The Read family
Jaylah sat in her room, engrossed in reading a script, when her phone rang. It was Tia on the other end.
“Jaylah, I’ve just received some great news. I think your time has come,” Tia exclaimed.
Jaylah couldn’t help feeling a bit impatient whenever Tia uttered those words. She had been hearing them for far too long. This time, apart from landing a role in a play, Jaylah didn’t feel any indication that her time was indeed coming, as Tia claimed.
Noticing Jaylah’s silence, Tia realized that she wasn’t buying into her words. Without playing games, she decided to be straightforward. “Remember how we tried to get Indesit Jewelry to lend us some jewelry? Well, they rejected our request…”
The mention of Indesit Jewelry instantly ignited Jaylah’s anger, and she interrupted Tia before she could continue. “Tia, what’s wrong with you? Didn’t you tell me not to bring up that brand? Do you think I’m not humiliated enough?”
Jaylah had hoped to elevate her status by leveraging the reputation of Indesit Jewelry before attending an event. They had tried various means to reach out to Indesit Jewelry, only to receive a response stating that she wasn’t qualified and didn’t deserve to borrow their jewelry. Even after she mentioned the Read family, Indesit Jewelry didn’t budge.
They simply dismissed the Read Family as inconsequential, believing them to be a small and unworthy family seeking favor from Indesit Jewelry.
The entire incident had been a source of great embarrassment for the Read family. Mason, upon learning about the situation, had sought assistance from a nobleman who he believed could influence Indesit Jewelry’s perception. Yet, both he and the nobleman ended up being blacklisted by the jewelry brand, permanently depriving them of any association with their products.
This incident had soured relations between the nobleman and the Read family, and the nobleman began to disrespect them in business dealings. Mason was so infuriated by the whole ordeal that he ended up in the hospital.
He blamed Jaylah entirely for the humiliation, believing that it was her lack of fame that led to such disgrace for the Read family. It was the first time Jaylah had been verbally abused by her own grandfather.
Consequently, despite Jaylah’s strong desire to possess Indesit Jewelry, she harbored a deep-rooted hatred for the brand.
Now, Tia had mentioned it again. How could that possibly make her happy?
Observing Jaylah’s genuine annoyance, Tia hesitated momentarily about continuing the conversation. However, after a brief pause, she said, “Jaylah, hear me out. Indesit Jewelry has decided to collaborate with female stars in our industry. They will be providing jewelry for one of the actresses at the Regal Award. They informed us that all attending female stars have the opportunity to negotiate a collaboration with them. I think we should do our best to pursue it.”
Jaylah furrowed her brow. Although she couldn’t comprehend why Indesit Jewelry had suddenly changed its stance, this was an incredibly enticing offer.
Wearing Indesit Jewelry at the Regal Award would not only elevate her overall image but also guarantee that she outshone everyone else.
As Jaylah remained silent, Tia continued persuading her. “Jaylah, you don’t want to be overshadowed at the Regal Award, do you? I heard that Rylee and the others have already taken action. This collaboration with Indesit Jewelry is practically a done deal. We can’t let her suppress us.”
At the mention of Rylee Huff, Jaylah’s expression darkened immediately.
Anyone else getting the collaboration opportunity would be tolerable for Jaylah, but absolutely not Rylee.
This woman had been Jaylah’s arch-rival since their school days, and now she had become a rising star favored by Globalhive Pictures. Jaylah had repeatedly lost lead actress roles to her, snatched away by this woman.
What was more, it was this woman who had caused Jaylah’s first-ever humiliation.
There was a man whom Jaylah had admired for a long time, and she couldn’t understand why he was infatuated with that bitch, Rylee, while turning a blind eye to her, the second daughter of the Read family.
Jaylah refused to accept losing to Rylee.
Immediately, she said to Tia, “Get it for me. By any means necessary, secure it for me.”
Tia felt a sense of relief upon hearing Jaylah’s determination.
She replied, “Jaylah, don’t worry. I’ll take care of this matter for you.”
After ending the call, Jaylah still wore a grim expression.
She couldn’t comprehend the madness that had possessed Indesit Jewelry, collaborating with the entertainment industry. However, it presented an opportunity for her.
If she could secure this collaboration, her standing in the entertainment industry would soar.
Previously, Mason had been displeased because of this issue, and winning this collaboration would bring him joy.
The Read family would also ascend to a higher echelon among the wealthy elites of Innisrial.
The more she thought about it, the more Jaylah couldn’t contain her excitement.
Gradually, her complexion transformed from dark to a victorious glow of joy.
When Mikayla Read entered the room, she saw her sister inexplicably happy and asked suspiciously, “Jaylah, what’s going on? Why are you suddenly so cheerful?”
Hearing Mikayla’s voice, Jaylah suppressed her smile, looked at her disapprovingly, and said, “Didn’t I tell you to knock before entering my room? What’s wrong with you?”
Mikayla showed no fear of Jaylah’s disapproval. She casually sat on Jaylah’s bed, grabbed a pillow, crossed her legs, and remarked, “Jaylah, spare me the details. Why are you so grumpy?”
Jaylah felt helpless, but she wasn’t truly angry with her.
She inquired, “Tell me, what do you want from me?”
Mikayla wouldn’t come to her if she didn’t need something, and all she did in Jaylah’s room was math tests.
Jaylah couldn’t understand the appeal of math. What was so great about it? Why did Mikayla enjoy taking tests so much?
Mikayla responded, “That’s the thing. I heard you and August are working together. Could you please get me an autographed photo of him?”
Upon hearing this, Jaylah stared at Mikayla in astonishment.
She maintained the gaze for a while before asking, “Are you starstruck?”
