Maria turned to face the girl that was supposed to be a co-anchor for the radio broadcast that was about to be aired, “you, what are you still doing, seated there?”
The lady quickly stood up on her feet, glanced at Emily, who was absentminded, for a brief moment, and stepped out of the radio studio.
Maria smiled sweetly at Emily, “Here, sit.”
Emily bowed and took her seat beside the male co-anchor.
“Ready? You’re going on air in, Hana Dul Set!”
Maria stood outside the studio and watched Emily closely as she performed with the male anchor on the show.
It was just a small documentary that pertained to music-they weren’t even interviewing anyone.
Maria grinned to herself as soon as the show ended, ‘wow, an in-built talent… This is the real deal.’
the male anchor turned towards Emily and shook hands with her, “Wow, it was nice working with you.”
“Kamsahamnida.” She bowed and walked out to meet her manager.
Maria smiled at her, “You did well honey, let’s get ready for the news.”
She turned around and headed to the news studio.
Emily followed her, looking around in awe.
As soon as they stepped into the studio, Emily gulped audibly.
The television production studio was completely different and more substantial than the radio studio.
It was classically designed with professional video cameras, mounted perfectly on pedestals, and other appliances, perfectly situated around.
Its control room, transmission control room, and master control room were uniquely designated at the far left corner of the studio.
The studio floor alone was really large and beautiful.
“Get on the studio floor, you are about to go on air.” Maria’s voice brought Emily out of her dreamland.
She took the cue and ascended the three steps that led to the studio floor, and sat on the only available stool-she was broadcasting alone.
The control technicians were already prepared, and soon, Emily was on-air.?️?️?️
Sitting incredibly composed on the stool, Emily read out the news without taking a blink at the script.
She had assimilated everything in the manuscript when she had first practiced at home.
She had no fear, nor thoughts, on her mind as she flashed her white set of teeth at the cameras, broadcasting the news with dignity.
The manner with which she read the news was unique and impressive.
Michael and Joel looked away from the monitor and gaped at the screen with the audience measurement-the news’ viewing rate was increasing, drastically.
They watched in amazement, as the viewers that were currently tuned in to their station, increased from forty million, the highest amount of viewers that Stephanie always pulled, to fifty million viewers… then, to two hundred million viewers! That was huge!!
The brothers couldn’t contain their excitement as they gawked back at the monitor, watching how Emily broadcasted flawlessly. TALENT.
?️??️”We have finally come to the end of the news, don’t forget to tune in tomorrow, same time, same station. I’m Emily Chen. I love you.”?️?️?️ Emily waved her hand at the camera, letting out a killer smile.
The technicians in the control room quickly put on a documentary for the viewers.
Everyone stood up on their feet and clapped their hands.
The technicians hastily stepped out of the control rooms and rushed into the studio.
Emily smiled at everyone as she climbed down from the studio floor.
“Wow!”
“You were really good just now, miss!”
“I love working with you!”
“You are amazing.”
“You are a newbie right?… But you were just too perfect.”
“You are my mentor!”
“You are my inspiration!”
Emily blushed deeply as everyone, including the technicians, and some other newbies, in the studio, praised her.
“It was nice working with you guys, but she needs to get going.” Maria cut in, grinning proudly from ear to ear, and led Emily out of the production studio.
“Fuck!” Joel cursed under his breath as soon as the news ended.
He watched Emily on the monitor, as she was being praised by the employees.
Michael couldn’t stop himself from grinning, “She was great.”
Joel nodded his head, “Hmn.”
“Ahhhh, now I’m hungry.” He groaned, patting gently his stomach.
Michael twitched his lips, “Once Emily gets here, we’ll get going.”
Maria smiled as she and Emily walked towards the elevator, “You tried honey, I don’t need to teach you anything more.”
Emily grinned thankfully, “Kamsahamnida.”
“But you need to be very careful from now on because this is the beginning of the war.” Maria stared expressionlessly at her.
Emily couldn’t help but furrow her brows, “What!?
She scowled, ‘War? It’s my first time working in the industry… its meant to be the beginning of happiness…’
“Uhn.” Maria nodded her head.
Emily grimaced, ‘But I didn’t come here to fight anyone…’
“Huh.” Maria chuckled
“You sure didn’t come here to fight…” Maria spoke up.
Emily pouted, “Huh?…”
She didn’t know she was thinking out loud.
“We’ll talk better tomorrow, okay? They are waiting for you.” Maria smiled and walked away to her office.
Emily got in the elevator and pouted. War? Who was going to kill her? She couldn’t help but think.
The elevator reached the top floor and Emily walked out of it grudgingly.
Before she could reach the door to Michael’s office, Joel and Michael stepped out-they were really hungry.
