Ariel Williams
Dragging myself into my room tiredly, I plunge myself into the bed and sigh in relief. It was just my first day at work today, and I feel so exhausted. It was nice working in the company, and I’m glad that I’m already coping with the teachings that the system has been offering me. Whoever programmed the system must be a pro at this. I mean, it was so detailed and I didn’t need anyone to explain anything to me.
The sound of my ringing phone pulls my attention, and I glance at it before reaching out to it lazily. A strange number displays on the screen, and I pull a puzzled look as I wonder who must be the owner of the number. I was warned strictly not to converse with anyone aside from Max and his wife, so I never bothered to give any of my colleagues my number, even as one of them requested for it. I watch the phone ring and the call drops dead, but barely two seconds passed before the phone starts ringing again with the same number displayed on the screen. I finally answer the call this time.
“I thought you weren’t going to answer the phone,” A strange masculine voice sounds from the other end, and I check the screen of the phone again to be sure of who the person is.
“Who is this?” Confused, I inquire.
“My bad. This is Alex Dante, the guy you met at the meeting earlier today,” His voice sounds through the phone again, and my eyes almost pop out of their sockets. I didn’t remember giving my number to him, so how the heck did he get the number? I was still going to call him anyway. I mean, I have never seen him anywhere before, and the way he called my name earlier keeps getting me curious to know who he is.
“I thought you wouldn’t call me when you get home, so I took your number from the company’s file,” He explains, and I sigh briefly. Wow! I didn’t know that this is how a company works.
“How about we grab dinner together after work tomorrow, huh? Bills on me,” He demands, and I can’t help the scoff that escapes my throat.
“I won’t be free…”
“Oh, come on,” He cuts me off, and I run my fingers through my hair. I just returned from work and the best he can do for me is to leave me the hell alone to get some rest. Why’s he pestering me? Now that I think of it, isn’t he bearing the same surname as Max? It can’t possibly be that they’re brothers, right? And the way the two of them spoke to each other at the company today, it can’t be just the relationship between workers or business partners. They were too acquainted.
“I’m not interested,” without waiting for him to say another word, I click on the ‘end’ icon, and the call drops dead immediately. Dropping the phone beside me on the bed, I drag my feet up and walk sluggishly into the bathroom to have my bath before I get some sleep. Stepping into the bathroom, I close the door carefully behind me and strip out of my clothes.
‘Come on, Alicia. How can I be in love with her? She’s just our breeder and nothing special. I promise you that she’ll leave after she gives birth’ those words still hurt her so much even though it’s the reality. Maybe she’s getting hurt because she’s expecting too much. Maybe she’s losing it because she allowed her emotions to get the best of her.
Staring at her reflection in the mirror, a drop of tears slid down the corner of her cheek as she rubs her hands on her flat stomach. Her baby is barely three weeks, another human is growing inside her. While growing up, she thought she’ll eventually get married to her prince charming and bore him kids, she thought that she’ll have a grand wedding like every other normal woman would dream, but turns out that all those were just wishes that were never meant to come true. If they were meant to, she wouldn’t have ended up with that monster that sold her out, and to think that her mom was in support of it, she feel so broken and betrayed.
Wiping the tears from her cheeks she sets to have her bath which only lasts for twenty minutes before she walks back into her room, and wears her casual clothes. Her wardrobe is already filled with many clothes that Max got for her a couple of weeks ago, and the shoes that he also got for her, they’re all pretty. She glances at her reflection in the mirror for the last time before she turns around and ambles out of the room, closing the door gently behind her. She walks down the hallway and soon descends from the grand staircase with her shoes making noise on the tiled floor.
Walking her way to the kitchen, she fetches some food from the pot and put it inside the microwave as she waits patiently for it to warm. Leaning her back against the counter as she throws her head back and stares up at the ceiling, the sound of the door that just opened pulls her attention, and she looks in the direction to see Max standing with just short trousers on. She gawks at his perfectly toned abs, and she gulps down the sudden lump that forms in her throat. Her mouth drops open as her eyes feast on his firm nipples and broad chest. Although she has seen him naked a couple of times, she can never get used to seeing him like this. She can’t always resist admiring his perfection each time she sees him. Everything about him is just so perfect and appealing.
“Ariel, you’re here?” He finally breaks the awkward silence and disrupts her dirty thoughts. She finally raises her gaze to look at him, and damn! His face even makes her drool at him more. His thick eyebrows are what she never gets tired of admiring, and the spark in his innocent eyes is everything to sweep any woman off their feet. Why’s this man not hers? Why does she have to be just his breeder, and nothing special?
“Hmm,” She nods her head as she turns her gaze away.
“What’s that smell?” He suddenly sniffs, looking around the kitchen with a questioning look on his face, and realization dawns on Ariel that her food is already burning.
“Oh my God! That’s my food,” She laments as she quickly collects the food from the microwave, and thankfully that it’s not yet burnt beyond edible.
“You should be careful next time. We’ll be going for a meeting dinner date tomorrow. I’ll send my stylist over to take care of you. We’ll be going together,” He announces to her, and she just nods her head.
“You should get some sleep early. Good night,” He smiles at her before he turns around and walks out of the kitchen, while she just stares at him until he’s out of her sight…
