Chapter Thirty-Five – Heartbreak.
Arya didn’t understand how Lucy suddenly changed and actually cared about she and Anna. But she was glad she did.
She glanced at Damien and frowned. “Are you really going into the building? Why not let the police do their job?”
The idea of him going along didn’t seat well with her, if all those stories and deaths he spoke about actually happened.
Damien’s smiled. Was she worrying about him? He was helping her sister, wasn’t he? “Don’t worry, as long as Anna’s safe…”
“You should be safe too, you know.” She retorted. “The police are trained in these stuff. I don’t advise you to go.”
His smile widened but he looked away. She was really worried. And he’d like to listen.
But as Lucy said, if the kidnapper was at the company waiting for her or Lucy, then, even if he escaped, they’d be a clue he’d leave.
That clue might only be recognized by someone who knows Anna and be able to tell why she was kidnapped. In short, he had to be there with the police to identify the clue.
But if he tells her that his reason for wanting to be there was because of her cousin’s idea, she could misunderstand him or become jealous, if she saw him in a romantic way.
“Don’t worry, I’d wear a bulletproof vest and take safety measure. I’d only get into the building when it’s safe.”
Arya was still displeased but she sighed her worry away. She understood someone had to be there. Her mind pondered on who could have actually taken her sister.
Her sister would surely have enemies, like jealous coworkers and all, but none could pull such stunts.
“Try calling James. Is he aware that his girlfriend had been kidnapped?” Damien asked.
Arya shook her head. If James was her sister’s boyfriend then he should know but he hadn’t been formally introduced to her so she wouldn’t be the one calling.
“Call him. I didn’t even know they were dating till few weeks back.” She said.
He nodded, taking out his phone. “Ahh, right. You thought Anna and I were a thing.”
Arya’s face redden and she looked down quite embarrassed. It wasn’t a farfetched idea. He was rich, masculine and definitely her sister type. Maybe they didn’t just click.
“He isn’t picking up. He’s in the military.” Damien said.
Military? Arya smirked. Her sister really liked masculine men.
“I’d drop you at home then go get the police. Don’t worry, your sister would be safe, okay?”
She nodded. “Thank you. But just drop me by the junction there. I’d head to my flower shop first.”
Damien’s eyes widened. She had a flower shop? There was a lot about her he didn’t know. She bowed down and thanked him when he dropped her. He waved before driving off.
A sigh left Arya’s lips after he left. His presence no longer made her giddy and they could be on the path to friendship.
She started the trail down to her shop. Her phone began buzzing and she answered it. “Hello, Winx.”
“Girl, you left me and went home?” Winx asked, with a sulky tone.
Arya made a little pout. “I’m sorry, my math test was really bad and I was pissed. Also, my sister… ”
“Seth and Edna broke up!” Winx declared.
Arya’s breathing hitched, she changed the hand that held the phone and smirked. “They did?”
“Actually, it’s what everyone’s saying but for the first time ever, I called Edna and she isn’t picking up so I guess it’s true!” Winx cheered. “I heard he caught her cheating on him.”
Arya’s hands clenched in both annoyance and pure joy.
Why would that prostitute not change her ways if she was already in a relationship with such a sweet guy!
“Good riddance to bad rubbish!” Arya responded.
She felt the need to call Seth. But what would she say? Then it clocked, the meeting Damien wanted her to have with him concerning his company.
But she frowned again, when she remembered that it would also expose that she was married to Damien.
It was finally her chance to get close to Seth after his heart break but her married status was holding it back?
“No, I’d meet him first and console him. I’d keep the company issue for later.” She mused within herself.
“Girl, are you there? Or are you planning a party?” Winx chuckled, bringing her back to reality.
She folded her arms. “You have no idea how much this news makes me glad. I need to meet Seth…”
“Whoa, whoa! Easy girl! Don’t jump on him just after his breakup. It would look weird.” Winx advised.
Arya nodded. It would, so she might have to use the company issue again to get into him. “Well, I actually need to talk to him about Damien’s company and meeting his dad.”
Winx gasped. “Oh that. But can’t you can do that later? He might not be in the mood.”
“He needs someone… I mean, something to distract him. So I’d help.” Arya replied, turning back to the road to get a taxi.
Her friend began laughing. “I know you, Arya. Go get him girl. But be neat. Or else Edna could say things like he’s the one who cheated. That girl could be a bitch sometimes.”
Arya nodded then hung up after that. She vigorously began flying down a taxi. It was her chance.
Kill two birds with a stone. Get closer to Seth and help Damien with his company. Everything would work out.
When she boarded a taxi, heading to the government’s house that Seth would most likely be at, she sent a message.
“Hey, Seth. I left school earlier today and forgot to say, but can we talk? I have a business prospect I wanted to discuss, related to your dad and all. Reply soon, thanks.”
She exhaled after hitting the send button and her eyes stayed glued to her phone expecting a reply.
Within ten seconds, a beep came and she smiled.
“Hey, Arya! I contemplated calling you, lol. I wanted to talk too. Business prospect? Okay. I’m at the government house.”
Her heart was beating rapidly. He had contemplated calling her to talk while suffering a heartbreak? That was a good thing! “On my way.” She texted back.
The taxi dropped her in front of the big building, three minutes later. She swirled when she got down and paid the driver. “Okay, let’s do this!”
