After they took a picture outside the cafe, they went inside to order coffee. “My god, I haven’t been able to say goodbye to Francis, that might worry me.”
“Don’t worry, I texted him before. Honestly, he suggested I bring you here because it’s a new cafe.” Brett replied.
Ah, so Francis and Brett are closer? The two still know more about texting. She looked at Brett closely and Rachel thought that as long as they had a relationship, the man had the ability to hurt her. “Let’s proceed with the annulment,” Rachel said while staring at Brett.
Brett’s tongue burned in the hot coffee because of the wife’s question. “I already told you, there will be no annulment. You’re mine, just mine!” Brett declared.
“I don’t know if it’s right to give you a second chance. I’m afraid the past might just repeat itself and I’ll be hurt again. I can’t stand it just in case,” he admitted to Brett.
Brett put down the coffee cup he was holding and held the woman’s two hands. “Promise, I will pour you all the love I can give. I feel sorry for you Rachel, forget about the annulment of our marriage.”
“Well see,” she said here. She was actually scared because it wasn’t a joke what she went through when she lost the man. Yes, and Brett was still the one her heart cried out for, but she also couldn’t ignore the fact that he was deceived once. Isn’t there a saying that once a cheater would always be a cheater.
“I can see there’s something bothering you,” Brett commented to Rachel when she suddenly calmed down and looked away.
“Hmmm, about Carter’s Dad.” Rachel thought it was time for Brett to find out the truth about Carter.
Brett was nervous when Rachel mentioned about Carter’s father and he hesitated to tell the woman that he already knew the truth. “I see, what about that bastard?”
“Well, that bastard is you.” Rachel said before she drank the leftover coffee from her cup.
“I don’t understand you, I thought, you were shot that night?” Brett asked the woman.
“You just thought that. I didn’t know what I was going to do at that time. I was scared,” he said.
“I’m sorry, Rachel. I was also angry before when I found out what you did,” Brett explained. “Maybe if you didn’t hurry everything,” Brett said.
“If I hadn’t done that, you and Betting would have gotten married.” Rachel replied.
“Sabagay,” Brett admitted that even though he didn’t want to marry anyone before, it would be hard for him to reject his grandmother. “It’s embarrassing what I did before to hurt you,” Brett added.
“It’s okay. I’ve moved on. So, going back to Carter’s daddy, what can you say?” Rachel doubted Brett’s behavior when he mentioned about her son’s father. Previously when they talked about the child’s mysterious father, he was overwhelmed and always frowned.
“I’m still processing the idea that I’m his real father. Recently, I was jealous of that person. I thought that once in your life, you had met a man better than me,” he said with utmost sincerity because it’s the truth.
“Did you really expect me to jump from one man to another? Ah, I know, because that’s your job, eh. We’re still together but you took your woman to the hacienda right away.” He didn’t complain, he just told men what happened and why their marriage failed.
Brett was dazzled by Rachel’s frankness. “I’m sorry about Bettina. I don’t know why I was able to hurt you. Believe me or not, I love you Rachel. And that love hasn’t disappeared in recent years,” she said.
“Char,” Rachel said because she didn’t believe what the man said.
“Everything I said is true, is it hard for me to believe?” Brett was slightly offended by what Rachel said.
“Quite. But that’s right, I might still be bored here, embarrassing to people. Are you done with coffee?” Rachel changed the subject because she was afraid of being emotional if Brett continued with what she was saying.
“Why, are we leaving?” He didn’t want to leave but if Rachel really wanted to go home, there was nothing he could do.
“Nope. I’m hungry, isn’t there a restaurant near this cafe?” He hadn’t eaten well before because he was worried about Brett.
“Yes, but it’s a seafood restaurant. Seafood is forbidden at night,” Brett reminded his wife. If they are really hungry, they can order pizza or pasta at the cafe.
“Sus, you’re really old Brett. What the hell are you saying there? Tara, let’s go. Don’t be killjoy,” Rachel pulled Brett’s hand so that it followed him out of the 10, 000 Roses Cafe.
When they enter the dining room, only a few people are eating, while others are busy taking pictures of themselves. They chose to sit in the alfresco dining area and when the two of them were seated, a waiter immediately approached and gave them the menu.
Rachel no longer dismissed the waiter and immediately handed over their order. He ordered garlic butter prawns, grilled boneless bangus, crab ala zamboanga and two bottles of san mig light. After he dictated to the waiter his choices, he then asked Brett what he wanted.
With the amount Rachel ordered, Brett wasn’t sure if it could consume it all. “Bossing, what’s the bestseller soup here?”
“Try Bakasi, sir.” Waiter’s suggestion.
“Okay, go ahead thanks. Can the beer be served now? I want your ice-cold,” he instructed the waiter before leaving. A few minutes later, the waiter returned with two bottles of ice-cold san mig light.
While waiting for their food order, they began to sip cold beer. But one bottle each was not enough for two adults who needed to drink. When the food arrived, Rachel and Brett ran out of three bottles of beer each.
“Wow, it’s delicious to look at. Let’s taste them,” Rachel said as she picked up a crab. Before leaving the fat crab, he noticed the strange kind of fish in Brett’s soup bowl. It’s like little snakes.
“Is that Bakasi?” he asked the man.
“You want to try it?” Earlier he noticed Rachel staring straight at what she ate. Maybe, this is just the first time he has seen a vacation. The small eel was very famous in the town of Cordova because it’s known for its aphrodisiac qualities.
“No, thank you.” As if he could eat that kind of food. But every bite of Brett on Bakasi grabs that attention. It’s distracting. “Is that really delicious?”
“Hmmm, it depends on your taste. Do you know why so many order it?” He looked like Kuya Kim in Matanglawin as the woman was asked.
“No, why?” Rachel was curious.
“Because of it’s aphrodisiac qualities. I just don’t know if that’s true or just gossip, but we can test later if the gossip is true.” Brett said jokingly.
Rachel’s two cheeks suddenly blushed at Brett’s remark. So by the way, the smile given by the waiter earlier when Brett added it to their order was different. An aphrodisiac was a substance that increased the sexual libidos when consumed.
Rachel simply placed her one hand over Brett’s thigh and squeezed hard as if he was shivering. “Hmmm, I think that’s just chismis really,” he said in a low voice so they wouldn’t be heard by other diners.
“What are you doing?” Brett commented to the wife when she felt his hand crawling on her thigh.
“Oops, sorry. I thought you spilled sauce on your thigh, eh.” He lied.
