Chapter 22 I still want to invite my enemy

Camdyn, fearful of facing Patrick’s questioning, abruptly left Patrick’s room after exchanging harsh words.
Patrick savored Camdyn’s words with a playful air, as if he were the grandson-in-law and Aimee the biological granddaughter.
He had a vague suspicion that perhaps Aimee had some connection to his grandfather.
Of course, he didn’t believe there was a blood relation between them. Otherwise, Aimee wouldn’t be his wife.
So, what was the reason behind Camdyn taking Aimee so seriously?
Patrick pondered for a long time but couldn’t reach a conclusion.
He called in Trace and explained, “Go and investigate everyone Aimee has been in contact with since birth, and thoroughly gather information on the Read family.”
Trace received the order, but it gave him a headache.
Ever since the moment Camdyn introduced Aimee to Patrick, they had already investigated the Read family and gathered all available information on Aimee. They had left no stone unturned.
Now, Patrick wanted them to investigate again, leaving them with no starting point.
Just when Trace was about to muster the courage to ask Patrick for an explanation, to see if he could provide any clues, Bailey Hughes, who had been working alongside him, suddenly suggested, “Trace, why don’t we try reaching out to the hackers from the Growlers? Their people can find information that seems impossible to obtain.”
Trace contemplated the idea for a while before responding, “I’m afraid that won’t work. We had a conflict with the Growlers before. They caused us to lose 800 million in just seven minutes. If Mr. Hayden finds out we’re seeking their help, he won’t be pleased.”
“But Trace, our team can’t find anything else,” Bailey insisted.
Trace nervously ran his fingers through his hair, but he didn’t dare contact the Growlers behind Patrick’s back.
After much hesitation, Trace mustered up the courage to enter Patrick’s room once again, as if facing certain death. He avoided direct eye contact with Patrick and cautiously asked, “Mr. Hayden, could we possibly seek assistance from the Growlers?”
Patrick’s eyes turned cold upon hearing this, and he stared fixedly at Trace, exerting an unbearable pressure.
Trace lowered his head even further, feeling like he wanted to disappear. What was he thinking, mentioning the Growlers in front of Patrick?
Others might not know, but Trace was well aware.
It was the conflict between Patrick and the Growlers in the past. Although Patrick emerged victorious, the Growlers had indeed cost him 800 million.
While the money meant nothing to Patrick, Trace knew just how much he despised the Growlers for their audacity in provoking them. That arrogant attitude had ignited a burning desire in Patrick, who was typically composed, to eliminate the Growlers.
It was also the first time Trace witnessed Patrick’s fierce fighting abilities. When their top hackers were unable to defend themselves, Patrick turned the tide and defeated the Growlers.
Following that incident, even the most arrogant bosses with preconceived notions about Patrick became fully convinced and willingly followed his lead.
Having not received any instructions from Patrick for a while, Trace finally dared to raise his head and secretly glance at Patrick, only to find him half-smiling while looking back. As Trace’s gaze met Patrick’s, he said, “Trace, are you suggesting that my team isn’t as capable as the Growlers? Are you saying my people can’t find what I need to investigate, so I have to rely on my enemies for help?”
“No, Mr. Hayden,” Trace wanted to bash his head against the wall. He attempted to calm himself down and replied, “It’s just that you are our most formidable asset, Mr. Hayden.”
Patrick almost burst out laughing at Trace’s words.
“So, what you’re telling me now is that I either have to do it myself or seek help from the Growlers?” Patrick felt frustrated that he couldn’t physically confront Trace at the moment, or else he would have strangled him.
Trace didn’t dare to say anything more, even though that was exactly what he had in mind.
Surprisingly, Patrick’s anger subsided. He changed the subject abruptly and told Trace, “Alright, go ahead and contact the Growlers. I want to see what they can uncover for me.”
Trace looked at Patrick in astonishment, making sure there was no trace of irony in his words. Swallowing hard, he responded, “Very well, Mr. Hayden, I’ll make the arrangements immediately.”
Patrick didn’t waste any more time on idle talk and simply stated, “Get to it right away. You seem to enjoy being beaten, don’t you?”
Trace hastily left Patrick’s room.
Although it was impossible for Patrick to harm him now, that didn’t prevent Trace from feeling genuinely terrified.
It was just puzzling. Trace couldn’t comprehend why Patrick suddenly agreed.
Since when did Patrick become so agreeable?
