Kelvin took in a sharp breath as he stepped out into the open, watching the laughing and smiling couples with their either newly born or simply just passing by made him feel sick in the stomach. Knowing he could only envy them and nothing more.
Emily walked out, holding a form in her hand as she stepped into the open, immediately spotting him by a small pond. She clenched the file and walked towards him with near hesitation, knowing she already pushed his buttons.
“Before you tell me, you should know I’m not just someone who would live being used as a pawn.” Kelvin spoke out as he sensed her presence behind him. Getting him to tense a little as he knew she was there to tell him the news. “I also want what they have.” He pointed towards the couple still laughing as they were holding up their giggling toddler to the sky. “Don’t they look happy to you?” He asked as he glanced over his shoulder to her, noting her eyes glued to the ground instead.
He frowned as he turned fully to her, clenching his fists.
“What does it say?” He asked with crossed brows, knowing that even though he had spilled his emotions out to her, she didn’t seem to be much concerned. Most of her concern was on Jason’s reputation.
“Just as I thought I was.” She clenched the envelope tighter as she kept her eyes to the ground. “I’m pregnant…” She whispered out shakily as she glanced up at him with a deep frown. “They asked for the father’s name on the result paper and I wrote yours…” She glanced away as he pressed his lips together and sighed out shakily.
“Anyway… It was going to be that way…” He ran his fingers through his hair as he glanced up at the clear sky. “It’s not like there was any other way. Since you want to protect Jason so much…”
She frowned at that but didn’t say anything.
“Since you wrote my name down, you have to start acting like you actually care or else I won’t be able to bear the pretend.” He explained as he glared down at her, watching as she shifted nervously on her spot. “You’ll have to stop thinking about Jason all the time.”
“How do you think I’ll be able to do that?” She asked as she glared up at him. “It’s not easy just to suddenly drop your feelings of someone you’ve liked for a long time…”
“I don’t care.” Kelvin hissed out plainly as he frowned at her. “I’m expected to sacrifice an entire lifetime of possible happiness just so you could protect someone you love?” He asked as he gazed down at her. “It’s not so easy… How do you expect me to live like that for he rest of my life? And what if you two end up becoming closer? Do you honestly expect me to just be okay with it?” He chuckled out mockingly as he glanced down at her, watching as she avoided his gaze. “If you keep treating me like I’m just someone you can use as a pan in your game of chess then I will tell everyone the truth.”
“You’ll just have people talking about you behind your back if you do that…” She said with a frown as she glanced up at him.
“You suddenly care now?” He asked with raised brows. “Or is it just about you? But I don’t care, a little shame isn’t anything compared to the never ending loop of constantly wondering if I’ll ever really fall in love.” He sighed out as he glanced towards the ground. “It may be childish of me to want to feel someone else’s love for me… But I like the idea of someone making me feel special… My dad always thinks about his business and wants me to become this man he can be proud of. Right now he’s not proud of me… Marrying you will make him acknowledge me. But how long will that last?” He asked as he glanced towards Emily who sighed out shakily.
“He’ll be proud, of course. Only when people praise him for raising such a great son.” He continued as he stared at her with sadness now. “But if I actually found someone who loved me do much… That even if I fail sometimes… They would still smile and want to make me laugh… I would feel…. I would feel complete.” He clenched his fists as he turned away from her and glanced into the pond instead. “I love the thought of it… Is it selfish to want to actually be in love?”
“It’s not wrong…” She trailed off as he notice his body shakily slightly from the anger he was probably trying to tame.
“The day I heard about you, I got excited, to be frankly honest.” He chuckled out as he scratched the back of his head and turned to face her. “I heard about you a lot from the woman that suggested you to my father. You sounded to…. You sounded like an angelic person… Someone that got torn off a page from a fairytale… Someone I fell in love with before I even got to see you…. I guest that’s why I got so demanding towards the end. I just didn’t want to accept that you just up and rejected me that easily when I had been dying to meet you. It hurt a lot.” He chuckled as she bit onto her lower lip.
“I’m sorry about that.” She said in a mummer as she clenched the envelope more tightly, feeling ashamed for it.
“But, after I had to accept the brutal reality slap, I decided to just leave you and just walk around you since my father wasn’t ready to accept it yet. But I knew he would eventually. Despite being an arrogant brute, he’s understanding sometimes.” He chuckled out as he pressed his lips together. “But then things are starting to get more complicated and I just kind of… I’m just… So lost…”
She nodded slowly, knowing how he felt when she felt the same.
