Chapter Thirty-Four – Dear God.
Lucy gulped down the whole cup of alcohol.
No matter how much she wanted to snap out the bad habit, she found herself going back to it when she felt down.
How could her cousin marry such a classy man? Then her other cousin was in a healthy relationship!
How was she so unlucky! “Waitress, another one!”
The elderly lady glared at her as she asked for yet another bottle. “I hope she can pay for all these she had been taking!”
Lucy heard the lady and sighed. Even pathetic old ladies made fun of her. She banged the cup on the table, getting up.
“Hey lady! Do you run your mouth with your customers?” she pointed at the lady. “How dare you look down on me!”
The lady retorted. “What? What did I say?”
Lucy advanced to the lady and slapped her hand on the table. “You think I didn’t hear you? Do you know who I am?”
But she was a nobody. Just a young frustrated delinquent who was trying to get back on her feet.
The lady looked scared but didn’t attempt apologizing. “Go away from here! I’m getting your alcohol.”
Lucy looked down, feeling utmost hatred for her own self. She took out money from her bag and paid for all the drinks. “I don’t need more. Here is the payment for the ones I had.”
The elder lady watched her, stunned, and wondering if she just lost a customer because of her big mouth.
Lucy left the bar and exhaled, looking to the heavens. “Dear, “God, I know I don’t deserve it but could one good thing just happen to me today?”
Her phone beeped at that point and she picked it without looking at who it was. “Yes, hello?”
“Lucy! Meet me at Dublin companies, I have a surprise for you! And come alone, okay?” it was Anna’s line.
Lucy stared at the phone in disdain. Since when was she and Anna friends that she’d call her with such happy tone and ask for her presence?
“Get the hell out of my phone bitch!” she hung up.
She shook her head, stomping to her car.
As she got in, she remembered the prayer she just made then the call that came afterwards.
Was it the answer? Was it a good thing about happening?”
She dialed Anna’s line again. “Hey, what do you wanna…”
“Lucy! Meet me at Dublin companies, I have a surprise for you! And come alone, okay?” Anna interrupted her.
Lucy nodded, “Sure. But I don’t really know the place. Could you direct me?”
Anna’s line hung up.
Lucy frowned. Was it a mistake? She dialed Anna’s line again.
“Lucy! Meet me at Dublin companies, I have a surprise for you! And come alone, okay?” came again.
It was beginning to get suspicious to Lucy. This was a pre-recorded voice note, that was playing on call.
“This isn’t Anna. You are just repeating one line no matter what I say. Who has her phone?” Lucy asked.
Anna’s line cut immediately.
Lucy tried dialing but it didn’t pick up. She groaned.
Had her cousin been kidnapped? Why did the kidnapper call her? Now she was involved somehow. She couldn’t turn a blind eye no matter how much she disliked Anna.
“Or was this God answering my prayers to have him in my life? With Anna out of the way…” Lucy smiled to herself.
She started her car and began driving off, her smile slowly faded when she felt heavy in her heart. So was she going to allow her cousin to be harmed because of that?
“What if I alert Arya instead? Maybe telling her could repair our enmity and if I ever need monetary help, she and her husband could provide.” Lucy thought.
Her car slowed down by a park and she came down. Maybe her help would come in monetary value. That was better than what she initially thought. At least for now. She called Arya.
“Hey, Arya!” she used a bubbly tone to greet.
Arya glanced at the number that called and then at Damien who was driving besides her. “You changed your number too? And why are you calling me Lucy?”
“Oh, well, Anna called me recently.” Lucy said.
Arya sat up straight. Damien glanced at her and mouthed. “What?”
“Anna, my sister? She called you? What did she say? Is she in trouble?” Arya bombarded Lucy.
Lucy’s forehead creased. Why would she think Anna was on trouble? Did she already know she got kidnapped?
If she did, then there was nothing important she was telling them. She didn’t also know where Anna was kept.
But she had to make them indebted to her somehow. “Um… yeah, Anna called saying something about Dublin companies.”
“Oh my gosh, don’t go in there. I went there recently but I saw nothing. She isn’t there.” Arya warned, her breathing became heavy.
Damien felt sad seeing his wife like that, he parked his car. “Take it easy Arya, I’ve already called some friends. They’d find her.”
Lucy smiled, hearing Damien’s sultry voice. She licked her lips and contributed. “Yeah, Arya. I think I should really go to the Dublin companies.”
Arya’s eyes widened. This her cousin was annoying but never stupid. What was she saying? “I’m telling you, it’s dangerous.”
“So is ignoring Anna’s plea. She called me and sounded serious. If the kidnapper wants me there, I’d be there. Maybe he’s there so I’d go with some police men or something.”
Damien tilted his head, thinking of that. It could work. For the kidnapper to try to want Anna’s sister and cousin there, it’s possible he wants to take them hostage as well.
“Arya, give me your phone please?”
Arya handed it to me and had a pouty expression on her face.
“Lucy?” Damien called the caller.
Lucy eyes widened hearing his voice. Has she really gotten to them? “Oh, yes please.”
“Please, don’t go to Dublin companies. But your idea is good. I’d go myself with policemen and see if we’d find anything.” Damien explained.
Lucy smirked. “Yeah, no problem.” She never planned to actually go anyway. “And be careful. Search the whole building, you’d surely find something.”
Damien nodded. “Sure, thank you. If we do, we’d let you know. Goodbye for now.”
Lucy made an ‘hmm’ sound before hanging up. The smirk on her face widened to a grin. Since they’d let her on the know, she’d stopped worrying and await their call.
She got into her car and drove out of the park. “Dear God, thank you for this jackpot!” she snickered to herself.
