Chapter 56

As the morning rays peeped from behind the curtains and into the dark room that Jason was lying in, he couldn’t help but feel the tension of the rest of the day despite just starting it.
Melanie had woken up an hour before the sun had just risen so she could get her things ready and pack for her leave with Kelvin’s father who was coming today just to check up on things and as well, take Melanie.
Jason on the other hand began to regret the idea of actually moving into the mansion where it would only cause so much unease between him and Emily. He couldn’t see her as the little child he always though she was. All he could now see was a grown beautiful woman with an angelic childish charm all residing in her.
He turned over his pillow and sighed out, watching as the breath became so visible in front of him in a white fog.
It was dangerously cold thus morning since he was the verge of winter. Winter was bound to fall within five weeks if not seven. At least that was what the weather man had said last week. But that wasn’t a problem for them, they had well prepared long ahead for it.
He curled underneath the thick fur blanket and sighed out once more as he pulled the blanket over his head, staring into the darkness under the covers as he suddenly thought of Emily’s birthday. The day he had seen her as a woman.
Still confused with himself, he didn’t know whether it was just because he was a man or maybe because he was just blind to his own feelings about her.
‘No. That’s not it…’ He said to himself as he curled into a ball and hugged his knees to his chest, though it was might uncomfortable but he still insisted. Melanie’s footsteps could be heard coming back into the room and walking around with the sound of the drawers and closet opening and closing.
“Are you going to be in bed all morning?” Melanie asked as she glanced over her shoulder to Jason who still remained fully covered under the covers. “Anyway… I decided not to take full custody of the house, instead I’ll just leave it as it is.” She pointed out as she clicked her tongue. “Instead I’ll share the rent profits with you. Unless you want to live in it, you’ll have to buy it since you know we both sold my old house for the both of us.” She explained as she pulled her fur coat from the hangers and pulled it on, trying to keep away the cold. “Are you listening?”
“I’m listening.” He said underneath the blankets, still sulking in the heat than the piercing cold lingering just outside. “I don’t mind either way.” He said as he finally sighed and peered through the blanket. He darted his eyes around the room until they landed on Melanie who was now sitting at the edge of the king sized bed and pulling on her fur boots. “I don’t want to buy it either. It is ridiculously expensive.” He rolled his eyes as he leaned back onto his pillow and stared at the ceiling instead.
“That’s why I said ‘if you wanted’.” She glared at him though he wasn’t looking and rolled her eyes before standing up and glancing down at him. “I’ve packed what I need. Sell the rest or I don’t know.” She sighed out, shoving her hands into her coat as the coldness ate at her skin. “I’ll be on my way. You better get out and file the papers then move out. Mr and Mrs Willow will be having a baby soon and want move out of their old house since it’s really small. So I offered them this one and they’ll move in tomorrow.” She explained and he nodded as he sat up, exposing his too naked half to the intense coldness.
“So… Uh… Good life?” He asked with a small shrug of Hus shoulders as he raised his brows. She sighed out, shaking her head slowly.
“I’ve never noticed that you are socially awkward, Jason.” She pressed her lips together and walked towards the door. “Goodbye Jason, I doubt this is the last we meet but it won’t be sooner or later. Just much much later.” She waved without much of a smile before disappearing into the corridor.
Jason sighed out as he glanced down at his chest instead, unable to figure out what he should really be doing.
“Oh yes.” Melanie suddenly reappeared on the doorway. “Good luck with Emily.” She said, without a smile as well.
She didn’t encourage it because she just didn’t like the idea that a child such as Emily could end up stealing a man from her. Of course with Emily their year difference was roughly seven. But it wasn’t sitting right with Melanie that she lost to a child that wasn’t even born when she was seven years old.
She had high hopes for Jason in becoming the alpha of the pack despite his constant reluctance. But she knew that Valentine was bound to be retiring soon and would be looking for the next alpha. Her ambitions for Jason was that he would end up sitting on that spot had Kelvin not shown up.
But she knew Kelvin wasn’t strong enough to even be an alpha. He was more of an outsider than he was part of the pack. That was the difference. Kelvin might become the beta for his great knowledge skills but the role of the alpha just didn’t belong to him. Unlike Jason, Kelvin just didn’t posses the ‘alpha’s blood’ type.
The alpha’s blood did not literally mean having the blood of an alpha, as a matter of fact no.
Having the alpha’s blood just meant that the possessor was just born with that aroma and destiny to become the alpha. Wasting Jason away in the beta position was just hurtful to watch. It was clear as day light that Jason deserved to become alpha.
