Chapter Twelve: Miserable Thirteen.
Damien looked out of the jet window. The pilot announced they’d be dropping soon and he heaved a sigh of relief. Those thirteen hours were the most depressing and challenging for him.
He wanted to be there with his bride but he couldn’t miss the meeting. He went through everything to arrange a wedding but had to postpone it as he won’t be there.
Why did she want it immediately? How exactly was the summit important to her than her own wedding? Or didn’t she take it serious?
Even as the jet was about landing, Damien still felt like turning back and being the one to wed her but it was too late.
It seemed also she didn’t mind or she wouldn’t have postponed it. The thought alone pained him.
“Sir Damien, we are here.” A small lady tapped his arm.
He looked up at her and she blushed. “We are here, sir.”
He sighed. “I can see that.”
She looked down and left.
He sighed again. He shouldn’t have let Butler Jim at home and deal with new butlers that acted shy around him. He’s already a married man. That thought made him sad and happy at the same time.
He came down from his private jet and inspected his luggage, they were complete. “Let’s go to Nirvana hotels and get this meeting over with.” He said to his driver.
The new butler rushed to open the car door and when he got in, she rushed to seat besides him but he stopped her. “You sit in front.”
She blinked furiously then calmly sat in front. The driver gave her a glare before starting the car. “These ginger girls.” He mouthed as he started the car.
It made Damien smile as he knew his driver had an indifference to ginger head girls as all his exes were ginger heads. They seemed to be his type as he kept on dating them.
The new butler rolled her eyes at the driver and tucked a part of her ginger head behind her ear. The car started and they were soon at Nirvana hotels.
“Dismiss all calls from my mother or sister. I’d be out in about twenty minutes.” Damien told the driver, handing him his phone. The butler eyed the phone expectantly but looked down when she wasn’t given.
Damien rolled her eyes, she could be a creep or a thief. It was her first day at the job, he wasn’t trusting her. “Let’s go.” He ordered, making a head start. She followed behind him.
Just as he was about cornering into the meeting room, a high pitched scream stopped him in his tracks. A smile came to his face as he swerved turned, behind him.
“Debby! Are you here for the meet….” He grunted, stepping back as the teenage girl bumped into his stomach, tightening him in a hug.
Three other teenagers followed behind her but only made respectful bows when they saw him. “Debby, you can let go now.” Damien whispered to the girl.
She quickly retreated as her cheeks were red. “You finally arrived. What pilot drove you? That took thirteen hours! You should have been here by a hour ago!” she ranted, with pouty lips.
He sighed, seeing a glimpse of his sister in her for a minute. Debby Chan was a young genius amongst his engineering team but apart from things related to engineering, she was quite dumb.
“You really expect me to arrive from US to China in an hour? That’s plausible.” He teased, pinching her pouty cheeks, making her smile. “Anyway, are you here for the meeting?” he asked again.
He followed her eyes trail and saw it was glaring at the new butler besides him. “Um… butler Jim couldn’t come.”
“I see.” Was all she muttered, giving the girl a dead look. It brightened up and she shook her head. “I’m not here for the meeting, that’s adult thing.” She looked at him.
“Okay then, I am here for the meeting so see you when I’m out. I’d be paying a visit to your parents.” He headed to the meeting room.
“Sure.” She chirped. “And I’d be packing my things. I’d be following you back to the US!” She squealed.
Damien froze. “What?” he snapped his head back but she’d already ran off with her friends. He sighed. That wouldn’t be happening, he wasn’t bringing a big baby with him to his new married life.
“Stay out here, please. ” he told the butler and she nodded, this time not blushing. He exhaled and knocked, he walked in on getting a response.
The meeting was finalized within thirty minutes, and as Damien walked out, he wondered if it was worth missing his wedding and flying thirteen hours for.
He brushed the thoughts aside when he saw the butler waiting. “Thanks for waiting, hope you found a place to sit?” He looked around for a nearby chair.
He saw none then met her gaze with a questioning look.
“I am a professional sir. I don’t mind standing for thirty minutes.” She smiled courtly, not flirty.
He appreciated that. “Alright, we’d be heading back to the plane so you can rest.” She nodded.
His phone watched beeped and he peeked into it. There was a text from Dean and Anna. What could possibly be wrong? He opened them and stopped moving.
“Okay, Dam but your sister can be a bit TOO MUCH. I arrived late at your home to take a pics with my sister as the court wedding was EXCLUSIVE but then her dress was RIPPED and DUSTY cos she had to walk home! Your sister also made her TRIP. Like am I missing something here? Does Selena have a problem with me cos she doesn’t know my sister! I’m on my LAST FUSE!”
Damien facial expression changed anytime he saw a word in capital letters. He could imagine and hear Anna yelling and that was not good, it was never good.
He couldn’t even begin to fathom what kind of spicy dish Selena must have eaten to give her such a mood. He knew she was usually a bitch but not to cause such damages. A frown rested on his face.
He was scared to open Dean’s message but relaxed when he saw it. “Hey bro! Congratulations on your marriage! Meet me and the boys when your back from China. We need to celebrate. Whoo!”
“Get the pilot ready please.” Damien ordered the Butler and she bowed and strolled off.
He went around searching for Debby to explain that he wouldn’t be seeing her parents. His house was about to go down and Selena with it.
“Looking for me?” he heard her chirpy voice behind him.
He turned with a fake smile but they faded. “Why are you with so much luggage?”
“I told you, I’m coming with you. My parents approved.” She replied.
“No, you can’t…”
“For the summit. I’m attending the summit.” She hurriedly added.
He paused, staring at her “You are already part of the engineering team. The summit is for new engineers.”
“I… um… I wanna help you handle those newbies.” She chuckled nervously.
“Or you want a free trip to the US.” He sighed, taking her luggage with him.
“Yeah.” she shrugged, and happily tagged along with him as they headed to the plane.
