Friday snuck out to the bushes, the neighborhood was quiet and she was sure no one had seen her. A bang from inside Chief Colby’s car stopped her cold, two palms were visible on the backseat window. She quickly opened the door with the keys.
“Adrian?! Oh my God, are you alright?” one couldn’t express how relieved she was to find him alive. Adrian struggled to open his eyes, he nodded. “What happened to you? Where did you go?” she pushed Adrian into the car. “We have to get out of here, can you drive?”
Adrian looked around and realized he was back in Colby’s car. He looked outside and saw he was back where he started before everything went black. He shook his head, he couldn’t figure out how the hell did he get back into the car.
His vision was still blurry, he vaguely heard Friday’s voice telling him to get out of there. “Motorbike,” he said when he spotted a motorbike parked near the car.
Friday showed him the keys to the car, “We can take this car, Colby told me to take it and go to the island.”
Adrian stopped for a moment, trying to process the situation, he shook his head. “Motorbike … it’s best we go by that bike,” and then he gave Friday a big unexpected hug. Friday didn’t know what it meant, but she was glad. “If we leave … we might never come back,” said Adrian.
“I know.”
“I thought you were dead … you know, I found this in the stacks,” she took out the picture of Maduma. “She’s dead Adrian … we were talking to a dead woman.”
Adrian took the picture and read the description, shivers ran down his spine. She told him what Colby had said to her but the information was too overwhelming for him to digest. People were starting to come out from the estate.
“What? Where’s everybody going?” They observed from the car and saw people scurrying out of the place in panic, then they saw the garage door opening and armed men came out from there.
“We have to go now!” said Adrian, opening the car door and keeping his head down. He went over to the motorbike to look for keys but he couldn’t find one. He started to pull out the wires and attempted to do a shortcut on the ignition.
“I don’t think we have time for that, Adrian, they’re coming!” Friday was squatting beside him watching the guests go into their cars and fled. Adrian kept trying until the sound of police sirens caught everyone’s attention.
The men with guns stopped on their track and turned to run back to the mansion. He continued to fix the wires and then he heard the gunshots. “Oh no! Adrian, let’s go!” Friday was anxious. Just in time, the engine started and they mounted the bike.
When they were about to leave, they saw Jordan and Esmee came running out of the house. Colby followed not far behind them. “Jordan … Esmee …”
“We can’t take them, Adrian, we have to go now!”
They saw him too. They looked at each other for a brief moment, enough to tell them everything. Adrian took a sharp turn towards the exit, left a trail of smoke and the sound of the motor engine, speeding away into the night.
“My car! Get to my car!” Colby shouted at them to run towards his car.
“Bang!” a shot fired, Colby went down on the ground. His left shoulder was bleeding.
“Chief!” Jordan went back to lift him up.
“Go Jordan! You have to leave!” said Colby.
“You’re coming with us, Esmee get the door!”
The armed men were shooting at them, and police officers started to open fire. The place was becoming a warzone but they managed to get into the car and fled the scene. “Follow them!” Matt shouted at his men. “Stop firing! We need to follow them, get my car!” he continued.
“Put down your weapon and keep your hands above your head!” one of the police announced through a megaphone. They wouldn’t listen. A car came screeching down the lobby and blocked the police from viewing Matthew Cromwell Jr. getting into the car and told his driver to step on the gas.
