Liam was devastated. He couldn’t comprehend the fact that Amelia couldn’t remember him again. It felt like his world had crumbled, and his life had lost all meaning.
Lost in thought, Liam was approached by Elliot.
“Dude, I heard Amelia is awake now!” Elliot excitedly announced.
Liam glanced at Elliot and walked away in a slow pace, leaving Elliot confused.
“What’s wrong with him?” Elliot scoffed, ruffling his hair. He spotted the doctor and immediately went to meet him.
“Doctor, is Amelia okay?” Elliot asked the doctor, a bit worried about Liam’s expression.
“She is fine, but she doesn’t remember Mr. Scott,” the doctor announced before excusing himself.
“Not again,” Elliot groaned, quickly rushing to find Liam.
Liam was walking alone in the middle of the road, unable to believe that Amelia didn’t remember him again. He wished they had never gone to the party; maybe they would still be together.
“Why?!” Liam yelled out loud, drawing weird stares from people passing by, but he didn’t care about their opinions.
He couldn’t stop thinking about Amelia asking who he was.
“Who are you?” Amelia’s questioning voice kept replaying in Liam’s head.
“No!” Liam held his head, feeling overwhelmed by Amelia’s voice echoing through his mind.
He fell to his knees, gripping his hair in frustration.
“How can she not remember me?” Liam questioned, looking around aimlessly.
“Liam!” a voice called from behind, rushing towards where Liam stood.
“Get up, Liam,” Elliot said, helping him up and holding him firmly as he was unsteady.
“Elliot, she doesn’t remember me again,” Liam complained to Elliot, laughing slightly.
“She does, okay,” Elliot tried to calm him down.
“No, she doesn’t!” Liam’s tone took Elliot aback, but he quickly composed himself.
“Everything will be okay. She is going to remember you soon. The doctor…” Elliot’s comforting words were interrupted.
“Enough with your lies, okay? She doesn’t remember me, and she’s probably going back to that bastard,” Liam tugged at his hair, the thought of Andrew and Amelia getting back together causing him distress.
“No, she isn’t. She loves you,” Elliot tried to assure him.
“You know nothing, okay? Don’t try to make me feel better. Just leave!” Elliot frowned at Liam’s attitude towards him. He didn’t like seeing his friend in this weakened state; it wasn’t the Liam he once knew.
“You’re right,” Elliot calmly uttered, earning a confused glance from Liam.
“What do you mean?” Liam inquired.
“You were right about her going back to him,” Elliot said through gritted teeth.
“What the hell?” Liam sneered, looking at Elliot in disbelief.
“Why wouldn’t she go back to Andrew? He’s her rightful boyfriend, so what’s the problem?” Elliot scoffed, pacing around Liam, who was seething underneath.
Liam couldn’t believe what Elliot was saying. He had always known that Elliot had no heart and didn’t care about anyone’s feelings except his own, but he had never been this rude or heartless towards him.
“What are you saying, Elliot?” Liam managed to let out, his heart already aching, feeling a sharp pain in his chest.
“I’m saying you should compose yourself. This isn’t the Liam I once knew. I can’t believe you’re here crying over a girl leaving you for another man,” Elliot scoffed, glaring at Liam.
“You don’t know how it feels to lose the one you love,” Liam’s words pierced Elliot’s heart like a knife.
“Really?” Elliot scoffed, fighting back tears that threatened to fall.
“Yes, you’ve never cared about anyone. You know why? Because you don’t have a heart. That’s why you don’t understand how I’m feeling right now!” Liam barked at him.
“You’re right, I don’t care about anyone. You know why? Because I’m too heartless to ever care about anyone, okay?” Elliot’s voice carried the pain he had been bottling up.
“Elliot, I didn’t mean what I said. It’s just…” Liam began to explain, but Elliot cut him off.
“Save it, okay? I don’t want to hear it. I don’t care what you think about me, but all I said is for your own good. Stop crying over her if she doesn’t remember. So what?” Elliot blurted out, not wanting to see Liam suffer and damage his heart further.
“If I want to cry over her or anyone, it’s none of your fucking business, okay?” Liam barked, gritting his teeth in anger.
“Fine, stay here and cry yourself to death. I just want you to know that if you die tomorrow, Amelia will move on with Andrew like nothing ever happened!” Elliot barked back, drawing attention to their heated exchange.
“Elliot!” Liam pulled Elliot by his collar, his fist clenched and poised to strike. But he stopped himself in mid-air.
“Go ahead, hit me, Liam. I dare you. She doesn’t remember you, so get a hold of yourself!” Elliot yelled out.
“Enough, Elliot! I’m warning you,” Liam’s eyes darkened as he fought the urge to punch Elliot in the face.
“You can let your anger out on me. I don’t care. You can punch me if you want to; I still don’t care. But I won’t let you slowly die because of a stupid bitch!” Elliot’s words hit Liam like a punch to the gut. He couldn’t bear to hear hurtful words about Amelia.
Elliot stood up from the ground, laughing like a maniac as blood oozed from his nose.
“But she is a bitch,” Elliot’s words slipped out of his mouth as he laughed.
“You’re a psychopath!” Liam’s lips quivered as he approached Elliot, his fist still clenched tightly.
A stranger suddenly appeared, stepping in front of Liam and blocking him from getting closer to Elliot. The stranger wore big nerdy glasses and regarded Liam with a judgmental gaze.
“Hey, why are you hitting this poor guy?” the stranger demanded an explanation from Liam about his actions towards Elliot, whom he referred to as the “poor guy.”
“I didn’t mean to…” Liam began to explain, but Elliot chuckled from behind, bewildering both Liam and the stranger.
“Poor guy?” Elliot raised his head, causing the stranger to gasp. Before the stranger could react, Elliot’s fist connected with his face, sending him sprawling to the ground. His glasses fell, shattering into pieces.
“Who the hell do you think you are to interfere, huh?” Elliot barked at the trembling stranger on the ground.
“Elliot, what do you think you’re doing?” Liam pulled Elliot away from the stranger, preventing him from inflicting further harm.
“I apologise for his behaviour,” Liam said to the stranger on the ground, extending a hand to help him up. Then, he quickly pulled Elliot along with him, leaving the scene behind.
“You’ll pay for that, Elliot Givosky,” the guy muttered, picking up his broken glasses. He watched as Liam and Elliot walked away, their paths diverging, with Elliot pushing Liam away and walking faster.
