After a minute he throws himself back on the bed. “You better leave or I am never letting you go to my mom.”
I laugh. “I would like to see that. You know she would storm in here and drag me out.”
He laughs too. “Actually, since you would be naked she would drag me out buck naked and yell at me in front of the whole pack. I think I have been chastised by my mother enough to know what she would do. She is a fiery redhead for sure.”
I stand and leave the room with Darius watching me walk. I think he has issues. Now I am not saying that I like Darius, I am saying that I have accepted this relationship that we have. I’m stuck until he says anyway, and the way he makes it sound, he is never letting me go. There are times that I like things that Darius does. Like a few days ago he got me flowers. A couple of days before that, he took me to dinner, he made it really romantic. He does these romantic gestures from time to time. I like them, it makes me feel like I actually have a mate that cares.
I guess I am getting used to him. To the whole thing. I am treated like a real family member for once in my life. Well at least that I can remember. My parents died when I was so young I don’t really remember any of that time.
I walked into the Luna’s office, she asked me to come here so she is usually waiting for me. She smiles up at me. “Sorry I am late.” I return the smile.
She waves it off. “Don’t worry about it. I know how Darius can be. I am surprised I didn’t need to come get you.” She laughs.
I laugh too. “You almost had to.”
She shakes her head. “Just like his father.” She sighs. “Alright, so this ball. I have most of it figured out. Can you look over this list and see if there is anything else I need to add.”
I took the list from her. “I am sure you have everything.” I give her a reassuring look.
She wrings her hands. “I know, I am over thinking. I just haven’t seen my boy in so long I want everything to be perfect.” She starts pacing. She started doing this a couple of days ago. “He could find his mate at this thing. If I mess up somehow then she could not like us.”
I chuckle, “I think you might be over worrying. Who could not like you?”
She sighs. “I don’t know. I am worrying.” She points to the list. “What do you think?”
I look it over again. “It looks like you have everything covered. Except for dessert. I don’t see a dessert on the list.”
She smacks her forehead, “How could I forget dessert? Markus loves dessert.”
I handed the list back to her. “I wouldn’t worry, that is why you have me here.”
She smiles at me as she writes down a dessert. “You are a lifesaver. I would have felt so stupid tomorrow night if I didn’t have a dessert.” She sets the list to the side. “Ok, so we have that done. I have someone coming to collect it soon. Markus will be here in about an hour. We have our dresses. Staff will set up the rest of the party situation based on the list. Is there anything else that we need to do?” She sits on the end of her desk and rests her hands on her knees.
I make my face one of concentration and thought. “Well, as I see it there is only one thing that you need to do.”
Her eyes get wide. “What, did I forget something?”
I chuckle. “Relax. You need to relax.”
She sighs, sinking back down. “I know. I know. I am just nervous to be honest. What if he is so much different? What if I don’t even recognize my own boy?”
I came to her side and put my arm around her. “I am sure he is fine. You are a great mom. Darius loves you so much, I can’t imagine that Markus is different.”
She smiles and leans into me. “I am so glad to have another woman around here. You get it. I don’t think men do.” She sits up straight and jumps up from the desk. “So, has Darius seen the dress yet?”
I smile, because I know how much she wants this surprise. “No, I kept the dress in a guest room next door. He has no clue.”
She claps her hands together and holds them in front of her mouth. “I can’t wait to see his face.” She sits on the armrest of a chair. “Have you guys talked about what you guys are going to do?”
I shrug, we have talked about this before. I just don’t have an answer. “Not really. I think Darius is just ready to start having a family. I am not sure he has plans beyond that.”
She nods in understanding. “It just seems like it would be a shame to cut your education short. You worked so hard for it. Maybe we can talk to him about doing some online classes. I have seen how clingy he is. I imagine he doesn’t want you too far away. What were your plans before you found Darius?”
“I was going to college in the next district. I have a scholarship there. I was going to find an apartment after I found a job and earned enough to get started.”
She nods. “Well, maybe we can do online classes there. I’ll look into it and we can present it to Darius. Even if he objects we can call it training for your future position and get you that education. Do you know what you want to study?”
“I was focusing on social studies.”
She smiles. “That is perfect. Darius can’t object. I’ll look into what classes you can do from here. I am sure there are a lot of online courses. If we need to pay for it then we will.”
I shake my head. “Oh, no I couldn’t have you do that.”
She shakes her head back at me. “Nonsense you are our family now, we are happy to do it.”
