Ariel POV
“Why didn’t you tell me, huh?” He asks as he tucks the strand of hair on my forehead, behind my ear, and I find myself blushing hard. It feels so good to know that this man really loves me, it feels so good to have him around me. I guess I can say that I’m the happiest woman on earth right now.
“Nothing… I didn’t want to…”
“Make it look like you’re asking for sex, huh?” He hushes as he stares into my eyes like he wants to see through me, and I gulp down the sudden lump that forms in my throat. I feel my breath hitching, and as I stare at his lips, I suddenly feel like kissing them, because why not?
“I’m sorry for neglecting you, Ariel. I won’t ever do that, and I promise. I will make sure I care for you and our baby, ok?” He assures me as he leans forward and plants a soft kiss on my forehead. Gosh! That felt so good.
“Are you not going to the office today?” I ask him, and he sighs briefly as he pulls away from me.
“Yeah, I have to. I don’t know what to do. I have an important appointment this morning, but I can’t leave you here either. I have to stay by your side,” He sighs with confusion written all over him.
“You don’t have to worry about me… I will be fine. You can come back as soon as you’re done with the meeting if you so much want to stay by my side,” I reply to him, and he nods his head.
“Alright then. I will tell the doctor to help me look after you while I’m away. Call me if you need anything. What should I get for you on my way here?” He asks as he strokes my hair, but I just shake my head. Isn’t it enough to see him?
“Just come back soon,” I whisper to her, and he nods his head before he stands up and strides out of the ward, closing the door behind him.
Barely five minutes that he left, my phone starts ringing with Alex’s name displayed on the screen, and I answer it immediately.
“Hey, I came by your office but you were not around. Where are you?” His voice sounds through the phone as soon as I answer the call.
“I couldn’t make it to the office today because I was sick and had to go to the hospital,” I utter, and I hear him gasp.
“You are sick? Why didn’t you tell me? Are you ok? Which hospital? I want to come to see you right away,” He sounds worried, and I roll my eyes.
“You don’t have to…” The call disconnects while I was still talking.
“What happened to him?” I mumble as I drop the phone on the bed, and sigh briefly.
Many thoughts wouldn’t stop parading in my mind, but the most important thing is getting married to Max soon. I mean, that is the only thing that matters to me right now.
‘What is he planning? Does he wants to start sleeping with me?’ I ask myself as I manage to sit up on the bed, and just the imagination of having him on my bed makes me so excited, I mean, why not?
Still lost in thoughts, the door suddenly bursts open, and I snap my head swiftly to see Alex inside.
“Wha… what… I mean, when… Sorry, how did you know I am here?” I stutter since I don’t even know the question I should ask him. I mean, we talked barely ten minutes ago, so how come he’s here already?
“Oh, look at my poor friend,” He whines as he hurries over to the chair beside the bed, and sits on it.
“Ugh! You are always like this… I’m fine,” I roll my eyes at him, and he sighs briefly.
“I got you something,” He utters before he shows me the bag he has been holding.
“Did you fly here or something? It’s barely ten minutes since we talked on the phone, and you are…”
“I will do anything for you, my dear. I wanted to drop this for you at the office before I leave for mine, but you were not there, so I thought it wise to bring it here since you are in the hospital,” He finally hands over the bag to me, and I check it to see packs of chocolate inside.
“Thank you,” I smirk at him, and he nods his head.
“What’s wrong with you, by the way?” He asks after a long silence, and I glance at him.
“It’s nothing serious, so I’ll be fine soon,” I reply to him, and he slowly nods his head.
“I have something to tell you, Ariel,” He utters after another long silence, and I tilt my head to look at him.
“What is it? Is there a problem? You don’t look fine,” I ask him, a bit worried.
“Never mind… It’s nothing. I was just teasing you. Get well soon, and come back strong, ok?” He giggles as he ruffles my hair, but I am not convinced, because it’s written all over him that he really has something to say.
“Hmm… Thank you,” I slowly nod my head. I feel a bit guilty that I can’t even tell him that I’m pregnant with his brother, I feel bad that I can’t tell him that I’m going to marry his brother soon. Won’t he feel bad when he finds out later?
“Uhm… I think I need to head back to work now. I’ll see you later,” He utters before he stands up and strides out of the ward, leaving me alone here.
I sigh briefly as I empty the bag on my body, and a piece of paper fell from it.
“What is this?” I mumble as I pick up the paper and unfold it. It’s a letter from Alex.
‘Hey, friend. Where do I start? I don’t really know. Although we have known each other not long enough, but you have been the best friend anybody would want to keep forever. I know I’m annoying sometimes, but I want you to know that I do really love you so much, and want us to be by each other’s side forever. If I do anything to hurt you in the future, get mad at me all you want, but never cast me away, or hate me for any reason because I won’t be able to bear it. From your friend, Alex.’ I finish reading the letter, and a drop of tears slid down the corner of my cheek. It’s the first time someone is ever going to tell me this, and I feel so emotional right now…
