Chapter 29

Keith had a stiff straight facial expression and his voice didn’t sound as if he was joking. “What did you say?” Cynthia asked unable to believe her ears. “Did he just insult her in front of everyone?”
Keith glanced at her and smirked turning to Georgina “Is that all?” He asked totally ignoring Cynthia and making her look like a fool. Cynthia scoffed throwing daggers at him.
Lindsey watched silently wondering why Keith was suddenly standing up for her, the last time she checked, she was very angry with him because of the pregnancy scandal and didn’t even sleep in the villa.
“Yes, Son, that would be all,” Georgina said with a smile plastered on her face. The last statement brought the board meeting to the end.
Keith stood up and walked towards Lindsey, staring at her, she grabbed her gradually by the hand and walked her out of the conference room as everyone kept mute staring at them.
“What was that about?” Lindsey asked releasing her hand from Keith’s grip. Keith loosened his tie turning towards her. He let out a smile which displayed his white set of teeth. “Make sure you get yourself checked today and stop the press from releasing any more ridiculous stories,” Keith said and Lindsey scoffed folding her hands beneath her breast. “Why? Was that why you sided with me huh?” Lindsey asked but Keith grinned his teeth taking a few steps closer to her which made them very close to each other. “The slap I delivered to you is going to be the tip of the iceberg if you don’t do as I said, you better lay low for the next four years understand” Keith whispered sending a cold chill down Lindsey’s blood but she just smiled trying not to show him, her fears.
One good thing Lindsey let from Angela was the power to hide things people are dying to see and that thing was fear and weakness. Angela had told her that the inky way to survive the cruel reality of life is not to show people her fears or her weakness. “Thanks for the advice but don’t forget that threatening me isn’t doing you any good, the reporters would be wowed and forever ready to hear what I have to say about our marriage,” Lindsey said with a smile plastered on her face. In her mind, she was praying Keith don’t go further in the conversation.
Georgina stood in the hallway staring at them, her facial expression was blank so it was almost impossible to read it. Beside her were Bianca and Joyce who were also staring at Keith and Lindsey.
Immediately after Keith and Lindsey had left the conference room, the other directors left the room one after the other leaving just Georgina, Joyce and Bianca. “You have a private meeting with Chairman Lee,” Bianca said calling back Georgina’s subconscious but it seemed as if she was very far from them because she didn’t even hear what Bianca said or maybe she heard it but had no interest in responding.
“How did yesterday really go?” Georgina asked in a stern voice. Joyce gulped hard recalling Lindsey’s order about not breathing a word to anyone, not even the chairwoman, she specifically mentioned that. “Not so well,” Joyce began. She knew she had to obey Lindsey’s order, yes but the chairwoman was more superior than her, she was just the vice president and if she is in the chairwoman’s good book, Lindsey wouldn’t do much to her. “Not so well?” Georgina asked shifting her gaze to her.
Joyce nodded her head “The president hit her, it was just a slap but it was an unexpected one” Joyce explained further. Georgina closed her eyes inhaling deeply and opened her eyes while exhaling. “Such a useless boy” she muttered.
“Who else was there?” She asked. “Erm, there was another woman there, she left with the president and he never returned, I haven’t seen her before but I would be able to recognize her if I see her again,” Joyce said. Georgina thought hard about who that could be and no matter how hard she thought, there was just one person who kept popping up. It was Audrey. “Do Lindsey know her?” Georgina asked. “It seems that might be the case because she didn’t ask her who she was and the woman didn’t introduce herself either,” Joyce said.
Georgina was very much convinced that it was Audrey “that slimy Bitch, I would deal with her seriously” Georgina muttered.
Georgina inhaled blinking her eyes, Keith already walked out on Lindsey. “Make sure you update me on whatever happens between them, I mean every single detail, I’m the only one to decide which information is important or not important,” Georgina said. “Okay ma’am,” Joyce said before excusing herself to join Lindsey.
