Kelvin watched as Jason stared at the floor in horror, unable to move for a moment as he clenched onto the clothes, feeling very uncomfortable and regretting his actions that night.
He didn’t know she was going to be fertile that night. He didn’t expect… No. Not that didn’t, he wasn’t even given enough room and time to react to her sudden change in emotions and actions towards him.
He was taken completely by surprise and he only responded naturally.
Emily was someone who he would trust, someone he could talk to and feel as though he had been heard. Someone he would regret leaving.
So that night as he was worrying about his own divorce plans and pouring it out on him, and when she seduced him into mating with her made it an easy mission.
But after he processed what was happening after he woke up before the sun rose, he realised he made a horrible mistake. So he left, because he was a married man and a beta. He was only trying to protect her and him at the same time. She would be called out for being obsessed with married men and since she was an outsider, thing wouldn’t look great…
“When did you find you?” Jason asked through a rusty windy breath as he glanced up at Kelvin.
“Yesterday morning. Right after we left the table.” Kelvin sighed out as he glanced up at the ceiling now, clenching into the covers of the bed as he recalled Emily’s words. “She wants me to take responsibility just so she can be able to protect you. She’s worried that you would end up being the main topic of the entire pack and how a married man slept with the alpha’s daughter. She thought it would hurt you, so instead of hurting you, I should be the one carrying the problems that you two created.”
Jason stared as Kelvin spoke, knowing too well how reluctant Kelvin was being with the idea of raising his child. Jason wouldn’t force Emily to abort it, mostly because he had always been against the act and would rather have himself risk his entire pride for the baby.
But in Emily’s case…. She would get criticised. Not everyone accepted her.
Not everyone is happy until now.
“Please accept it…” Jason said quietly as he glanced at the ground and clenched his fists even tighter. “For Emily’s sake…”
“There it is again.” Kelvin clenched his jaw as he glared towards Jason. “Why should I have to carry your burdens?” He asked, not getting furious. “Wasn’t I an annoying guy to you? A useless annoying guy who’s completely selfish and obsessive?”
“I’m sorry.” Jason sighed out, running a hand through his thick short hair as he glanced up at him. “I know I showed how irritated I was with you around. But you have to understand that me and Emily… We can’t… We weren’t supposed to-”
“I don’t care about what you go through if it’s all known!” Kelvin hissed out as he stood up and glared towards Jason who pressed his lips together with a nervous look on his face. “Now because all this is messed up you know think I’m useful!?” He hissed out. “I want someone to love me, not that I have to live with a woman who won’t even love me because she loves a man she wants to protect. The both of you want to protect each other, but why can’t you protect me too? I’ll be the one hurt the most from your decisions and you think it’s fair!?”
“You just have to understand-”
“There isn’t anything to understand!” Kelvin hissed out in anger. “Just be together! Go to Emily and make her your mate, that shouldn’t be too hard! I for one would be willing to risk it all just to have someone I can love for the rest of my life. But the both of you are so afraid of your pride that it disgusts me!”
“Its not about pride, Kelvin.” Jason sighed out as he watched Kelvin clench his jaw and fists. “We both know by now that Emily wasn’t part of the pack from birth. She’s adopted. There are a lot that haven’t accepted her until now and having such news circulate might cause trouble for her.”
“But her parents will live her the same.” Kelvin eased his shoulders as he tried to calm himself. “She won’t be abandoned by anyone. And on top of it, she’ll have you, someone she really loves and despite all the rumors that will spread, she’ll still be happy because she has you…. Why can’t you see that?”
Jason remained quiet as Kelvin sighed out, glancing around the room for a moment. Still not wanting to have to do their bidding for them. It was their own problem and they both had to grow up and take responsibility.
“Take responsibility for your actions, you’re older than me, you should know that. I know it’s stressful and you both have great reasons for it, but I’m not willing to sacrifice myself for people who didn’t really care about me and how I feel. I’m not a tool or some sort of decoration. I wouldn’t forgive you if I had to endure it for the rest of my life. So in order to protect myself, I want you to announce it through your own mouth to everyone that you love Emily and want to spend the rest of your life with her. Because I won’t.” Kelvin shrugged his shoulders as Jason sighed out uneasily, nodding his head in understanding.
“That was childish of me to put you on the spot like that.” Jason nodded to his own words as he bit onto his lower lip. “You really don’t need to take responsibility for it. I should, as the older one here I should also fix this. You’re right about… Me and Emily being selfish towards you…. And your feelings. We completely disregarded you and thought we were more important. I’m sorry.”
“At least you understand.” Kelvin sighed out as he ran a hand through his hair, relaxing even more. “Don’t tell Emily I told you. Find a way to find out she’s pregnant by yourself. Don’t act like you know or shell get really nervous and it won’t be healthy for her. Just confess to her maybe and she’ll tell you openly. She seems calm right now but she’s extremely worried about the whole issue so I accepted to take responsibility to calm her down. But I hope you don’t take too long, Jason.”
“I won’t…” He nodded with a sigh before Kelvin left the room, leaving Jason alone with a pile of heavy thoughts to himself.
