Her business

Chapter Eighty-Four – Her business.
Lucy groaned, snatching the letter from her mailbox. She didn’t even know why she still had a mailbox.
Her friends were still playing this prank of mailing her letters? She promised herself not to read any but maybe reading them and replying will make them stop.
“Worst part is, I don’t even know who is doing this?” Lucy sighed. She had friends but since her life tumbled down, they’ve not been very friendly.
She closed the door to her house and fell on her couch, tearing the letter open. “This better be a good joke.”
However the first line of the letter didn’t seem very funny at all. “Lucy David. We have your mother.”
Lucy closed the letter and smiled. What was this about? Another type of prank? She wasn’t really in the mood.
There was no name on the letter and it was black and plain, holding only it’s written contents. Was this a threat?
Or were her suspicions right and her mother was actually being forced to commit these crimes?
“I should read more to find out but honestly, this isn’t what I need now.” She stretched her legs, trying to ease out the stiffness. “I need some good sleep, right now.”
She reopened the letter and read all it’s contents with a straight face. It wasn’t very precise, like a child’s note.
When she was done, she realized two things.
One, her mother must have committed a crime she was being blackmailed for. She hadn’t been kidnapped or anything. Two, since that was the case then none of it was her business.
The summary of the letter was the sender asking Lucy to cooperate with them in leaking information about Arya and the Wades and also getting close to know their next steps.
Lucy already had a lot going for her so she working as a double agent won’t be happening. This had nothing to do with her. “My mother committed a crime, she should pay for it.”
Also, Lucy was almost sure the sender wasn’t serious with the ‘If you don’t comply, we’d return your mother in pieces.”
Lucy no longer searched for her mother, after she didn’t answer her calls days back. She had also heard the call that sent Arya to the house that nearly killed her.
Her mother sounded very convincing and not like she was being forced to do what did. In other words, her mother was working with the culprit. Lucy didn’t want any involvement.
She could say her life was looking like a normal twenty-one year old girl’s would look. She didn’t want it ruined – all she needed now was a boyfriend, not a murder case.
“I’d act like I didn’t see this. However, I will inform Arya that my mother did something she’s being blackmailed off. I need them to know I’m not with her.” Lucy spoke to herself.
Perhaps she should give them the letter itself? It’d be better proof that the sender tried to hook her up but she didn’t yield.
“Alright then, to hell with all distractions!” Lucy said, getting ready to visit the Wade’s Company.
(At the University)
It felt like it has been a month since she was at the University but it was only five days ago. Arya found Winx at the front and hurried towards her. She was allowed to attend classes today so she wouldn’t miss out much.
Halfway there, her dress got hooked on a chair. She frowned, staring at it. “Hey babe.” The guy on the chair smiled at her.
Arya would have preferred if he helped her get the dress out of the chair’s grip instead. “Oh, hey.” She freed herself.
She ran to where Winx sat but the boy besides Winx wouldn’t stop looking at her. If her memory served her right, he had been staring at her since she walked through the door.
Was there something on her face? She didn’t want to smile at him or make him acknowledge she could see him.
“Arya! Longtime. I saw your text though.” Winx chuckled.
“And you didn’t reply?” Arya ignored the guy’s look.
Winx noticed her being uncomfortable and turned to the boy, who then looked away. “Anyway, you’re looking gorge today, as always. I haven’t been sleeping well for a week straight.”
Arya looked up at Winx. She was looking gorgeous? It wasn’t all the time that Winx threw compliments at her.
Could it be why she had been getting more looks and chats than normal? First, the school security had greeted her and wished her a good day.
She thought it was weird that he noticed her for the first time that day when she always walked past the gate before.
And then the glances some guys she walked past gave her.
She smiled at them and they smiled back, a totally unusual occurrence for her. And then the guy that stared when she walked in, then the chair guy who called her ‘babe’.
Did she glow up after the explosion? Or was it because she had been living in peace and eating abundantly? She hasn’t been worrying about bills for a while.
Being married really had it’s perks and Damien was treating her well. “This is really tempting me to stay in this marriage.”
Her eyes widened and she placed her hands on her lips. What did she just say? She wanted to stay in the marriage?
What about Seth? She was forgetting about him? Was that a good sign? It should be, but then instead of thinking of Seth, she thought more on… Damien?
“This is weird.” She said out loud.
Winx glanced at her. What was weird? She hadn’t asked about her relationship with Damien but since she knew she stayed around him, she hoped things were working out.
The lecturer walked into the class and the noise died down. Winx was still looking at Arya, trying to figure out the expression on her face. “Damien is okay, right?” she asked.
Being asked about Damien while conflicting over him startled Arya, she gazed at her friend with wide eyes before giving a firm nod. “He’s fine. Everyone is doing fine.”
Winx looked away smiling, she didn’t know what was going on but she knew her friend was enjoying the marriage.
At least, she wasn’t complaining about Damien, neither was she babbling about Seth. “That’s good to hear.”
