“Daniel!” She called as she rushed after him.
He sighed as he turned to her, “what is it?” He asked as he shrugged and she stared at him, she couldn’t believe this. He was suddenly acting strange with her and it was breaking her to the core.
She swallowed as she stared at him, “why are you acting this way with me? Did I do anything wrong?” She asked him and he rolled his eyes before staring back at her.
“Did I say you did?”
“There’s no need to be so rude to me you know” she told him, expressing her utmost displeasure in the way and manner he spoke to her.
He sighed as he ran his fingers through his hair. “Leave me alone Kathryn, just please let me be” he told her and she battled to stop the tears from streaming down her cheeks.
She couldn’t believe this, how could he have said those words to her. “I should let you be? What does that even mean?” She asked him and he grabbed her by the shoulders as he dug his fingers deep into her skin while she winced.
On a normal day, things like this wouldn’t hurt her as she had being specially trained to overcome things like this but then, since it came from Daniel, she couldn’t help but let tears stream down her cheeks.
“It’s because of that night isn’t it?” She asked him as she swallowed, slowly taking his hands off her shoulders.
He stared at her, confused. “What night?” He asked her.
“The night that we…..” she couldn’t bring herself to complete it and she just kept shut as she stared at him, wondering what had come over him that was making him act so unruly with her.
“I don’t know what night you’re talking about so let me say this, leave me alone for now, I just need time for me to figure things out!” He told her
“Figure what out? What do you want to figure out? Benefits of being rude to me? You want to know if hurting me would actually be painful? You….” He placed his index finger to her lips as he stared at her.
“Three words, leave me alone.” He told her before taking his hands off. He was already leaving the house when he stopped and then turned to her as he spoke. “There’s no need coming to the office, you’re not needed there, for now at least” he told her before leaving.
She stared at him, shocked. What could have gotten over him? How could he have said those words to her? She could not believe this as the Daniel she knew would have never being this mean to her.
She took a deep inhale before letting out an exhale as she stared at him, it was all going to be fine, she wanted to believe that this was just a phase, one that would soon be gotten over. She wanted to believe this, with all her heart.
As she sat in the couch, she held on to her head. There was a documentary showing but she couldn’t bring herself to concentrate especially because of the things that had being happening with herself and Daniel in the last days.
He had never being so rude to her before but in those last days, not only had he stopped eating with her, he made sure to avoid her like she was some plague. He also made sure that whenever she called, he didn’t take her calls. This hurt her a lot, more than anything in the entire world.
She took a deep sigh as she got out of the couch. He didn’t want to explain anything to her and it was leaving her hanging. While he was mean to her, he was still living his life, going the places he pleased while she was just in the house, staring at the telenovelas that came up and she was tired of it, she was done doing as he requested.
She rushed to her room as she got changed before picking her bag and styling her hair. So what if he had told her not to come to the office as she was not needed? It wasn’t the first time she had being told not to go somewhere and she ended up going now would it?
She sighed as she called the maid’s attention to her departure before finally leaving the house. She took a deep inhale as she sat in the back seat of the taxi, she wasn’t going to be a puppet any more.
He could ignore her, she could no longer care less but as for leaving her alone in the house with the maids, she would no longer take it. She was going to do what made her happy now. He could do his worst!
She walked into the company as everyone greeted her. She was so happy to be here again as it had being so long. Daniel had stopped her from coming to the company in so many days and her colleagues, both the ones who liked and didn’t like her especially as Daniel had announced her as his girlfriend welcomed her.
“Why didn’t you come with Mr Lopez today?” One of her colleagues who’d always watched them come together ask.
“Actually, he left before me because I had some work to do and….”
“Oh, you don’t get my question, Mr Lopez hadn’t come to work today. I was asking why you left him behind. Don’t tell me you’re both having issues?” Her colleague asked her and she stared at her, confused.
She could have sworn that Daniel had come to the office because he had left home.
She chuckled. “There must be a mix up, he actually left home and….” She couldn’t bring herself to expain so she rushed up to the elevator and then into the office and to her surprise or rather dismay, she found the office empty, like it had being the last time she came to the office days back.
Nothing had changed not even the position of the files. It only meant one thing, he hadn’t being coming to the office.
If he had not being coming here all those days then where had he being going?
She staggered back as the thought of this hit her.
