Chapter 23 She’s really angry

Innisrial General Hospital.
Aimee had a busy morning, and as she made her way to the cafeteria, she encountered Liam blocking her path.
“Dr. Read, ready for lunch? What would you like to eat? It’s on me,” Liam said.
Aimee glanced at him, a hint of impatience in her eyes, but she still responded politely, “No, Dr. Thomas, I have a surgery scheduled for the afternoon, so I’ll grab something and head back.”
“Come on now, the busier you are, the more you need to eat well. Don’t worry about being polite. The food at Cornish Pasty is amazing. You should give it a try,” Liam suggested.
Aimee couldn’t help but frown, finding this person incredibly bothersome.
She had actually come to the cafeteria with the intention of enjoying a Cornish pasty, but with Liam standing in her way, it significantly dampened her appetite.
“It’s really not necessary, Dr. Thomas. I’m in a hurry, so I won’t keep you. Goodbye,” Aimee replied, slightly irritated.
After speaking, Aimee turned and walked towards the section where bread and sandwiches were sold. She couldn’t help but curse Liam silently in her mind, all while stealing a glance at the coveted Cornish pasty.
Unbeknownst to Liam, he missed Aimee’s actions. He simply watched her walk away, enter the bakery, buy a sandwich and a bottle of orange juice, and then leave.
A doctor from the same department patted Liam on the shoulder and remarked, “Dr. Read is known as the icy beauty of our hospital. If you want to win her over, you’ll have to work hard.”
Liam twitched the corner of his mouth and asked, “Blake, tell me honestly, am I not good-looking enough? Or maybe I lack skills? Why do other doctors and nurses show interest in me, but she completely ignores me?”
Blake responded, “Dr. Read is different, indeed.”
Among the doctors and nurses he knew, he hadn’t encountered someone quite like her.
Aimee was dedicated, hardworking, and highly attentive to her patients. Given her level of commitment, her medical skills should have skyrocketed, and she should have received a higher professional title by now. She participated in many major operations, but always under the guidance of her mentor.
Blake added, “To be honest, I don’t think Dr. Read is cut out to be a doctor.”
Liam glanced at him, but he wasn’t offended by the remark. In fact, he seemed to agree with it.
For talented doctors like themselves, Aimee seemed like someone who worked hard but made no progress, setting her apart from them.
However, Aimee possessed a stunning beauty. The first time he laid eyes on her, even when she was covered in blood, her appearance remained unaffected. She was even more captivating and beautiful.
With just one glance, Liam had made up his mind. He wanted this woman.
No one would have guessed that despite spending over a year at Innisrial General Hospital, Liam hadn’t even had a proper conversation with Aimee, let alone making any progress.
Lately, Aimee seemed to grow more impatient with his attempts and cast cold glances his way, sending shivers down his spine.
Liam refused to accept this, as he had never failed to win over a woman before.
For Aimee, he was determined to succeed.
Unaware of Liam’s thoughts, Aimee walked back with her sandwich and orange juice when her phone rang.
It played a unique ringtone.
Aimee paused, pulled out her phone, and glanced at the screen.
This was a small program exclusively used by the four of them to communicate when important matters arose. Only the four of them were aware of its existence. However, they rarely used this form of communication, opting for What’s App to coordinate instead.
Because of this, the distinct ringtone hadn’t been heard in a long time.
The sudden sound surprised and puzzled Aimee. What could it be?
However, when she read the message displayed on the screen, Aimee was almost infuriated.
“Aimee, someone from Patrick Hayden’s side contacted us. They want us to investigate someone.”
Beneath the message, Aimee could sense the sender’s satisfaction.
What followed after that initial sentence was her own name.
It seemed amusing to have herself investigated.
Aimee pursed her lips and inquired, “How much is the offer?”
“Currently, our lowest price is 90 million,” the person replied.
Aimee dissatisfiedly scoffed. Did they really think they could uncover her information with a mere 90 million?
“What’s your suggestion? Should we decline?” the person asked without waiting for Aimee’s response.
A slight twitch appeared at the corner of Aimee’s mouth as she replied, “Why decline? It’s a great opportunity to make a lot of money. Are you dim-witted?”
The person quickly responded, “So, what do you mean…”
“Tell them that the amount is insufficient, so we won’t proceed with the investigation,” Aimee instructed.
The implication was that with an increase in the payment, everything would be smooth sailing.
However, the exact amount was not for her to decide alone.
“Alright, I understand. Don’t worry, I’ll handle this matter for you,” the person assured her.
Aimee exited the program, deciding not to dwell on the issue any longer.
Her expression grew increasingly complex.
Patrick had become suspicious of her, to the extent of investigating her through the Growlers.
It appeared that she had indeed been exposed.
Aimee felt a bit downcast. She had been exceedingly cautious, so what had she done wrong to make Patrick initiate an investigation?
The more she pondered, the more Aimee felt that he must have discovered something just last night.
And yet, that bastard had the audacity to endure it all night, merely observing her as she worked for him.
He had gone too far.
Aimee fiercely bit into her sandwich, as if it wasn’t the sandwich in her mouth, but rather Patrick’s flesh.
Asshole, asshole, asshole.
She was truly furious.
