“Because you said you loved me…” she chuckled in disbelief as he glanced around as though confused.
“I did?” he asked with raised brows after a while. After noticing her hardly saying anything more except stare at him in disappointment. “then it was probably a joke.”
“You can’t just… you can’t just pretend like it didn’t happen…” she sighed out in disbelief. “you even kissed me yesterday… don’t be like this… Harley.”
“I don’t remember.” He shrugged his shoulders slightly. “I mean… I’m just your best friend… I don’t really have feelings for you. So I wouldn’t kiss you. You’re just like a sister to me.” He furrowed his brows as she clenched her jaw with slightly moister eyes.
“so you’re telling me that… the fact that Ace and I mated yesterday doesn’t bother you at all?” she asked and he glanced around with a shrug of her shoulders.
“if you like him that much I don’t think it would bother me.” He smiled slightly. “I can’t control who you like. So like a brother I won’t stop you.” He reached out and ruffled her hair, only to have her grabb his wrist, stopping his hand from ruffling her hair more and shoved his hand aside, startling him.
“How can you behave like this!?” she hissed out in anger as she glared at him. “how can you pretend like it was all just a dream or make up belief I made up when it’s true!?” she screamed out. “you can’t just tell your long best friend you love her, then kiss her and then pretend she made it up!”
He eased his shoulders and glanced towards the ground as he sighed out, running a hand through his hair. He bit onto his lip as she clenched her jaw tightly, balling he fists tightly as she glared at him. He glanced back at her and frowned slightly.
“sorry.” He nodded his head. “I don’t know where all this is coming from but-,”
“I hate you…” she hissed out, smacking the tablet into his chest, luckily he caught it before it could fall. She turned from him and walked back into the mansion in pure rage, leaving Harley outside alone in front of the mansion.
As she disappeared behind the closed doors, Harley dropped his smile into a deep frown, sighing out shakily as he glanced up at the sky with the nervousness he was holding back since that breakfast morning.
Despite his perfect acting, he was battling all his emotions from within his own body and refusing to pour it out.
He really felt heart broken the moment he saw the hickeys around her body the last night and wanted to confront her about it in the morning. But the moment he reached his room and spent nearly an hour unable to sleep and deep in thought, he discovered all this happened because he confessed to her.
If he could have the power to rewind time itself, he would have gone back in time to stop himself from confessing to her that night.
He sighed out, running his fingers across his face as he bit onto his lower lip. Feeling the nagging and painful feeling of yesterday amplify itself once more, making him feel nauseated in an instant.
He knew the pain of knowing why she chose Ace over him was just unbearable than simply pretending he was just her best friend.
Without wasting much of his time, he decided best better head off and start with the journey preparations without her. Since it was better off that way, simply looking at her was hurtful enough.
Hope sighed out heavily as she leaned agaisnt the closed door, clenching onto her teeth as she balled her fingers into tight fists.
She bit onto her lower lip and frowned as she glanced up at the ceiling while the guard beside her only stared in wonder.
“is everything alright?” the guard asked as he stared with raised brows, getting Hope to sigh out and shake her head in denial.
“No.” she leaned away from the door. “how far is the west Valentine pack from here?”
“could take three or four days at most.” He nodded to himself as he rubbed his thumb against the back of his chin as he thought. “but taking the fact that you will be travelling with the new pack members, it might take longer. Because you will need two more cars.”
“Oh okay. Thank you.” She smiled before opening the door again, taking in a deep breath as she stepped out.
If he was going to simply ignore everything, she had to pretend as well. It was the only way to make things less complicated between them.
The moment she stepped out, she met Harley’s gaze. He raised his brows in wonder after giving her a rather confused stare.
He felt his heart flatter as she continued to stare at him with a waiting expression, as though waiting for him to say something. He then blinked a few times, snapping back into reality as he pulled on a smile.
“Ready to start preparing?” he asked, getting her to frown slightly as she glanced at the ground.
There was no way he was going to speak to her now.
“um.. yeah.” She nodded with a forced weak smile as she walked towards him. “what are we starting with then?” she asked and he grinned out and glanced down at his tablet, scrolling through the endless list of things they need to prepare for.
“we need to pack on food, tents water and beddings. As well as clothes to change into once we arrive at the pack since they’ll be hosting a selection ceremony.” He explained and she nodded slowly as she glanced ahead glancing around the place and at the people walking by, all seeming to simply go about their own day.
She pressed her lips together as they simply stood there for a while in silence, getting Harley to glance down at her in confusion since she hadn’t said anything else.
“Are we going now or…?” he asked and she sighed out slowly.
“Yeah.” She nodded with a chuckle getting him to ease his shoulders and turn ahead, leading the way. “I’m sorry…” she said in a near whisper as she glanced up at his back. He don’t seem to react, he didn’t seem to hear it.
