Chapter 63

Fu Yao realized that he had been too mouthy about it. Hence, he stopped talking to compromise.
Zhong Han took his time to yearningly touched the game equipment he missed before he entered the pantry.
He seemed familiar with this place like the back of his hand. He opened the squared container one by one, had the ingredients prepared, then leisurely made his coffee.
Zhong Han took his time in the pantry to the extent Fu Yao had nearly forgotten his presence. A while later, Zhong Han emerged in front of Fu Yao with two cups of coffee.
The fragrant coffee aroma enticed Fu Yao. He raised his brows and looked up.
Zhong Han pulled a long face as he handed the coffee to Fu Yao, muttering quietly, “It’s such a pity for a guest to be reduced to an assistant.”
Fu Yao scoffed and took the coffee over, “Please don’t overact.”
Zhong Han pursed his lips and ignored him.
Fu Yao took a few sips of the hot coffee and praised Zhong Han for his skilled hands.
Zhong Han sighed with a raised brow. Fu Yao had always been reserved about his issues. Zhong Han couldn’t stand him being like this any longer and questioned him, “What happened to you?”
Fu Yao casually replied, “Nah… nothing happened.”
“Don’t pretend it’s nothing. Don’t you remember when you drank recklessly because of the divorce?” Zhong Han mentioned his sensitive topic.
During the few days after the divorce, Fu Yao adapted to the changes slowly. Due to his personality, he hadn’t told anyone about it.
Zhong Han knew that Fu Yao was a person of few words. He always kept everything inside, and it made him even more anxious.
Fu Yao restrained the emotions in his eyes. He pretended to be calm while flipping through the documents. “Yes, we were.”
“What the f*ck? Brother, really? Was it finalized?” Zhong Han immediately bounced up from his chair in disbelief.
Fu Yao couldn’t be bothered by his yelling and didn’t respond.
Zhong Han paced back and forth to comprehend this piece of information. It was unexpected yet predictable.
“This shouldn’t be. Really divorced?” He pressed on.
Fu Yao glared at him. “Can you just shut up?”
He scoffed. “What’s wrong? You were the one eager for me to get a divorce. So that I could be at your place.”
Zhong Han was taken aback and was at a loss as to what to do now. “What the f*ck! That was a joke! I am not that kind of person. I memorized every teaching from ancestors by heart!”
Fu Yao ignored him. He lowered his head to continue writing and scribbling.
Zhong Han got even more upset seeing him like this. He leaned over and pulled away the documents from Fu Yao’s hand. “Now is not the time to read these. Well, now you can spend the rest of your life with these!”
Fu Yao uttered, “Who would go against money?”
Zhong Han was frustrated. “Are you telling me you are ok to continue your work with all this happening?”
He knew he was exposed. He went quiet and turned sulky.
Seeing him still trying to avoid, Zhong Han turned even more enraged.
The office went still for a while.
“It’s not as serious as you said.” Fu Yao took the initiative to ease the ambiance.
“That’s right. You are the fearless Fu Yao. You won’t flutter even to the end of the world. But I don’t wish for you to suppress yourself,” Zhong Han criticized him.
Fu Yao gave in and explained, “I’m fine…”
Zhong Han was right. He tried to be reasonable, but seeing Fu Yao like this, he could only sigh. “Huff, you…”
He shrugged helplessly. Fu Yao knew that secrets could never be secrets forever. He was stuck between his best friend and the Fu family. He knew that he would have to answer them eventually.
“Zhong Han, I gave her the freedom she wants,” Fu Yao said calmly after a long silence.
Knowing what Mr. Shen had done to Shen Qieyi, Zhong Han’s discontent toward her seemed to dissipate gradually.
Midnight, when it was quiet, Fu Yao couldn’t help but think about how foolish Shen Qieyi was.
Yet somehow, that foolish girl was about to leave.
And now, what was left was only a roomful of loneliness with him.
Zhong Han couldn’t bring himself to say anything else seeing Fu Yao in such a state. He muttered in a muffled tone, “Sometimes, I’m confused if you’re cold-hearted or just plain heartless.”
How was Fu Yao so calm about such a serious matter as divorce?
After Zhong Han left, Fu Yao wasn’t in the mood to continue working. He glanced at his wristwatch to check the time. It was already twelve.
He stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. The lights of countless homes were twinkling in the distance, creating a unique and enchanting atmosphere.
He was indecisive about where he should go at this moment. Should he return to his cold lonely home or continue to stay here?
The spacious office felt desolated. After pondering for a while, he finally grabbed his car key and drove away.
He drove aimlessly for a while. When he finally came to his senses, he found himself in an area he did not recognize.
He suddenly recalled a memory of the day they divorced. He had followed Shen Qieyi to this place.
Fu Yao raised his head and looked at the lightless building. He assumed that she must be asleep by now.
He didn’t know how she was doing now, but she must have been better without him.
With these thoughts in her mind, Fu Yao managed to muster a faint smile, content with the idea that if she were okay, that would suffice.
He turned off his engine and lay comfortably in his seat. He gave up on deciding where to go. It would be easier to spend the night in the car.
He had a hunch that he might meet her tomorrow.
In the morning, Fu Yao was awakened by the surrounding noises.
He didn’t sleep well through the night. However, he tried his best to wake up to see what was going on.
As he looked up, he saw a group of people holding iron rods in hand standing in the corridor. They looked like those delinquents who strolled the streets.
They rudely pushed aside the security guard who chased after them and furiously went upstairs.
“Boss, we’ve figured it out. We are sure that Shen Qieyi lives here.”
When the familiar name was mentioned, he trembled. He immediately understood the situation and stared at the man who seemed like their leader.
That man reminded Fu Yao of an occurrence earlier at the hospital’s security office. This man was in his wheelchair and gave Shen Qieyi a sinister smile.
“It’s him?”
Fu Yao didn’t have time to detail what was going on. He hastily got out of the car and tailed them upstairs.
While on the third floor, “Bang bang bang!” The leader clenched his fists and pounded hard on a door.
He had his people here to check out the area for a few days. From that, he knew that Shen Qieyi lived here and that she had not left the house that day.
He heard about this female doctor’s divorce. He thought this would be the perfect time for his revenge.
The door wasn’t sturdy enough to hold the vigorous pounding.
Shen Qieyi was in her room doing chores when the sudden pounding from the door startled her.
She hurried to the door with a rag still in her hand. Shen Qieyi stared numbingly at the door that was shaking violently.
Shen Qieyi was trembling and could feel every strand of hair on her neck stand up.
She held her breath, stepped forward, and carefully clung herself to the door inching to the peephole.
She recognized him. He was her previous patient, whose case was taken over by Mo Yirou mid-treatment. At that time, their conspiracy almost ruined her career.
Shen Qieyi had always anticipated patients’ families to come for her but had never expected him.
She thought that the medical dispute earlier had been resolved.
Suddenly, came a loud bang that startled Shen Qieyi.
They probably had broken the fire hydrant by the door.
Shen Qieyi was weak in the knees as she turned around. She used the foyer’s white wall to prevent her from falling.
“What are you doing? How dare you break into private property and vandalize property?”
