“I don’t.” He cleared his throat as he glanced towards his fingers, lacing hem together as nervousness ate at him slowly. “You’re just making assumptions. But the reason for divorcing you isn’t Emily. The reasons I gave you are in fact the reasons.”
“Well I not arguing you your point. But I just want to let you know that you have to accept your feelings sometimes. You don’t need to take time to act on them. That only makes it hard for the people around you to cope with your sudden changes.” She rolled her eyes as she walked towards the hall, leaving Jason in the dining room alone and in silence with his thoughts.
He chewed onto his lower lip and sighed out as he ran a hand through his hair, leaning back into the seat.
Moments later, Melanie walked back into the room with a pen. She leaned against the table as she flipped the pages and straight towards the signature space.
Figures, Jason had already signed the paper before asking if she was okay with it. However. That wasn’t as surprising to her since he wouldn’t have brought the papers if he was not going to sign anyway.
She quickly scribbled on her signature and flipped back the papers before handing them over to Jason who clenched his jaw as he stood up, talking the papers. She pressed her lips together as she watched him check the signature before shoving the papers into the envelope.
“So what will you do after now?” He asked as he glanced up at her, connecting their gaze.
“Well,” she smiled as she looked around the house and glanced back at him, grinning out. “I want the house and everything that belongs in it. As the beta, you can stay in the mansion with ease. If you don’t gibe me the house I will have no where else to be. As you remember, my parents passed away long ago and their house was sold for the both of us to gain from.” She said as he shifted his gaze towards the floor instead. Trying to analyse her claim precisely.
It was true that they had sold her parent’s house so they could build this one and enlarge it. It was also true that he could stay in the mansion with Alpha Valentine and his family. In fact, he was offered the option but denied it since Melanie wanted to live separate from them, just so she doesn’t feel as though she’s under someone’s roof and rules. She wanted a home she could dominate. But not just any house, a bigger… Much bigger house.
“Fine.” Jason nodded as he sighed out and glanced down at the envelope. “I’ll have it documented tomorrow then with the things you’ll own. I’ll leave some money for you, since it’s requested I do so. It won’t be much but at least it is until you get on your own feet.”
“I’m not helpless.” She rolled her eyes. “I don’t depend on you all the time. I’m an independent woman.” She frowned as he nodded slowly. “When are you moving out?”
“Tomorrow.” He said as he glanced towards her. “The sooner the better, isn’t it?” He asked and she rose a brow as she nodded slowly, crossing her arms over her chest.
“It’s almost as though you really wanted to leave so badly.” She rolled her eyes mockingly as she took the dishes off the table and walked to the sink. “But I’m not complaining. I was planning to live in the city anyway with my cousin, Kelvin’s father. He’s going to find me a job and I will rent this house here in the meantime to get myself together. Plus I just love that extra money.” She said without turning to him. Getting him to sigh out as he nodded to himself. Verifying that she really was just a woman that really just loved the thought of having money.
“Right.” He simply said as he glanced over to her, watching as she wiped the dishes she had just cleaned. “How long will you be gone for then?”
“I don’t intend to come back.” She shrugged her shoulder as she turned to face him, leaning against the counter with a small smile. “The women around here would gossip about me day in and day out. I have no time to deal with them about the situation between us. They would notice how neither of us are affected deeply by it and they would want answers.” She sighed out, combing through her hair with her fingers as she loosened her black hair, letting through some air as it felt congested.
“It’s almost like you want me to go through it instead.” Jason chuckled out as he leaned against the kitchen arch.
“Then come to the city too.” She shrugged her shoulders, walking to the over head drawers and pulling out a glass tumbler. “You can be an alpha here, but there are really great spots in companies willing to pay much more than you get here.”
“It’s just like here. You work hard to get to the top. Besides, I don’t have any of the human certificates to even find a decent job there. It would only be suicide.” He said as she nodded, filling her glass with water. “How do you think you’ll get a job there? You don’t have any certificate either.”
“My cousin has many branches in his company, so he has a spot I can fit it quite nicely and earn more than I want to have. I’ll be earning for a very little effort in something I’m dreadfully good at.” She chuckled out then chugged down the water in the tumbler.
“And what is the thing you’re good at?” He asked as she watched her finish off her water before sighing out and turning on the tap, rinsing it off before grabbing the drying towel.
“I’m good at bossing people around.” She shrugged her shoulders as she wiped he glass dry before placing it back into the shelf. “I’m also good at organizing. So I’ll be an organising manager. Or something similar to that.” She nodded as she turned to him.
“Oh.” He nodded slowly and glanced towards the ground. “You have a whole future planned out already.”
“You gave me an entire month to think about it.” She shrugged her shoulder and walked towards the arch. “I’m a woman. Never underestimate women, I only depended on you because I just felt like it. But I can stand on my own two feet if I wanted.” She smiled, patting his shoulder before disappearing into the corridor, heading into the bedroom since it was well in the night.
Jason sighed out once more as he had to think about the chances of meeting Emily every single day until he gets another place to stay.
The thought alone was dreadful.
