Chapter 34 My husband is still waiting for me at home

As Matilda presented the black rose, the man’s expression shifted from anger to sheer horror.
His eyes widened with the fear of death. It was a mixture of anger, fear, and desperate prayer.
Unfazed by the man’s plea, Matilda smiled wickedly, paying no heed to his desperate cries.
She adjusted the angle of the rose and left, carrying the safe in her arms.
Once Matilda was back in the car, the Hank family’s vehicle exploded.
The car was utterly destroyed, leaving no chance of survival.
Matilda observed the flames indifferently, waiting until the explosion subsided before issuing a command, “Clean it up.”
She couldn’t afford to linger any longer and had to return home immediately.
Further delay would only invite significant trouble.
Matilda started the car and drove to the airport.
The private jet was prepared and ready for takeoff upon her arrival.
Only when Matilda boarded the plane did she finally breathe a sigh of relief.
She dialed Aimee’s number and spoke bluntly, “This time, the payment better satisfy me.”
Aimee, on the other end of the line, had grown accustomed to Matilda’s money-driven nature.
Aimee responded, “Once the item arrives, you’ll receive the payment as promised.”
Matilda glanced at the safe beside her and sighed, “Are you afraid I’ll lose it for you?”
Aimee replied, “I’m not concerned about that. I’m more worried about leaving any traces that could lead to people hunting you down.”
Matilda rolled her eyes. If Aimee wasn’t present, she would still be holding back her frustrations. But with Aimee right there, she promised herself that she would show her dissatisfaction through her actions.
However, after staring at the safe for a while, Matilda suddenly realized something was amiss.
“Aimee, I need to tell you something. Stay calm,” Matilda said.
Aimee fell silent. Even without seeing her, Matilda knew she must have a displeased expression.
Swallowing hard, Matilda continued, “Aimee, it seems that this safe can only be opened by the person it belongs to.”
Aimee gritted her teeth. “So?”
“If he doesn’t come to open it himself, forcing it open might trigger an explosion,” Matilda revealed.
Although it was merely speculation at the moment, Matilda had encountered this type of safe before. It was designed to prevent any leaks of information.
Legend had it that during the creation of this safe, five testers lost their lives due to failed experiments. It wasn’t until the sixth attempt that they succeeded.
Supposedly, only three of these safes were ever made. One was blown up, and the whereabouts of the remaining two were unknown even to Matilda.
Now, as she stared at the safe before her, Matilda couldn’t help but feel a mix of anger and amusement.
The Hank family had truly gone to great lengths, resorting to the use of such an intricate safe.
Matilda asked Aimee, “What should we do? If we take it back, can we open it?”
Aimee’s voice came through the receiver, cold and accompanied by a faint electric hiss, sending shivers down Matilda’s spine.
“What do you think?” Aimee gritted her teeth.
Could it be opened? Wasn’t that the whole point?
This safe had to be opened, no matter what.
Matilda didn’t dare to tease Aimee any further. She said, “Aimee, I believe in you. You will surely find a way.”
Aimee abruptly ended the call, her face clouded with anger.
The fact that the Hank family possessed this method infuriated her.
Well, that was just great. Absolutely fantastic.
Aimee was so furious that she burst into laughter.
She couldn’t be overwhelmed by such a trivial problem. She would obtain everything she desired.
Aimee opened a program to access the blueprint of the safe when someone knocked on her office door.
Swiftly changing her phone’s interface to her everyday display, she called out, “Come in.”
Liam entered, holding an insulated box in his hands, smiling gently and amiably as he approached Aimee.
“Dr. Read, you must be exhausted today. I heard about the challenging operation you and Professor Bauer performed. I wanted to go and see it, but I had an operation myself. Fortunately, both our procedures were demanding,” Liam said.
Aimee maintained her indifferent demeanor and did not engage in conversation with him willingly.
Undeterred, Liam opened the insulated lunch box on his own and said, “Dr. Read, this is the chicken soup my mother specially made. I thought you hadn’t eaten in such a long time, so I brought it for you.”
Aimee declined, “No, I’m not hungry.”
“Dr. Read, look at how thin you are. You never pay attention to eating. As doctors, it’s always an issue. We always make sure our patients eat regularly and well, but we can’t do the same for ourselves,” Liam said, pouring out the chicken soup and pushing it towards Aimee. “Don’t be polite. My mother’s soup is excellent. You’ll like it if you give it a try.”
Aimee glanced at the chicken soup but made no move to accept it.
She looked up at Liam and said, “Thank you, Dr. Thomas, but I really don’t need it. I’m about to pack up and head home. My husband is waiting for me.”
After uttering those words, Aimee stood up, removed her white coat, grabbed her bag, and prepared to leave.
Liam was completely taken aback by her words, unable to react for a moment.
Hastily, Liam caught up with Aimee and asked, “Dr. Read, what did you just say? Your husband?”
Aimee smiled and replied, “Yes, I haven’t had a chance to tell you, but I’m married. We haven’t made it public yet. When we have our wedding, I’ll invite you all.”
With that, Aimee walked out, leaving Liam in a state of disbelief.
A passing nurse noticed Liam standing blankly in Aimee’s office and inquired suspiciously, “Dr. Thomas, what are you doing here? I just saw Dr. Read leave.”
Liam snapped out of his daze, forced a stiff smile, and said, “I’m leaving now.”
Without bothering to take the insulated lunch box, he hastily exited Aimee’s office, leaving behind a trail of confusion.
