Staring at her reflection in the mirror, she sighs for the umpteenth time and tucks her hair behind her ear. It’s going to be her first day at work today, and she feels awkward. She hasn’t done this before, and neither does she know how it works. She never imagined that she’d ever get to work as a secretary. Of course, she knows that the job wasn’t given to her because of her qualification, but she’s still confused about why Max would do that. Even if he wanted to help her, he could’ve gotten her a job somewhere else, right?
Taking a deep breath, she finally picks up her phone which Max got for her a couple of days ago, before she ambles out of the room, closing the door gently behind her. Her heels click on the floor as she walks along the hallway, and soon, she descends from the staircase. She looks extremely beautiful in her black suit which reveals her curvy shape. Her thick black long curled hair is falling freely over her shoulders with some strands resting on her forehead. She has very light or no make-up on her face.
She walks elegantly into the living room, hoping to find Max waiting for her but she only found a note on the center table. Picking the paper, she glances through it, and turns out that Max had left the note to tell her to take a cab to the company. Here she was, thinking that he was going to drive her there.
Dropping the paper back to the center table, she strides to the exit door and pulls it open, making her way out afterward.
A few minutes later at the company…
Max checks his wristwatch for the second time and sighs briefly. He is having an appointment with a client in less than twenty minutes, but he won’t be able to leave without Ariel, and here he has been waiting for her and she doesn’t seem like she’s going to show up anytime soon.
The sound of his ringing phone pulls his attention, and he reaches out lazily to his phone that’s just lying on the desk. It’s his best friend, Nathan.
“What do I owe this early morning call? I hope I’m safe?” He asks as soon as he answers the call, and a soft masculine chuckle sounds from the other end.
“Let’s have dinner tonight. Got something to discuss with you,” The masculine voice says from the other end, and Max rolls his eyes.
“Alright. See you later then,” The call drops dead afterward. The sound of the knock on his door pulls his attention, and he ushers the person in while having his gaze glued to the screen of the computer.
The sound of the heels clicking on the floor pulls his attention and he raises his gaze, but his mouth drops open in shock at the sight that welcomes him. For some seconds, he finds it difficult to believe that this is the same woman that has been living with them. She looks super gorgeous.
“I’m sorry for arriving late, Sir. I got stuck in the traffic jam,” She explains, trying to be as polite as she can. He’s her boss, so she couldn’t have called him by his name, right?
“Wow!” His mouth curves into an ‘oh’ as he stares at her for a few seconds.
“Sorry, but… You… What the f*ck! I don’t know what to say,” He bites his bottom lip as he stares at her curvy shape. He never knew that she could be this beautiful. He’s not a perverted mind, but seeing her standing there with her perfect body, he can’t help the desires that suddenly build in him. This woman is driving him crazy, but he just has to control himself.
“Uhm… Is there anything wrong?” Confused, she asks him and he shakes his head.
“Your office is right outside. The system has already been programmed to teach you everything that you need to know. You’re only going to be learning some things this week, and you can resume work fully by next week. Call me if you need anything,” He explains to her, and she nods her head.
“One more thing, we’re having a meeting in less than twenty minutes. We’ll be going together,” He further says, and she nods her head.
“Alright, Sir. I’ll keep that in mind,” She finally turns around and strides out of the office when she’s sure that he has nothing else to say.
Thirty minutes later in the meeting hall…
She watches as Max speaks to someone on the phone, as he stares out of the window with an angry look on his face, and she can’t help admiring his elegance. He’s perfect the way he is, he looks cute even when he’s angry.
“When are we going to start this meeting? We have been waiting for five minutes and nothing is happening. I have another place to be, please,” A young man in his mid-fifties snorts angrily after he glances at his wristwatch.
“I’m sorry, Sir. The meeting will start shortly,” Ariel quickly plead with the man. The meeting was supposed to have started already, but it seems like they’re waiting for someone, and probably they can’t go ahead without the person.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Turner. We’ll start in five minutes, please,” Max begs the man after he drops the call. He has an angry look on his face as if the person he was talking to over the phone, pissed him off.
“I’ll give you another five minutes, and if you don’t do anything, then I’m out of here,” The man slams his hands on the desk, and Max nods his head. If not for the bastard that has kept them waiting since this man wouldn’t have dared talk to him in this manner. It’s not his fault anyway.
The door suddenly opens, and a young handsome man walks in elegantly.
“Sorry for keeping you all waiting. I was stuck in traffic…”
“You!” Max snorts at him angrily as he clenches his fists. Maybe he would’ve punched him hard in the face if his client isn’t here, but he’ll save it for later.
“Let’s start the meeting already. It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Turner. My name is Alex Dante,” The young man says to the man politely as he pulls out a chair and sits on it. Turning his attention to Ariel that’s sitting just opposite him while having all of her attention on a file, he squints his eyes. He has seen this face before, but he’s finding it difficult to recall where he has seen her.
The meeting kicks off immediately, and it lasts for an hour before Mr. Turner finally left the company.
“What was that nonsense about, Alex?” Max slams his hands on the desk as soon as it’s just the three of them in the hall. Alex Wilfred is Max’s younger brother. He’s just thirty-one years old and the CEO of Alex enterprise.
“Hey…” Ignoring Max, Alex calls Ariel instead and she raises her gaze to look at him blankly.
“Have we met before?” Alex asks still trying to recall where he knew her from.
“I… don’t think so,” she drawls confusingly.
“Like seriously? You did something wrong and all you can do is ask my secretary if you’ve met before?” Max fires at him again, and he rolls his eyes sarcastically.
“It’s not that serious, Max. Just take a break already,” He stands up to his feet and glances at Ariel for the last time before he strides to the door and pulls it open, but he stops abruptly as he finally recalls where he’d met her before. She was the woman he had run into at the hospital a few days ago. Gosh! How could he have forgotten so soon?
“Ariel Williams…” Alex calls as he turns around, and Ariel snaps her head to look at him confusingly.
“You don’t remember me, I guess. You’re beautiful, and I think we can be friends. If you’re curious to know how I know your name, then let’s hang out when you’re free. Here’s my card,” He walks over to her and drops his card on the desk in front of her while having a smirk dancing at the corner of his lips. Max stares at him unbelievably…
