Chapter Seventy-Nine – Movies.
Arya couldn’t remember the last time she laughed so hard, and cried so hard. The movie her sister gave to her were romance comedies that brought different emotions in her.
They were also really sad tales amongst them but she didn’t agree to how most of them had ended.
“Why does the handsome guy end up with the girl? Why not the smart one? He’s not a nerd, he’s just smarter than you!” Arya fumed as the second male lead had his heart broken.
She slammed her laptop shut and frowned, glaring at space. “The bad boy always win, right? When he was clearly abusive to her in the first place, huh?”
Arya couldn’t get why abusive male leads were a trend. They didn’t seem compatible with the calm shy girl yet the girl always fell for them?
Like she wouldn’t mind cold guys who act uninterested at first but the blatant violent ones were a no-no.
“Do red flags only happen in real life?” she asked herself.
Her mother and father marriage might be identical too. Even if she couldn’t remember her father being violent with her mother, it was really clear he never cared about her.
Their marriage was just a contract and her father’s mind was always on Aunt Jenna. It was more disgusting when such things happen in real life than in movies or stories.
There was a knock on the door of Arya’s room. She exhaled before rushing to answer it, still murmuring about the heartbreak of the second male lead.
“Connor!” she yelped excitedly.
He smiled and peeked into the room. “Damien is home, right? He said I should meet him when he gets home?”
Arya shook her head, “He’s not home yet.” She walked out of the room, her laptop still in her hands. “I took some movies from my sister, you might like them.”
Connor turned to her. “I might really like them? Are you sure I know what I like? I didn’t like that grim reaper stuff.”
Arya chuckled. “I know, I just…”
“And that outfit might have been some bad luck for me. Death came knocking at the door soon afterwards.” Connor added in a displeased tone.
Arya paused, and her smile died. Death really came knocking for them? Could it be the curse of that outfit?
“You are right. You should throw it away. You are too young to die.” She said. “I’m really sorry for buying that.”
Connor nudged her lightly. “You are too young to die too. And that was a joke, a costume can’t decide my fate. Not in this world or the next.” He walked past her to the living room.
His tone certainly didn’t sound like he was joking but Arya brushed it off. There was too much going on in their lives so they shouldn’t be thinking of bad omens.
“Fast and Furious, all movies. I have it here. I bet you’ve not see all of them, have you?” Arya said proudly.
“I’ve watched all.” Connor clapped back.
Arya frowned. “All? Well, have you seen all the John Wick movies?” She asked again.
“I have seen all.” Connor replied with a smirk.
Arya was getting frustrated. He has seen everything? She spotted another movie and smirked. “Have you see the latest Spiderman…?”
“There’s no Marvel movie I haven’t watched up to three times already. Try me.” Connor chuckled.
He was unbelievable. She gave up. “Well, they are some not-so-popular action movies I have here? Wanna see them?”
Connor laughed loudly, seeing her defeated face. “Actually, I’m not big on action movies, except Marvel and DC movies. I only watch mainstream ones because of my friends.”
That was quite honest. Arya shrugged. “That’s all I got. You wouldn’t watch romance with me, will you?”
The scowl on his face said it all. Arya nodded. “Okay. I don’t get why boys don’t like romance movies though.”
“Actually, I wanted to go out again.” Connor said, looking at the ceiling. “I just want to know why Damien asked me to meet him before moving out.”
Arya rushed to his side. “Moving out? Didn’t you hear what Debby said yesterday? She will be after you as well…”
“I don’t think so, actually. She has threatened us this far so we should at least give her the fact she’s smart. She wouldn’t openly attack me again after yesterday.” Connor assured.
Arya rubbed her temples. Debby could be smart but she was also unstable. She might be upset about the failure of her last plan and decide to launch another.
Connor would be a victim again. Arya wouldn’t bear if he got hurt while she was the target. “I really think you shouldn’t do this. Damien will surely think so too.”
“He doesn’t police my movement.” Connor looked away. “And where I’m going it’s more or less a public place.”
Arya glared at the young man in front of her? He wasn’t listening to her, was he? “Where is that place then? If you meet your friends you could put them in danger too?”
“I’m visiting my mom’s graveyard, that’s all.” Connor replied, he rubbed his temples and sighed. “It’s been a while.”
Arya was rendered speechless. She sat down quietly besides him. He was visiting his mother? He never really spoke much about her, except that she died when he was eight.
She assumed he was young then so didn’t have many memories of her. While she slept on the night of the explosion, she had suddenly remembered her own mother.
Her mother died of illness and she had come to terms with her death, but surprisingly she found herself crying over it.
It must have been because she escaped a near death experience herself. “I’m really sorry I made you… I mean, you remembered your mother.”
“I never forgot her. It’s just she had died in a fuel spillage explosion. Not only her though, my nanny at that time.” Connor narrated. “I feel like I nearly died like she did.”
Arya’s breathing became heavy. That was a horrible thing to experience. Dying by explosion. Burns and the horrible sounds. She would have been so afraid.
“I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.” Arya murmured.
Connor sprang to his feet. “Well, I didn’t tell you to feel guilty. It’s just something everyone in the family knew.”
The way he said it made Arya feel like part of the family again. She needed to begin acting the role immediately.
“Also, don’t be scared of Debby. You challenged her to a battle of wits, right? I don’t know what you’d do but be open minded about things. Don’t fear.” Connor advised.
Challenging Debby to a battle was just Arya, trying to keep taking so Debby wouldn’t attempt blowing them up again.
Or at close range, using the pin she held to make holes on her body. She had no idea what to do to win.
“Well, for now, I’d just stay indoors and hope Debby gets caught. Wouldn’t that be better for me?” She shrugged.
“Well, it’d be better not as fun as taking up her challenge.” Connor shrugged as well.
Arya shook her head. “Nothing will Debby will ever feel fun to me. I just want she and her problems to disappear, that’s all.”
