After Evelyn was driven away, she went back to the mansion angrily. Frederick found it strange that she came back alone. “Miss, why did you come back alone? Where is Mr. Gurney?”
“I have something to attend to, so I came back. Grandpa is still there.” Evelyn returned to her room unhappily and threw her purse onto the bed. She then sat down on the sofa angrily.
Francis’s call came. “Where have you been?”
“I didn’t feel well, so I came home first!” Evelyn was afraid that Francis would find out that she was driven away because she had provoked Valeria. So she could only lie.
“You are so troublesome. Weren’t you fine when we came?” Francis was unhappy. He had taken a liking to a fine young man at the party and wanted Evelyn to meet him. Yet Evelyn had disappointed him.
“It’s not that I want to be sick. Grandpa, I have a headache, and I feel sick all over. Maybe I caught a cold. I’ll take some medicine and rest first.”
After Evelyn found an excuse to hang up the phone, another call came in. It was her bodyguard who she sent to pick up Jacelyn from the countryside. “Miss, we couldn’t find Jacelyn.”
“What do you mean?” Evelyn asked angrily.
“Jacelyn disappeared. There was no one in the shabby house we went to before. We asked the people around, and they all don’t know where she went.”
“Isn’t this absurd?” Evelyn muttered. “Keep looking. Can a person with crippled legs grow wings and fly away?”
“Miss, we’ve searched all over this shabby village and asked the people around us. They all don’t know where Jacelyn went. It’s like she disappeared! How about you ask Jacqueline if she has any other friends or relatives?”
“This is such a f*king bother. I’ll call Jacqueline!”
Evelyn hung up the phone angrily and called Jacqueline.
At this moment, Jacqueline was experiencing something that she had never experienced before. She was cleaning up after Bobby’s so-called mother.
There was a strong stench in the room. The old woman had fecal incontinence and passed motion all over the bed.
Rosario instructed Jacqueline to clean up after the old woman. Since when had Jacqueline suffered like this? As she was unwilling, Rosario threatened to call Bobby and tell on her.
Under these circumstances, Jacqueline had no choice but to clean it up. She was disgusted the whole time that she even wanted to die.
After cleaning up, Rosario asked Jacqueline to wash the sheets and bedding stained by the old woman.
Jacqueline unwillingly brought the foul-smelling bed sheets to the river.
She was utterly repulsed and felt like she couldn’t hold on any longer. But who could save her?
As Jacqueline thought this, Evelyn’s call came. She answered immediately, “Miss!”
“Jacqueline, your sister has disappeared. Do you know where she would go?”
“What? How did she disappear?”
“How do I know how did she f*king disappeared? The bodyguards couldn’t find her. Tell me. Where could she go?”
Evelyn’s tone was harsh. Jacqueline thought for a moment and said, “Miss, I can’t think of any place my sister could go. She is paralyzed, and she doesn’t have any relatives or friends staying in such a remote place. There is no place for her to go.”
“Think about it more!”
Jacqueline couldn’t figure it out. As she looked at the river in front of her for a while, she suddenly asked, “Miss, do you think my sister is dead?”
“What do you mean?” Evelyn asked.
“There is a big river next to her house. Maybe she accidentally fell into the river and drowned. I can’t think of any other reason for her disappearance.”
“Isn’t this too much of a coincidence?” Evelyn grumbled. If Jacelyn had really accidentally fallen into the river and drowned, she couldn’t ask her bodyguards to search for the body in the river either. She could only let this incident be.
Angel got out of bed a week after the operation to see the child she gave birth to.
The child was lying in the incubator with his eyes closed. Angel looked at the child and frowned.
“Why is he so ugly? Why doesn’t he look like me or his father at all?”
Of course, the child’s father that Angel mentioned was referring to Richard. Madelyn, who accompanied her, snickered in her heart. “The child might look like you. But to look like Richard, it would be impossible even in your next life.”
But she thought it secretly and didn’t say it out loud. She only said, “All the newborns are like this. It will take some time before we can see who they look like.”
“But he can’t be this ugly, right?” Angel muttered. She didn’t have any love for the child and only saw him as a bargaining chip.
Angel felt miserable seeing the child like this. At the thought that this would be her only child and she could never have a second one, she had complicated feelings.
She stared at the child for a while and felt that the child was very strange. “Why is the shape of his face so strange? His nose is so flat. And his eyes. Why does he have single eyelids? Both his father and I have double eyelids.”
“We can’t see it now. It will be better after some time.”
Angel still felt that something was wrong. “Why can’t he open his eyes since it has been a week? Is there something wrong with him?”
“There’s nothing wrong. Mr. Knight has asked the doctor to do a comprehensive examination. Besides being small in size, there’s nothing wrong with him.”
“Is that so? I thought he would be fair and adorable. I didn’t expect him to look like this. I can’t love him at all!” Angel whispered.
Madelyn pretended not to hear her. After standing for a while, Angel felt unwell. So she instructed Madelyn, “Help me back to the room!”
After they returned to the ward, Ornard called to ask about Angel’s health and her child with concern.
Angel told Ornard all her frustrations, who then comforted her for a while.
Angel was still unhappy. “When will you inform Richard that I gave birth to his child?”
Ornard replied, “I’ve thought about it. We have to inform the Floyd family about the child first and see how they react.”
“Who should inform them?” Angel asked.
“Of course, you have to do it. I have no way to stand up for you now that I have become enemies with the Floyd family. Since you are still the eldest daughter of the Floyd family, you can call them and see how they will respond.”
Angel answered resentfully, “I’ve been in the hospital for a week. The Floyd family must have known about it, yet they haven’t done anything about it. Do we still need to inform them? It will be useless!”
“You can’t say that. You were the one who angered them and was driven out. Now that the upper hand is in their hands, you have to show them your resolve. Maybe they will go soft and stand up for you to the Clark family.” Ornard was unwilling to give up.
Angel also had a glimmer of hope. Since the child had been born, Fandrey, Deborah, and Callum’s anger should have subsided no matter how furious they were.
The Floyd family was easy to fool. When the time came, she would put on a show. She would cry miserably, apologize and even tell the Floyd family that her uterus had been removed. They would surely pity her, and then she would have her chance.