They both had face masks on.
Michael was the first to notice the sad expression on Emily’s face.
“Emily, wae?… What’s wrong?” He asked as they walked towards her.
She quickly let out a smile, “Ani, it’s nothing.”
“Kaja?” He took her hand and led her through the private back door.
Joel frowned as he walked behind them-something was wrong with the girl…
Maybe the broadcast exhausted her.
In no time, they were out of the industry.
The girl that Maria had chased away from the radio studio furrowed her brows as she sat in her manager’s office.
She couldn’t help but think, ‘That person… was that my step sister?’
The lady she saw resembled…
“Rachael,” Her manager’s voice drifted her out of thought.
She sighed and looked up at her manager, “What?”
“Are you still thinking about that scene?..” Her manager, Lucy, asked.
Rachael didn’t respond, she turned Lucy’s laptop towards her and went online. She searched for the news and played it, she stared intently at the newscaster… It was her step-sister, Emily.
She almost couldn’t believe her eyes.
“How could… how come?” She stuttered.
“What is it?” Lucy turned the laptop to herself and watched the lady in the video, closely.
“That’s the lady that broadcasted this evening,” She sneered, looking up at Rachael.
She smirked, “We should find something to do about her…”
“Only God knows the number of men she slept with to get to broadcast that news. Even you that also slept your way up to the position you are right now, you still haven’t been given any chance to broadcast news… Co-anchoring radio broadcast is all you are still able to do in the industry.” She blabbed.
Rachael swept a quick, murdering gaze at her manager.
How could she just say that bluntly, what if someone heard?
Lucy slapped herself across the cheek, “Mihanae.”
“But really, what do we do about that girl?… She’s going to be a pain in the ass if we don’t act fast.” She quickly added.
“She’s my step-sister.” Rachael blurted out.
Lucy’s eyeballs almost popped out of their sockets, “Mbo!?”
“Uhn.” Rachel twitched up her lips.
Lucy grinned dreamily as she looked down at the screen of her laptop, “She’s really pretty.”
Rachel shot her a deadly glare, and she quickly shut her mouth.
“Hmn…” She cleared her throat uneasily.
“Erm, so… what do we do now?” She asked.
“Nothing. We do nothing.” Rachel stated blankly.
Lucy arched up her brows, “Sorry!?”
Rachel rolled her eyes, “Why are you so dumb?”
She smirked, “Do you think Stephanie is going to stay calm?…”
Lucy nodded her head, “Ahhhh, that’s true…”
Rachel tittered evilly, “We just need to wait for the outcome, we don’t need to do anything.”
???
Stephanie balled up her fists and turned to her assistant, “What did you just say?”
She had dressed up since 7:30 pm, waiting patiently for Empire World to call her like they did the last time, but she was surprised she didn’t get any call from the industry, even until after the time for the broadcast.
She was already getting agitated when her assistant ran in and her the shock of her life.
She stood up on her feet, slowly, “I ask again, what did you say?”
“They used someone else,” Nancy replied, again.
“Mbo? Someone else?… ???” Stephanie couldn’t help but laugh.
Nancy fidgeted nervously, “It’s not funny…”
“Why?… It’s so funny! ??” Stephanie took her seat.
“Empire World, really? Someone else… So funny.”
“Chill, Nancy, they’ll surely come around. There’s no one better than me in this country.” She smirked, sipping her wine slowly.
Nancy pouted, “Ani, there’s someone better.”
Stephanie’s face darkened, “Mwo!??”
Nancy frowned, “I’m sorry, but she is a newbie.”
She handed the tablet over to Stephanie and clicked on the video.
The more she watched the video, the more Stephanie’s face darkened.
It was true. It was really obvious the girl was better than her.
She handed the tablet back to her PA and rapped her fingertips on the table.
Almost immediately, her manager rushed in.
Carmen’s breathing hitched from running, “Have you heard?”
Stephanie squeezed the wineglass in her hand till it smashed, and fell, shattering, on the floor.
Her hand bled out.
“Ah, I see you… ha-have havee… heard.” Carmen stuttered as she watched blood trickle down from Stephanie’s hand.
“Who is she?” Stephanie asked, her face, expressionless.
Carmen gulped, “I’m on it.”
Stephanie stood up on her feet and walked into her room.
Carmen turned to Nancy, “Get someone to clean this mess up.”
Nancy bobbed her head, “Nde.”
“The first aid kit, you know what to do right?” Carmen asked, arching her brows.
“Nde,” Nancy replied, bobbing her head again.
Carmen nodded her head and walked out of Stephanie’s apartment. She needed to get to work.
Who the hell that girl was, she would find out.
