It was already 10:00pm and Rose haven’t still seen Mr. Evidence. She had been calling his line but no one was picking up.
‘Maybe he left because it was very urgent. Maybe he isn’t picking up because he is still busy.’ She thought.
‘He said that we would be going out this friday night but now that I’m not seeing him, maybe, tomorrow, we would.’ She said within herself.
She waited and waited until it was 11pm. She went to take a shower as she came back to her room and laid on her bed with her phone in her hand. She tried to close her eyes and sleep but she couldn’t, she laid and rolled on the bed hoping to see her door open by Mr. Evidence but nothing like that happened. She decided to call him again for the last time and when she did, it was the same result. No one was picking up.
She tried to see if anyone knew his whereabouts as she went downstairs to see if she could find David or any other person. When she went downstairs, the scene that caught her eyes was David coming inside.
“Good evening,”
David nodded.
“Please have you seen Mr. Evidence? The last time I saw him was in the morning before I went to bath and when I came out of the bathroom, I couldn’t find him any more and his number hadn’t been going through.”
David stood as he listened to Rose but it seemed like he wasn’t listening to her at all. Rose noticed his mood, she had never seen him in such a happy and cheerful mood as she wondered what would have happened.
“Did you see him?” She asked again.
“I haven’t. Most of the time, it’s like that sometimes, he is a busy person and goes out anytime he receives an urgent call. I’m sure he will be back by tomorrow.”
“Ok.”
He smiled at her and climbed upstairs to his room, still putting on his never fading smile.
Rose was still worried but David’s words seemed to calm her a little. She believed that David knew Mr. Evidence’s nature of Job more than she did and so she decided to wait until tomorrow to wait for his arrival. She climbed back to her room but never stopped trying to call Mr. Evidence’s number.
Meanwhile, Annabel had already reached home, took her bath, took dinner and was now looking for Mara. She searched Mara’s room but couldn’t find her. She went to the kitchen but Mara wasn’t there. She searched every possible place that she may be inside the house but still couldn’t find any trace of her. She started to get nervous.
She came outside the building and asked the security guards about Mara’s whereabouts but she was shocked to hear them tell her that Mara hadn’t passed the gate since she left Mara at home. She began to wonder where she could be.
She walked around the compound and sighted Mara where she was seated close to the pool, it looked like something was wrong with her.
Annabel walked towards Mara to know what the issue was when she found her crying. She wondered what could be the reason for her tears as she decided to ask.
“Mara, are you okay? What happened? And why are you all by yourself here, crying?”
She bent low towards Mara and started to caress her, trying to stop her from crying but it looked as if her effort wasn’t working at all.
Mara’s tears were flowing non-stop.
“Baby girl, what is the problem, please talk to me. You are getting me scared now, sister please talk to me. What is the problem?”
Mara looked up at Annabel as she called her “Sister.” And gave her a tight hug as her crying intensified.
Annabel understood that something was wrong somewhere. She hugged Mara back with so much passion as she tried holding her hands and leading her inside the building. They went inside the sitting room as she led Mara to have a sit on the couch and she also sat closer to Mara.
“You still haven’t told me anything yet, I wouldn’t know what the problem is if you don’t tell me, sister. Please stop crying and tell me the issue, okay? You know, sister is always here for you? Now, don’t cry anymore.”
Annabel held Mara’s shoulder and tried to calm her down abit. She wiped her tears and told Mara to breathe in and out before speaking. And Mara did as she was instructed but that didn’t stop the tears from dropping though.
“Now, tell me.”
“Clara is dead.”
“I don’t understand.”
“Before you left this afternoon, you know i told you that i spoke with Mara and she said she would be coming today?”
Annabel nodded.
“She told me that her flight was 4:00pm, and… ”
she couldn’t speak and more, those tears that she tried to hold started to pour again.
“Shhhh. Don’t cry.” Annabel wiped away her tears but those tears never stopped dropping.
“It… was announced in the news that… the… 4:00 flight that left some minutes ago… got …. exploded and they confirmed that nothing was wrong with the plane. The engineer confirmed that he had checked the plane before it flew and was surprised that the plane exploded just like that. Sister… Clara … Is… My sister is dead.” She burst into tears.
Annabel tried to calm her down, she wondered how Mara heard all of that. She suddenly turned and saw the television was still on, the news about the exploded plane was still ongoing as she concluded that Mara must have heard that information from the news.
Mara didn’t stop crying, she kept on crying as Annabel continued to see if she could at least cuddle her to bed. Annabel understood Mara’s pain, it wasn’t easy to lose a father and a sister within the space of one week. It was really a painful and the worst moment for Mara.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Mike had gone to see the doctor. The doctor told him that Mr. Evidence has just one week to live. He said he had an incurable illness and nothing can be done about it but the only option was to go for an operation. Going for an operation won’t guarantee his safety, so he said. “There is only 30% chance that he might survive from the operation.”
Mike heard what the doctor had said and then walked out to meet Mr. Evidence.
