They were trying to drive Leonard away. However, Leonard was not angry at all when he saw that Abbie was on his side and he apologized respectfully, “Uncle! I’m sorry!”
Meanwhile, Abbie was sitting on the sofa indifferently. “What’s wrong with her? I’m sure she did it on purpose and I think she’s just pretending to be sick!”
“Abbie!” When Donald heard Abbie’s words, he immediately turned around and said angrily, “I know you’ve lost your memory and you don’t remember your parents, but you should still be kind. My daughter was someone with good intentions and she would always help outsiders, let alone her own mother. You’ve gone too far! I’m very disappointed in you!”
Anna also said, “Abbie, you’ve overstepped the time!”
Abbie still wanted to refute, but Leonard stopped her. “Abbie, why don’t you see me off?”
As Abbie got up and walked Leonard to the door, she muttered as she walked, “My mother is just putting on an act because she doesn’t want to agree to our relationship. Do you think she can fool us just by pretending to be sick? I won’t change my mind.”
“Well, she didn’t look too well just now. I don’t think she was pretending.”
“You can’t be too sure! Anyway, I have decided to marry you so it’s useless for them to disagree.”
Leonard was overjoyed when he heard Abbie’s words. “Thank you for trusting me! Abbie, I’ll definitely treat you well!”
“I believe that you will, but my mother will never agree to our marriage so easily. What would happen if she keeps going against us? To tell you the truth, I am very tired of them and I don’t feel any family affection for them. I am very annoyed with their attitude toward me.”
Leonard could only comfort her when he heard how she was complaining about her family. “They will definitely agree. As long as we stay together, we will find a way to convince them.”
“I doubt that would happen! Let me tell you, I heard my parents discussing that I should marry Thomas last night. I think my mother disagreed with us being together because of this.”
Leonard was taken aback by her words. “Is this true?”
“Of course! My mother told my father that Thomas was a good man and that he liked me very much before. She said that I missed the chance on being with Thomas because I was in love with that scumbag, Michael. Now that Thomas’s identity isn’t the same as before, I’ll be on top of the social ladder if I marry him. If Thomas still likes me, my parents would take a chance and hint at him about it. They even planned to let Valeria’s husband talk to Thomas about it.”
Leonard was extremely surprised when he heard Abbie’s words. He had always thought that he was the only candidate to be Abbie’s husband. Not only was he capable and rich, but he was also Abbie’s saviour. The Clark family would definitely not reject him.
Now that Abbie had mentioned Thomas, Leonard knew that he had a potential competitor. Since Thomas was the only heir of the Floyd family, the Clark family would be far more willing to cooperate with them instead of Leonard.
If the two families joined hands, he would be at a complete disadvantage. He only had one thing he could use to control Abbie now, so he had to find a way to make her loyal to him.
Leonard immediately said when he thought of this, “Do you like Thomas?”
“No!” Abbie shook her head. “I don’t have any impression of him. My parents are planning on handing me over as a bargaining chip for an arranged marriage and I’m very tired of being treated like this. I was still hesitating whether I should accept your proposal before this, but I don’t think I can wait any longer because of this.”
Leonard had doubts about Abbie’s determination to be with him before this. Now that he knew that Abbie agreed to marry him because she didn’t want to be in an arranged marriage, Leonard’s final suspicions were dispelled. “I’m very touched that you trust me so much. Don’t worry, I’ll find a way to make your parents give up on their decision.”
After Richard carried Helen into the bedroom, Anna followed him in and opened the bedside drawer in a hurry. She took out a few pills and poured them out. “Quick, give this to Auntie!”
Helen sat up and waved her hand. “I’m fine. I’m still alive!”
“Auntie, are you all right?” Anna was dumbfounded.
“Of course I am. It’s all your cousin’s fault.” Helen asked Richard angrily, “Richard, what are you trying to do? Why did you want me to pretend to be sick?”
“You were just putting on an act?” Anna also looked at Richard. “Richard, what’s going on and why didn’t you inform me in advance?! I was about to have a heart attack!”
Richard sighed and said, “Mom, it’s obvious that she’s on the same side as Leonard. She has been distant from us since she came back, so you can’t just oppose her like this. On the contrary, she will feel even more disgusted with us. This is why I asked you to act as if you’re sick, so we can find a way to deal with it slowly.”
Donald also said, “Richard is right. She’s so stubborn with her decision that we can’t confront her head-on. We have to find a way to solve this.”
“What else can we do? You’ve all seen it. She’s determined to marry that man. What would you do if she insists on going on with the marriage?”
Donald sighed and said, “What else can we do? We opposed her from being with Michael before, but things turned out to be like this. I don’t want to lose my only daughter. I can only give her my blessing if she is determined to marry Leonard.”
“What about you? Do you have the same opinion as your father?” Helen asked Richard again.
Richard shurgged and said, “What can I do if you and Dad agree with her decision?”
“How can you let Abbie be? All of you are so irresponsible for ignoring her when she has lost her memory!” Anna was anxious.
“Yes, how can you ignore her? You are her closest family, so how can you throw her aside like this?! I will not allow my daughter to marry a man who has a child. I’ll definitely be humiliated by Meadow like this, and I can’t afford to lose all of my pride!”
Helen became more anxious as she spoke. “We have to find a way to stop this. Hurry up and think of a way! Aren’t you usually full of ideas? So why are you so quiet today?”
“Even if we can come up with a plan, Abbie has to be obedient to us. She doesn’t even listen to us now, so there’s nothing she can do.” Richard shrugged again.
Helen was extremely anxious. “Then we have to find someone who can persuade her.”
“Auntie, Abbie doesn’t listen to us at all. She’ll only listen to Valeria’s advice, why don’t we ask her for help?”
“Yes, Abbie has always been very close to Valeria. They get along quite well after Abbie came back as well. I’ll call Valeria now and ask her to persuade Abbie.”
Richard and Donald did not object when Helen wanted Valeria to advise Abbie. Helen immediately got up and said, “I’ll go to the Howard family to find Valeria right now. Anna, please take me there!”
