In the hospital, Jacelyn lay on the bed and did not dare to move. In fact, she was not seriously injured. When Marcus saw her rush out, he immediately stopped the car. The car only slightly banged into her. Although it did hurt, it did not cause her too much harm.
Jacelyn was conscious and didn’t faint at all. She was only putting on a show by pretending to be unconscious.
At first, she thought that the driver was Bobby. But from the voice she heard, it wasn’t Bobby’s but someone unfamiliar. Jacelyn was anxious, but she could only continue pretending.
She only had scratches and no other injuries. As the doctor couldn’t find out what was wrong with her, she was sent to the ward.
As Jacelyn went through the series of checkup procedures like on pins and needles, she thought she could be more at ease in the ward.
She didn’t expect William to arrange for some people to stand watch over her.
According to instructions, the guards stayed around the clock in shifts. They never left the ward and continued watching her.
As Jacelyn laid on the bed, she became even more anxious.
If Evelyn hadn’t forced her, she wouldn’t have done such a thing.
But there was no turning back. She had to make sure that things would go smoothly.
Jacelyn wore a smartwatch on her wrist. She was hoping that the people standing watch over her would leave so she could have a chance to call Evelyn. But none of the guards left.
Jacelyn lay stiffly on the bed, waiting for time to pass. After an unknown time, she couldn’t bear it anymore and fell asleep.
In the middle of the night, Jacelyn woke up. She didn’t wake up naturally, but was woken up by her bodily functions.
People who were in a come wouldn’t have these sensations. But since she was only pretending, she felt uncomfortable holding it in.
Of course, Jacelyn would not relieve herself on the bed. So she could only open her eyes.
The moment she opened her eyes, she saw the person guarding her.
“Are you awake?” The guard asked when he saw Jacelyn open her eyes.
“Where… where am I?” Jacelyn pretended to be weak.
“You were in a car accident. You’re in the hospital,” the guard replied. “Are you feeling unwell? Do you want me to call for a doctor?”
As the guard was pretty courteous, and Jacelyn couldn’t hold it in anymore, she whispered, “I want… want to go to the washroom!”
“I’ll help you!”
The other guards all woke up and helped Jacelyn into the washroom.
As Jacelyn sat on the toilet, she secretly used her smartwatch to text Evelyn. “Ms. Gurney, I didn’t meet Bobby. Now there are people standing watch over me. It’s pretty inconvenient for me to do anything. What should I do now?”
Evelyn heard the sound of a text notification as she was half asleep. She immediately checked the message and replied after seeing Jacelyn’s text. “Since things have progressed this way, we have no other choice. Continue to wait at the hospital until you see Bobby.”
“What if Bobby doesn’t show up? I heard the guards say that William had to send his car for repairs because of the accident. They said that the car is pretty expensive and the repair fees are not cheap either. I’ve heard from them that I would be fully responsible for it. I’m feeling pretty worried and lost right now.”
“What’s there to be afraid of? According to our plan, you only ran into their car because you were chased by people. They should find fault with the people who were chasing you. Besides, William is rich. He wouldn’t mind you not paying. You don’t have to worry about taking responsibility.”
“But I’m worried that I can’t meet with Bobby since he didn’t show up till now.”
“When the time comes, you should request to meet with William. Since Bobby follows William like a shadow, he will surely show up sometime. Things will be different when he sees you. Besides, I suspect that William has recognized you. If not, why would he follow you to the hospital and even arrange for people to take care of you? Rest assured and wait. Who knows? Bobby might come to the hospital and visit you tomorrow.”
Hearing Evelyn’s words, Jacelyn felt a little relieved. The person guarding her at the door asked her, “How are you? Are you done? If you’re done, we can go in and help you out.”
Jacelyn immediately ended her contact with Evelyn and was helped to the bed by the person looking after her.
As morning came, the guards called for the on-call doctor to check on Jacelyn. When the doctor asked Jacelyn if she was unwell, she only said her head hurt and her body was in pain.
As the doctor couldn’t find anything wrong with the checkups yesterday, he could only leave after ordering for a brain CT to be done later on.
One of the people taking care of Jacelyn called Marcus to report that Jacelyn had woken up.
Marcus didn’t take it as a big deal. He only instructed the guard to call the police over to question her.
An hour later, the police arrived. After asking Jacelyn about her condition, the police went straight into the interrogation. “Do you have any family? You should inform them about your car accident.”
“I’m an adult and has been working away from home. My family is old and sick. I’m worried they won’t be able to handle this if I inform them.” Jacelyn gave an excuse as she surely wouldn’t want to inform her family.
The policeman did not insist. “Well, since that’s the case, let’s make it clear to you. Do you know that you are the one to blame for the accident yesterday?”
Jacelyn shook her head. “I don’t. I didn’t expect such a thing to happen.”
“You rushed onto the roads because you were chased. I want to know who was chasing you and why they were chasing you.”
“Well…” Jacelyn stammered.
The policeman emphasized, “You’re responsible for hitting someone’s car, and the repair fees are pretty expensive. If you don’t want to take responsibility for it, you have to look for the people chasing you. Understood?”
“I don’t know who they are. I was just… looking for a job here, and then they said they would introduce me to some work. Who knew that they brought me into an alley. I realized something was wrong and ran away. They chased after me, and then this happened.”
Jacelyn began to cry as she spoke. As the police saw her beautiful face covered in tears, he pitied her. “If you don’t know who they are, this will get pretty troublesome.”
Jacelyn continued crying and didn’t reply. The police pitied her and didn’t continue interrogating her. He called Marcus to ask about this instead. “Assistant Field, what should we do about this?”
Marcus was indifferent about it. “I’ve talked to Mr. Howard. He said that since she is so pitiful, we won’t hold her accountable for this. We will pay for her medical fees, and she can’t leave after she recovers. We will also pay for our repair fees. As for the people who chased after her, we will still need you to investigate. We will hold them responsible after we find them.”
“That’s great. Mr. Howard is really a good man!” The policeman hung up Marcus’s call and told Jacelyn about the situation. When Jacelyn heard that William wouldn’t hold her accountable and would pay for her medical fees, she was dumbfounded.
If William were to put this incident behind him there then, that would mean that he wouldn’t show up at the hospital anymore. If William were to take his hands off this matter, Bobby wouldn’t find out about this as well. How was she going to follow through with Evelyn’s plan after that?
