The leader tugged at Xie Ran. “Mr. Xie, I think we better leave. That’s about enough.”
Xie Ran shook off his hand and glared at Fu Yao. “Go tell my dad that I would rather die outside than be back to him. Don’t he dare threaten me with my men’s life!”
Fu Yao nodded and said, “I’ll take these words back for you, and now you can get lost.”
Xie Ran turned around and kicked the table and chairs beside him to vent his anger. Only then was he willing to leave.
Shen Qieyi poked her head around Fu Yao to look in the door’s direction. It was not until the door had been slammed shut that she let out a sigh of relief.
Fu Yao tilted his head and glanced at her. “It’s all right now. Don’t worry.”
Shen Qieyi came out from behind him and looked at the ransacked room. She turned and looked at him gratefully. “Thank you. I’m very thankful for your help.”
She never expected Fu Yao would continue to help her ever since the medical controversy. He had done uncountable things that kept her safe from all harm.
Fu Yao noticed her being distant and made him feel strangely awkward. “It’s okay. Anyone would have done the same.”
Shen Qieyi explained anxiously, “It’s all thanks to you…”
She was relentless about it and had made Fu Yao feel uncomfortable. “That’s enough…”
“Shen Qieyi, what I did today was just me returning the favor. I don’t need your thanks,” he calmly said as he turned around to avoid her probing gaze.
Shen Qieyi was stunned by his statement and quietly murmured, “Oh, so that’s it…”
She was grateful that he saved her from the threat, but his words filled her heart with bitterness.
After all, it was her who overthink.
Shen Qieyi took a deep breath and stopped reminiscing. She saw Fu Yao walking further away.
She stopped him and calmly said, “You might not need my thank, but you are hurt. I need to treat you.”
Fu Yao stood where he was and denied it without turning around. “It’s just a scratch. No worry.”
Shen Qieyi refused to let him go. “You don’t want to owe me, then don’t make me owe you.”
Fu Yao kept silent. Eventually, he yielded to her.
Seeing him eventually turn around, Shen Qieyi pointed to the door on her right. “This living room can’t be used for this time being. Please wait for me in there.”
After she said that, she went directly to the television cabinet for the first aid kit.
Fu Yao watched her sit on the floor and rummaged around the cabinet. He then walked to the room quietly without disturbing her.
He realized that it was her bedroom as he entered.
It was furnished with soft pink themes paired with deep blue windows setting. The room gave out a youthful yet elegant ambiance. It seemed that Shen Qieyi invested a lot of effort into the design.
Shen Qieyi hurried to join him with a medical kit. She saw him standing by the door to her room and thought that he hated her small room.
“Please be patient for a while. I’ll be done in no time,” she said plainly. She walked past him to the head of the bed.
He didn’t mind her words and stepped forward to sit on the edge of her bed.
Shen Qieyi turned her back to him, opened the box, and patiently instructed, “Take off your shirt.”
Fu Yao looked at her profile and felt her coldness toward him. But he just couldn’t put his finger on it.
He was silent as he sat up straight and removed his shirt with her help.
As soon as she had her medicine ready, she turned to him and saw him sitting straight, bare-chested. His posture made him look seductively muscular.
His beautiful eyes gazed at her, making it even worse.
Shen Qieyi was a little annoyed when she took a step closer. She tried to be calm and uttered, “Turn around. Let me have a look.”
Fu Yao hesitated. “I can do it myself.”
Seeing that he refused again, Shen Qieyi frowned and blocked him. “You have eyes on your back to do that?”
Fu Yao was at a loss for words. He gave in and slowly turned around.
She raised her eyes to the dark bruises on his back and instinctively looked away.
She steadied her breath and calmed her mind. A moment later, she shifted her eyes back to his back again.
Shen Qieyi touched his skin with her trembling fingertips. She worriedly asked, “Does it hurt?”
She didn’t expect the blow to be that heavy.
The room went quiet. Fu Yao felt the tip of her finger run through every inch of his wound. His exposed skin shuddered to the cold.
“It doesn’t hurt.” Fu Yao comforted her as he kept his composure even though he didn’t manage to see her expression.
These injuries were nothing.
At this moment, Shen Qieyi felt complicated. She threw secretly glanced at him and said, “I’ll apply alcohol to your wound, and you may feel a little uncomfortable.”
After he heard that, Fu Yao nodded and said, “Sorry to trouble you.”
Fu Yao gasped at the sharp pain from the alcohol-dipped cotton swab as it slid across his skin.
Shen Qieyi quickly withdrew her hand and leaned forward to get closer to him. “Is it too painful? I’ll try my best to be careful.”
Fu Yao turned his head to her voice. The distance between them became much closer. Almost too close that the sweat beads on her nose were clearly seen.
A different type of atmosphere lingered in the air as they continued to stare into each other eyes.
Fu Yao chuckled unexpectedly and said, “Compared to what you suffered, this is nothing.”
Shen Qieyi sat still and raised her eyebrows to look at him, and he was calmed as ever.
Shen Qieyi understood what he was trying to say, but she didn’t want to answer him.
“Fu Yao, thank you for your help.” She replied in silence after a long while.
Fu Yao kept his silence and allowed her to continue on until she was done and helped him put on his clothes.
He thought about it for a while and comforted her. “Don’t worry. They won’t come again.”
Shen Qieyi paused for a second, then glanced at the back of his head and answered under her breath, “Okay.”
At this moment, Fu Yao’s phone let out a loud vibration. The sound made an ear-piercing sound along the wooden cabinet.
“There’s a message for you.” Shen Qieyi naturally took his phone to hand it over to him like she used to. While she was at it, she glimpsed down at the screen.
“Take good care of yourself. I’ve always looked forward to seeing you again, but I won’t disturb you. I’ll be missing you from afar. Have a pleasant weekend. Mo Yirou.”
She was stunned for a second, then hastily handed it to Fu Yao.
Fu Yao took it over and casually glanced at the screen. He then calmly deleted it.
He did not explain the message, and she couldn’t help but feel disappointed. She knew it was not her place to say anything, but politely cautioned him, “Mo Yirou is not suitable for you.”
Fu Yao knew that she had misunderstood him, but he was never a person who explained himself. He nodded in agreement and answered, “Sure.”
Shen Qieyi felt as if her words were in vain.
After being treated, Fu Yao immediately told her he had to leave. Shen Qieyi thought he hated staying here with her.
She was disappointed but smiled anyway to hide it. “Well then.”
She acted busy cleaning up the ransacked house. Fu Yao saw and understood her intention.
Her action reminded him how she was when they were still together. Exactly like how she used to do her chores and protect their family.
A family that had nothing left but a name.
Under the light, Shen Qieyi’s shadow was stretched out, making her seem distant.
It was the first time that he attentively looked at her. It was strange how he did not feel awkward but was at ease with her presence.
He was indecisive for a while but finally decided to speak up.
“I had nothing to do with Mo Yirou. I had nothing to do with every woman in the past.”