“Where are we heading to?” Mr. Oliver Lindsey’s private chauffeur asked. Lindsey spared Joyce a brief look enough to access her before replying to Mr. Oliver. “Any hospital not frequently visited by the Winslow family,” Lindsey said making Mr. Oliver glance at her for a while. “I would just drive you to the one downtown, it’s hardly visited by elites and you wouldn’t be seeing any reporter there,” Mr. Oliver said.
Lindsey smiled feeling very grateful “Thanks, let’s get going, I need to go to Lindsey’s events afterwards,” she said urging him to be fast. Mr. Oliver bowed respectfully before driving off.
“I hope you didn’t say a word to the chairwoman,” Lindsey asked taking Joyce aback. “No, she was just instructing me on how to help you adjust to your new position” Joyce paused for a while and continued almost immediately “I would be setting up a meeting with the staffs at Ragusang Bio and Ragusang Gallery for tomorrow at noon and you would be meeting with Warris staffs on Monday,” Joyce said looking at her iPad.
Lindsey nodded her head, finally realizing the need for a good secretary, she wouldn’t be able to arrange her life, her schedule and that of another person and still, be physically and mentally healthy.
“I see,” Lindsey said shifting her gaze to the road. A few minutes later, Mr. Oliver announced they already arrived at the place. Lindsey looked around and frowned at the environment. “No wonder no one visits here, who in his or her right senses would come to such a place” Lindsey muttered alighting from the car.
She looked around observing the environment, it was a local health centre and the environment was nothing to write home about.
She walked into the shabby-looking hospital, the exterior was no different from the interior. “Oh my gosh, Mrs. Winslow, we are so honoured to have you around,” One of the nurses said in excitement.
Lindsey flashed her a smile “Can I see a doctor real quick and don’t post anything on social media” Lindsey said looking at her phone which was in her hand.
“Oh, we don’t do that here” she started with a smile. Lindsey was a bit relieved but she didn’t let her guard down. She needed to get done with everything soon and leave.
“The doctor is actually going round the ward checking on the patient but you can wait for him in his office,” She said. Lindsey nodded her head in approval signalling her to lead the way.
“I’m nurse Tessy by the way, the metron in charge of this hospital” Nurse Tessy said. “Congratulations,” Lindsey said. She didn’t know what else to say to sound less offensive or superior since it appeared the woman wanted to start a conversation with her.
“Thank you, I started following you after your marriage into the Winslow family and I watched the video of your donation in Paris,” Nurse Tessy paused a bit allowing her to digest the words. “This health centre specializes in sick children with different illnesses and we barely have any instrument to treat them and most of the kids here are either orphans or from a poor home, we managed to get a volunteer doctor after six months and we don’t have any hopes for the future,” Nurse Tessy said.
Lindsey thought hard about what to say, she knew the woman was asking for financial help but she wasn’t sure if she could give her that, the money she had donated was the money the chairman sent to her, and all she had was the money her event planning company generates or from the contract with Keith. Lindsey smiled Inhaling deeply “Why don’t you discuss it with my secretary and I would see what I can do about it, I actually came here for something very urgent and I need to leave soon,” Lindsey said signalling Joyce to share her complementary card with the nurse which she did without hesitation.
Nurse Tessy was taken aback as she wondered what she came to do that was so important, there were other big hospitals and if she was sick, she would probably go to a well-equipped hospital. “I will do just that, this is the doctor’s office, you can go in,” Nurse Tessy said.
Lindsey looked at the door which had the doctor’s name ‘Dr. Gideon Virago’ written on it. “I will go in alone,” Lindsey said. Joyce raised a brow at her but she was in no place to question her. She stood outside as Lindsey entered the office alone.
Lindsey sat down looking around the office whereas glancing at her wristwatch at intervals. A few minutes later, the door yanked open and she turned to see the doctor only to behold a familiar face standing right in front of her.
“You?”
