Chapter 52

Jason sighed out as he ran a hand through his hair, rinsing off the foam from the shampoo in his hair. Letting the bubbles and soapy water run down his body as he stared at the tiled floor, watching the water rush down his feet and out of the shower cubical, through the metal mesh and into the darkness of the pipes.
He pinched his brows together, feeling a little tied between two poles, unsure of what to do.
Melanie, in the kitchen quietly prepared their dinner, though her eyes couldn’t help but drift towards the files that Jason had brought with in, perfectly sealed in an envelope. He left it on the counter, probably wanting her to take a look at it without really telling her. But she didn’t want to, knowing exactly what it was.
Irritated flowed through her body as she glared at the eggs sizzling in the frying pan. Her anger being fueled with every ‘sizzle’.
Jason stepped out of the hot steamy shower and immediately wiped himself dry before throwing on his robe and walking out of the bedroom and straight towards the kitchen where Melanie was just finishing the eggs, placing them into two plates with already prepared Chinese fried rice and boiled vegetables. An absolute delicacy.
Jason raised his brows as he noticed Melanie was cooking this time, expect the maid she demanded he hired since she was very reluctant to do most of the house chores.
“What happened to the maid?” Jason asked as he sat on the dinning table and watched as she walked over and placed his plate in front of him before sitting down across from him with hers.
“I doubt you’d want her here for the reason of that envelope.” She said without glancing at him as she began to pour some apple juice into a tumbler. “So I sent her home and did the cooking myself. Not that it’s anything special or to try to change your thoughts.”
Jason stared at her for a moment before standing up and walking towards the envelope, noticing it wasn’t even opened.
“How do you know what it’s for if you didn’t open it?” He asked as he walked back to the table and placed it on the centre of the table before sitting down.
“I’m not a child or some stupid woman, Jason.” She frowned as she glared at him and sighed out. “I know they are divorce papers. You mentioned it to me last month, hadn’t you? So why shouldn’t I assume they are?”
“Okay.” Jason nodded as he grabbed his form and took some of the rice into his mouth, almost surprised she would cook this great.
Of course she was amazing at cooking countless foods. The only problem was that she just didn’t want to. She just never liked the idea of spending hours trying to cook something when she could be doing other things.
One of the reasons he couldn’t put up with her.
Not that she had other things to do. She just though that now that she was a beta’s wife, she shouldn’t be working.
That was what she thought and believed in.
They ate in silence with the only sound of other people talking outside or in their houses and the sound of the crickets outside and around them.
During dinner or any other meal time, Jason and Melanie just really had nothing to talk about. Not that they hated each other or just really had a silent nature, as a matter of fact, it was the opposite.
The two just never really had much to talk about. Whether it was about their day or what happened to someone they knew, they just didn’t find it thrilling to tell each other.
That was the only sad truth about them. They only talked when they had to.
Once they were both done, Melanie sighed and shoved the plates aside, reaching over to the envelope. She slide her fingers across the flap and opened it, taking the files out in an instant.
Just as she suspected they were. They were divorce papers. She clenched her jaw as she stared at the bold large letters of the word ‘divorced’.
“Where’s the pen?” She asked, still trying to keep her pride as she raised her hand out to him. “Let me get this over with.”
“Won’t you hear my reasons to why I decided this?” He asked as he stared at her for a moment, only to have her glare at him.
“Do I need to know?” She asked as she smacked the papers on the table and forcedly stood up. “Isn’t it your sweet little Emily?” She asked as she clenched her fists. “You finally got to feel your sweet little flower and decided I was just too withered to keep anymore. Why wouldn’t any man want to a young flower that still smells alluring and freshly picked?” She chuckled out forcedly as she pressed her lips together.
“It’s not because of Emily.” He frowned as he stood up as well, staring at her with furrowed brows. “I made this decision because I realised we aren’t the same person.” He explained as he watched her chuckle and roll her eyes. “We’re two different people. Plus you’re always trying to support me just to earn a little extra for you to spend non stop. You have a strong love for status and I can’t really cope with that… I’m sorry. I need someone who doesn’t mind what I have. I need someone who is real.”
“Like Emily?” She asked as she crossed her arms over her shoulders, staring at him with a disbelieving face. “You can’t lie to me, Jason. I’ve known you for almost eight years now and you can’t say Emily doesn’t suit that category that well. She’s innocent, she loves you unconditionally and she even looks up to you.” She raised Ber brows as he glanced towards the floor. “I know, Jason. You love Emily but you don’t want to admit it.” She sighed out, running a hand through her hair as she clicked her tongue. “As far as I know you’ve loved her for a while now.”
